Assassin's Creed stalks Kristen Bell

Veronica Mars star lending voice, likeness to Assassin's Creed video game.

Veronica Mars fans are a dedicated bunch, and the primary object of their affection is the fetching Kristen Bell, the 27-year-old actress who plays the titular detective.

With the show coming to a shocking demise this past June after three seasons on the air, Bell fans have had to get their fix elsewhere. Lucky for them, the very-in-demand actress has had no problems getting other jobs.

The latest gig for the versatile film, television, and stage actress brings the blonde to new territory--video games. Bell will be featured in the upcoming Assassin's Creed from game giant Ubisoft, lending both her likeness (see picture, above right) and her voice to the title.

"I was a big video gamer growing up, so working on Assassin's Creed is my chance to be a part of video game history," Bell said in a statement. "It's something completely different than what I've done before, so it's cool I get to branch out and try another entertainment medium."

Ubisoft has not yet disclosed details on Bell's character, or whether or not she will be playable. The game publisher will only say she plays a lead character who is integral to the game's storyline.

Bell currently plays the electric Elle on NBC's superpowered drama Heroes, where she is signed on for a multi-episode arc. She's also the narrator for the CW's Gossip Girl, played a teenage con artist in the western Deadwood, and will be featured in the upcoming geek-love movie Fanboys.

Assassin's Creed is set in 1191 A.D. during the Crusades, and follows the stealthy and deadly exploits of Altair. As a member of an underground society that rubs out bad guys, Altair nimbly navigates environments before embedding daggers into the jugulars of his targets.

The game is scheduled to be released November 13 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For more information on Assassin's Creed, check out GameSpot's detailed coverage.

Well this turned out ok, didn't it? Her career has continued to rise and now she's in the second one, too.

Turns out video games aren't career suicide, are they?

Doesn't sound too good for Bell, doing videogames. They are still considered a lower form of entertainment; she herself admits she was videogamer "growing up" so she no longer is one? They're too mcuh for kids then, eh?
As for heroism, it is simply an uncommon act that involves narrow survival from the clutches of an enemy or a catastrophe. So assassins are heroic and so are ninjas. They're both sleazy, disgusting and objectionable figures, but heroic nonetheless.

uh. actually, hashashins were terrorists that assassinated christians and the muslims, called saracens at the time. hashashins were hashish smokers, though there is no evidence whether they did or not, it was said that only someone doing drugs would do anyting as stupid as to assassinate military leaders. Hashashins are terrorists, not heroes. In reality, they did not have acrobatic skills. They were regulay teenagers that always dwelled in their mountain fortresses scattered in the area. They would pretend to be someone's baker or something, then after a few months, they pull out a knife and stab them. When Genghis Khan stormed the Middle East, he heard of the assassins and made it top priority to burn their fortresses to the ground. While the game is very appealing, it is good to keep in mind that hashashins are nothing to look up to. They are considered the first terrorists in history and live up to that title. Im not criticizing this game, for im sure i might get it, but i learned the hard way not to go to school and say something about hashashins being heroic figures.

oh & JB2B they smoked hashish after they performed assainations to make them forget and believe it was all an illusion.. i got that from Ghost in the Shell, i've never even seen the DaVinchi Code, not my kinda movie lol

I've got no problem with actors lending their voices to characters in-game but to be moddled after them is a bit much, kinda detracts from the atmosphere abit, in my opinion. &.. to make things worse she kinda looks like a 14 year-old in the picture above, far less atractive than she does in real-life, but what-ever this games gonna be great regardless of what actor plays a role in it.

I already have placed an order for this game. And every time I see new info on Gamespot it just gets better. I'm ready to be an Hashshashin. That's where the English word assasin comes from. Fun detail is that those Hashshashin's are called that way because in history they used to smoke hashish. Hashshashin mean's something like Hashish user. But I doubt that will be in the game.

Ohh her Character Elle in Heroes is going to be fun to watch. She played a bad girl (Vixen) real good when her character premeired. I also love her in Pulse. if anyone hasn't seen that movie it was one of the best J-Horror to American translation film out. She will be a great addition to a already great game.

I hereby resend my earlier statement. I was skeptical because I hadn't seen how far along the game was in development. They've shown some gameplay video on AOTS and DID mention that it was nearing the end of its development cycle.

My only question then is given the timing of Gamepsot delivering this news how old is it really. Can anyone tell me when they first saw this online prior to Gamespot's posting of it? I suspect it was online prior.

GeigerdolylWodd - you seriously need to chill. Your response is perhaps the worst misinterpretation of any story I have seen on GS. She WILL be in the game because, as of now, it has yet to be released. How you arrived at that particular interpretation, I have no idea. Probably because you are trying to show us how much you learned in logic class (which obviously isn't very much), by picking apart each and every word. Problem is, it's annoying. And stupid.

Kristen Bell has been listed in this game as a character in wikipedia for some months now. I highly doubt that they would push it back as this is not new information.

  • xTheExploited

    Posted Nov 7, 2007 9:21 am PT

@GeigerdolylWodd, Don't worry they're not going to push it back, they are just releasing this information close to the release date. They are not all of a sudden going to comepletely change the story.

Do you **** have to whine about everything? Just buy the damn game and be happy. If it's a good game, Kristen Bell will not change that. I'm so sick of fan boys constantly **** about every bit of minutiae that appears on Game spot. This is just more advertisement for the game. Nothing more, nothing less. Move along.

Ubisoft never said they were going to do that. If you read some one of the interviews, a representative only said they were unable to directly copy the original game to the 360 and pc version. Those two versions will have some things edited out, but also they'll get exclusive things to replace them. Although the rep was a bit vague, you can tell the PS3 get the original.

  • GKBeetle

They didn't get her eyes or nose right in the digitized version. Seems like this should be easy with the 360 and PS3's power. Sucks because her eyes are her best feature IMO.

Grimbee, remember this is only the beginning of what we know as nextgen. Remember how bad ps2 graphics were with the first games? Think about how amazing 360 and ps3 graphics will become.

  • GrimBee

    Posted Nov 7, 2007 2:32 am PT

You know - Going back 2 years, I always thought that the 360 and the ps3 would have movie-like graphics.
The graphics are good, don't get me wrong. But I was under the impression - especially from sony's commotion and conferences - that we would see pretty much real-life actors in games.

Its a shame that the next gen isn't as "next gen" as that. But this news would certainly be exciting next-next generation when you physically can see rendered actors in games!
I would love to play as bill murray in groundhog day lol

I could care less that she's "Veronica Mars". As long as she's doesn't detract from the gameplay at all, I'm fine with it, but damn.. that was an awful show. I'm glad it was cancelled.

It's a great recreation, except for the eyes. The eyes are the only giveaway for me. They just look... too close together.

Anyway, this is cool. I like seeing faces that a real person has, and not a fake face made simply for a fiction. You know, the whole, "this is how someone Might look."

I don't usually like it when developers incorporate celebs in their games, and this is a game that definately does not need stunt casting. But I have to give it to them. They actually did a pretty good job recreating her face. It really just looks like an airbrushed photo.
