Princess Bride game conceivable

Cherished family adventure film set to see a downloadable interactive adaptation next spring.

Between E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial on the Atari 2600, Taxi Driver, and Street Fighter: The Movie, film-to-game adaptations don't always have fairy tale endings. However, The Hollywood Reporter has news of one adaptation for which a fairy tale ending should be entirely expected.

According to the film industry trade mag, Worldwide Biggies is making a game based on Rob Reiner's much-beloved 1987 adventure film, The Princess Bride. Details on gameplay are nonexistent, but Worldwide Biggies CEO Albie Hecht told the trade group the game would appeal to the casual audience and would be download-only upon its release. The production company is not entirely unfamiliar with the world of games, as it runs a fantasy celebrity newsmakers league and produced Spike TV's Video Game Awards.

True Love and High Adventure--The Official Princess Bride Game is set for release next spring, with a teaser trailer for it appearing on the 20th anniversary DVD for The Princess Bride, set for release November 13.

WeWerePirates you are aware that there is no one named Morgenstern it's all Goldman's work, he told it to his children and made it sound like an abridged text...
i love the book but really don't see how it can be a game? an adventure game? it will probably destroy some of the fun...

I hope they go back to Morgenstern's text. Some of the stuff Goldman abridged out could work very well in a game!

This better be an mmorpg. Except only 7 ppl can play at once. Not so massive now, are ya? Let's see, buttercup, fezzik, inigo, westley, humperdink, vizzini, and the six-fingered man. Or maybe a low-budget super smash bros?

Finally This game was announced right after the the movie back in 1987. It was supposed to be released on Nov 1, 1987. I've been camped out at best buy waiting for this game to come out. Yippee! the time has almost come for this game to be released. LOL!

INCONCEIVABLE!!! (I love the spin on this news title "conceivable".. )

I always thought that developers should take out old movie liscences and make games out of them - alot of games back in the old days never did the movies justice, at all. With todays technology - games could recreate buzz for an old movie - increase dvd sales of that movie, and also probably make a mention of the actors in them which aren't getting much attention right now.

Princess Bride is a great film, not the best film - can't imagine how a game would be. Perhaps a "rolling down the hill race" or "avoid the poison drink" minigames

I would love for developers to re-visit older movie liscences and create awesome games out of them.

With the sword fights and going toe to toe with Andre the Giant, I'm sure a silly yet fun adaptation of one of my all time favorite movies is quite conceivable indeed! I would also be a nice touch to have the orginal cast members (that are still alive) do the voice work for the characters they once played.

The movie was good(and I sure the book is good too), but I don't think it will do well as a video game. But who knows.

The movie and the book were great. I just don't see this happening as a video game though. If anything, I feel it will ruin it for people who have yet to see the movie. MAYBE (and that's a big maybe) it would work as an adventure game of old, but I doubt that this will turn out well. Hopefully we'll get a nice surprise.

Wow...so studios are so uncreative nowadays that they have to dive back 20 years into the past to find a movie to bastardize? What is happening to this industry? I know many people, with degrees and a head full of great concepts, who cannot find a job in the industry. Instead, we are forced to play lame re-hashings of FPS's and sports games. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of movie games. I guess until the consumers wake up and realize that just because a movie is good DOES NOT mean that the game will be, it will never stop anytime soon.

ok, this will either be horrible, and i'll be ready to kill the people responsible for the game, or it'll be awesome.

if it's the former, the developers will get thousands of letters, faxes, and e-mails saying "my name is Inego Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."

    DEAR GOD, NO!!!!!!

Why, sweet Jesus, must they take what is easily the best film of the past 30 years and turn into what will sure be a crappy casual game? Why must you allow them to unnecessarily butcher a license? And anyway, what could they possibly do with the license that will be a downloadable game appealing to casual gamers aside from a "Prince of Persia" clone with strung-together characters and plot elements lain on top?

The very best- and probably sole good- thing to come out of this will undoubtedly be the headline for this article. Props to Brendan Sinclair or whoever happened to come up with it.

In short... please, please, please do not make ths game, Worldwide Biggies. I will gladly pay you to not soil such a beautiful film.
