BlackSite golden on Xbox 360, PC

Midway's modern-day sci-fi shooter to hit Microsoft-powered platforms November 12; PS3 version still slated for December.

Yesterday, Midway reported a mostly dismal third quarter, which saw the publisher posting a $33.5 million loss on $36.7 million of revenue. Partially at blame for the lackluster performance was the delay of several of its high-profile titles out of the July-to-September window, including John Woo's Stranglehold for the PlayStation 3 and BlackSite: Area 51. While Stranglehold underwent a series of miscues on its release date, it appears BlackSite: Area 51 required only one.

Today, Midway announced that development has wrapped on the Xbox 360 and PC versions of BlackSite, and the two versions will meet their anticipated release date of November 12 in North America. The PS3 version of the game remains slated for December, "in time for the holidays."

Announced in January, BlackSite: Area 51 revisits the titular conspiracy-theory-rife military complex in Nevada for more alien-slaughtering action. The game features highly destructible environments ā la Stranglehold, as well as squad-based gameplay and high-tech weaponry. In addition to playing the single-player campaign, gamers will be able to hop online for cooperative and competitive firefights.

BlackSite: Area 51 is rated T for Teen. A demo is currently available for the game on Xbox Live, with a second XBL sampler slated to release "soon" and a PS3 free trial penciled in for later this year.

    Along with nazis, zombies, ninjas and robots, Aliens are among the few remaining ethnic groups that won't sue if you make a game about shooting them in the face.

    No PC demo? No PC Co-op? Laaame.

    Midway's last Area51 game was decent fodder from the bargain bin, but I had higher hopes for this one.

    I'll wait for the reviews.

    i am very pissed that the co-op has been removed on this, i thought this game would be great to play with a friend in split screen. why are so many games not co-op compatible, the best co-op i've played recently is halo, gears of war and rainbow six vegas. might give army of two a rent in the new year. how awsome would co-op be on call of duty 4?!

    Another shooter about killing aliens.... soon to join the ranks of Gears of War, Resistance, Halo 3 , Crysis. Apparently if you want to make a AAA title you have to have E.t. and his friends get blasted...

    Midway is reaping the same benefits of PS3 development that Epic is. As this title is UE3 based, it hits two idiots with one stone. Epic is getting smacked back with just rewards for behaving like a bunch of raving Sony Fan Boys. If more devs have serious financial repercusions, maybe they will stop punishing the rest of the gaming public for Sony's ineptitude.

    The first demo was a "teaser." Perhaps this new one, whenever it comes out, will show us what the game really has in store.

    I really wasn't too impressed looking back, but as I've seen new footage this game could be a sleeper hit. Unfortunately, releasing this game in a month that's filled with AAA titles is a terrible mistake.

    Taking out co-op from this game at the last second (The Kane & Lynch mistake) took away it's main saving grace... next to highly destructible environments, you have really NOTHING. Regardless Midway, once again, you are the weakest link, goodbye.

    Come on man, are you serious.. The longer a game is out the bettter for both companies.. Delaying it, won't do any good to either company. Think about it man.. There's been too many companies delaying just the ps3, do you think it's coincidence? I htink not.

    Seems like another company is becoming greedy. I'm positive PS3 version is ready to go, the reason for delay is not the "bad port", it's the strategy for holiday season when PS3 console starts selling to make good profit.

    Quite sad, I'm still looking forward to the game if it's done right.

    PC and 360 partners in crime the MS duo owning the gaming right now . and they both can use same controller so when ur on ur pc u get a 360 feel to game . hmm they say the ps3 kan doo mutilpule task ,i wonder if u cod plug a 360 controller in play ps3 games with it hmmm .

    Wasn't this game supposed to release like a week or two before/after Halo 3? What the hell happened to that? Anyway. People will be too busy playing Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Orange Box, Uncharted, Ratchet, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Haze, Folklore, Metriod Prime 3, Galaxy, and all these other great AAA titles and will most likely be too busy for a mediocre FPS game. What a shame.

    The demo was decent, made me at least have interest in playing it. I'll probably rent or barrow it from a friend though, because I'm looking foward to HAZE on PS3. I may also get Mass Effect though that's not an FPS the more videos I see for it. More in line with KOTOR then FPS. I won't buy BlackSite: Area 51 though, Midway games have been disappointing to me lately.

    blacksite, yay, looking forward to a great FPS christmas with COD4, timeshift, gears of war PC and Crysis. i must say i wasnt too impressed with crysis tho. at least gears, timeshift and COD4 rock.

    This game looks around the level of Timeshift, which is pretty good, but nothing compared to the big guns like Halo 3.

    While I really enjoyed the demo, I fear this game might become lost amongst all the great FPSs that have come out this year (Bioshock, The Darkness, Halo 3, The Orange Box, etc, etc.!). I'll still keep it in mind, but my gaming money is already tied up this month with Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, and Mass Effect. I hope it does well regardless...

    I hope the cool guns from the first game are in here, like the plasma rifle-like gun, where it bounced off walls n the laser sight changed colour when you were aiming at someone around a corner

    I'll be sure NOT to buy this game and tell everyone NOT to buy it. No PS3 support for online lacking massive features because Midway doesn't know how to develop a game properly. I'll be skipping this junk crap for HAZE.

    This one sort of fell off the radar. I forgot all about it with all the big games that have been released lately. I was a little disappointed in Midways other big release(Stranglehold).This one looks a lot better, and also sports a advanced Unreal Engine. The demo was solid so lets hope the extra developement time does it justice.

    this game will be sick and ill def pick it up for ps3 when it ships out. area 51 was an amazing game, and the online was intense.

    Looks like the same old same old to me. After the recent spate of great fps games, I'm frankly not that excited. Looks like Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect to see me out this year.

    Killzone117, Difference is that the PS3 version is delayed at least a month, and judging from the Stranglehold snaffu, even longer, with a gimped online mode. My best bet is that the PS3 version sucks even more balls than the 360 version and I hope the sales reflect that. PS3 owners say no to gimped and excessively delayed ports.

    The graphics for the demo of the 360 version looked pretty close to GeOW, Unreal Engine. I hope the game lives up to its graphics for the win.
