Empire Earth III conquers factories

Third installment in Mad Doc's far-reaching RTS has gone gold and will be available for PCs on November 6.

Sierra Entertainment announced today that Empire Earth III has gone gold and will ship to retail for PCs on November 6. The publisher also noted that gamers who secure their copy of the civilization builder in advance will receive three special units available to preorderers only.

In an effort to improve user accessibility, Mad Doc is taking a significantly different approach with its latest epic-scale real-time strategy game. Whereas Empire Earth II provided RTS grognards with 15 different epochs and 14 different factions, Empire Earth simplifies the global-domination campaign to five historical periods and a trio of civilizations.

However, as Mad Doc creative director Jeff Brown notes in a recent interview with GameSpot, the developer doesn't plan on altering the scope or depth of the game. Each of the three factions--Western, Middle Eastern, and Far Eastern--will be entirely unique from one another, with different units and play styles for fueling conquest.

Empire Earth III is rated T for Teen and will retail for $49.99.

The original Empire Earth was truly amazing, Empire Earth II was a real let down, let's hope III will go back to it's roots.

The biggest danger with EE3 is that Mad Doc have "dumbed down" the game too much. Having only three factions and two resource types does seem to limit the playeability in skirmish mode. I think Age of Empires 3 has the balance of simplistic play about right. I think EE3 may have gone too far.

I've been gamespotting for a while now, but for the love of god, the puns are getting old. Do the editors really have that much time on their hands?

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, so I don't think I will buy this one.
