Drake's Fortune is gold

Naughty Dog's Christian Gyrling says Uncharted is "100 percent done"; reaffirms November 20 US release for PS3.

Earlier this month, Naughty Dog copresident Evan Wells posted to Sony's PlayStation Blog with news that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune had entered beta testing. Describing Uncharted's progress, the developer executive said, "most everything is in the game, and we are just chasing down the last bugs and making a few minor balancing tweaks here and there."

Today, Naughty Dog again sidestepped the traditional press-release route to reveal that it had taken one more step in meeting Uncharted's November 20 US release date for the PlayStation 3. After a lengthy post extolling the virtues of Uncharted's artificial intelligence, Naughty Dog animation and AI programmer Christian Gyrling revealed that the game had wrapped up development.

"We went 'gold' last week," said Gyrling in the blog's comment section. "Right now the game is in other words 100 percent done and is currently going through the approval process."

Having established its reputation with the Jak and Daxter as well as Crash Bandicoot platformers, Naughty Dog is barking up a (slightly) more realistic tree with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Taking cues from the classic Indiana Jones-style action adventures, the developer's next-generation debut sees an alleged heir to the famous Sir Francis Drake hunting for the legendary gold mine El Dorado. GameSpot's previous coverage has more on the PS3-exclusive title.

I'm in two minds about this .. the "showing off" of the gun play / melee system i didn't think looked good .. but Naughty dog do make some great games ... this has about a 30% chance of being great .. 40% change of being good 20% average and 10% bad

It's good to know that Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, and Drake's Fortune are all ready to go. Now I don't have to worry about the games being pushed back. If only they weren't all coming out at the same time, but that's business.

"I really like this site, but if they are not getting cash from Microsoft I dont know what it is. Ratchet and Clank TOD is a great game. the demo I played is one of the most polished games I have ever seen,I understand they have their own opinions but man this site is biased when it comes to the PS3,if Ratchet and Clank was a 360 game it would off got a 9+ plus ,is a shame to see dishonest journalism but thats the way it is I'm afraid, now lets see what score Uncharted gets. "

    -------------------------
That's what I said, but they deleted my review right away. Honestly if MS doesn't own stocks in gamespot, then the editors are probably receiving other benefits from MS. They are really biased. But who cares. It used to really bother me, but not anymore. Since Kasavin left, the quality went down a lot even in their 360 reviews. Not just the score... but the actual writing standard. Just play the games you like. Don't submit to this "masked" advertising nor to other's opinions as most people are already brainwashed. It's like IMDB. Some of the best movies in history have very low marks, because the average Joe is totally oblivious to anything that happens behind the explosions.

Who gives a crap what score a game gets. You people are only listening to other people opinions without even playing the game yourself. If a reviewer tells you to go jump off the buiding, would you? I bet you many of these people will. Now go jump off some buiding loser. or go out there and play the game for yourself, you might just like what you play. Jezz

    Posted Oct 24, 2007 2:18 pm PT

Well, what game's do you guys felt Really deserved a higher score? Resistance was a great game, and got a great score. Lair sucked and the score reflects it. Heavenly Sword was cool, but nothing special, as agrees the review, and my friend just got the new Ratchet and Clank game and says it's WAY too easy, and that he feels the olders ones are better in many ways... I don't know if that means 7.5, but I think the game's not what you would have wanted in a sequal.

There's still Uncharted: Drake's Fortune coming out, and I really think that will get some great reviews.

  • jocaju

    Posted Oct 24, 2007 2:16 pm PT

Gamespot was "the place" to check reviews from games, but after ratchet & clank 7.5 I don't know. Game pro rated 5.0 out 5.0, gametrailers 9.0 out 10 and many others sites with better ratings on this game. Probably Uncharted will get 7.5 here and every where else much higher reviews. We'll see.

what mrkame16 said is true. I think that who ever does the reviews for Ps3 in gamespot is a 360 fan. I mean, check other websites, or game informer, this site always gives the lowest score for ps3. Get a new guy for the reviews!!!

If it turns out as good as people say it is, this could be the beginning of a new series. I can see it now >>>Drakes Fortune, Drakes Revenge, Drake vs. Laura, haha. In all honesty, this game looks absolutely amazing. I get the feeling that its pretty original from the videos, other than the slight resemblence to Tomb Raider/ Syphon Filter. Im getting it for sure.

hey! gamespot is too critic! ive seen other ratchet reviews and most of them gives it a 9.3, so dont worry even if gamespot rates this games as a bad one it isnt the only game site.

I hope this platformer does not suk like ratchet and clank. What a major letdown. It seems sony just cant release a good game first party game that gets above an 8.9

    @pdias_92:
i stay away from pointing at that lately. instead i have a blog where i bash these guys as much as i can. and yeah your point is exactly what my problem is with GS right now. AC6 got an 8.5, its a refurbed AC5 from PS2 done for 360. But PS3 exclusive R&C got 7.5, while 19 other scores that i've checked have given it 9 or more. i am sorry GS, but when you are the only one bashing a game and are know fora tradition of bashing all PS3 exclusives, i gotta start worrying about Uncharted and your platform bias!
And this game looks AMAZING. i've watched gameplay with my own eyes, i watched all BTS movies and man this will be a huge game this year.

At the end of the day the reviews are personal opinions, each one their own. When you have a 7 or over the game is good, but it maybe not your thing. If you like the previous games your are bias if you dont same. Play it and judge but yourself.

  • pdias_92

    Posted Oct 24, 2007 12:56 pm PT

GS better give Uncharted a AAA score (8 to 9) or else there truly 360 fanboys.
And how did they give R&C:TofD a 7.5? GS employees are haters cause they just look little things that doesn't affect the whole game.

haynsey123: If gamespot gives it a 7.5 it is because it is just that an above average game. Drake looks decent, hopefully it will play better than it looks. Also with Assassins Creed out a week before it it might get lost in the hype.

  • haynsey123

360 Bias? I think not, the truth is many of our beloved PS3 games are subpar. I spent 599 on this baby, and have yet to play more than 3 games worth more than a rental. And a guy looking for El Dorado is NOT realistic. Neither was Indiana Jones, an archaeologist who can outrun a boulder ? I think not.

  • Emale

    Posted Oct 24, 2007 8:26 am PT

I personally take the good reviews of PS3 games with the bad ones and base my buying decisions on whatever truth I can glean from them. As for Gamespot all I can say is that they haven't steered me into any bad buys since I have been viewing their site and at 60 snacks a game that's a good thing. So I hope Naughty Dog comes through with a gem for the PS3 because I'm sure we all would rather be playing then posting.

I agree with "goinpsycoagain" I think that gamespot needs to be more objectie while doing reviews... IGN and Gametrailers give Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction a 9.4 and 9.0. So I think UNcharted will be reviewed in an objective way.
