$169 Rock Band on November 23

Harmonix rep confirms Amazon.com price and date for upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 rhythm game bundles; PS2 edition to follow December 10 for $159.99.

Shortly after Rock Band was first announced for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, retailers posted product pages for the game's various instruments and an all-in-one bundle. However, Harmonix and MTV Games remained stubbornly mum on the subject of pricing and package options for the music game.

That changed today when a Harmonix rep confirmed for GameSpot that Amazon.com's latest changes to the game's price and release date are accurate. The online retailer is currently listing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 bundles of the game for $169.99, with a November 23 release date.

In addition to that news, the representative also confirmed the PlayStation 2 version's price and release date. Last-generation gamers will have to wait a little longer to shred, but the price of admission won't be quite so steep, because the PS2 bundle will sell for $159.99 when it arrives December 10. The game and instruments will also be available separately.

Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 bundles will include the game, a wired drum kit, and a microphone. The 360 bundle will also come with a wired Fender Stratocaster guitar controller and USB hub, whereas the PS3 bundle will come with a wireless version of the Stratocaster controller and no USB hub. The PS3 edition's instruments can also be used with the PS2 edition of the game.

In May, results that were leaked from a focus group revealed that MTV Games was asking potential customers about three price points: $150, $175, and $200. Shortly thereafter, GameStop began listing the entire bundle for $199, which indicated that Harmonix, MTV Games, and distributor Electronic Arts had opted for the highest price point possible.

whats the england price of rock band any one know???

Some of you are the oh so typical american. Think about it, $200 is still worth it for all the stuff, you guys just don't see the value. See, people typically buy stuff when the value bar is higher than the price bar, and some of you people just see the pieces in Rock Band as pebbles and bits. Open your eyes.

So for $200 you get 1 guitar, 1 mic, and the drums? Or do you get 2 guitars? Even if you only get one guitar, that's still pretty good... I thought it was gonna be like $250. EDIT: Oh, it says $170, even better.

Gamestop HAS lowered the price. They can't have a higher price than-- well that's a lie. They can do that but it would be really stupid and they would lose business. They've already lowered the price. It's already reflected on the Gamestop website. And no, the bundle only comes with 1 guitar.

Right on, see thats the right attitude, its a game. Games are supposed to be fun. This one particular is slated to become one of the greatest multiplayer experiences ever.

As someone who has played guitar since 10 years old, I honestly love these games. If you know where to go, and know where to look you could get a decent guitar for $200. Especially if you are a beginner I wouldn't suggest playing a $500 Shecter or Jackson. When you are really into guitar like I am, you start to make your own monstrous creations of sound. Bottom Line: These games are great fun, for musicians and music lovers alike. If you don't like the game, don't bash the people who do. If you still can't deal with it, then cry me a river, build yourself a bridge and get the f$#K over it. BigWorld Out

You can find out the current song list at www.rockband.com and I really do wish that the 360 would get a choice to have wireless equipment. I'm one of those people that just can't stand wires running all over the place but you know what? If that's all that's available then que sera sera. They're giving us a big price break on the bundle. So much cheaper than buying the equipment seperately. And seriously, it's not that much money. Sure it's just a video game but if you aren't willing to pay that much then why are you even looking at this game. You know what it's all about and common sense should tell you that it's not going to be $90+/- like Guitar Hero.

I think these music sim games are fun for a bit but kind of a ridiculous fad. It's like if MTV made videogames, this is the kind of stuff they would put out.

airg6: Are you serious. You guys actually think you can get a decent guitar for 150 to 200$. Try 500 to 1000$ for a decent guitar or even more.

You don't need to pay 500 to 1000 bucks for a DECENT guitar. Decent is like 250 equiped with ampli and all that stuff. 500 to 1000 is good to real good guitar. 2000 is omg great guitar. 3 500 000 is like WOW Clapton played on it.

Anyone agree that the 360 not getting a wireless conroller & the PS3 will is just CRAP. It's the SAME PRICE for different things. I would understand if Microsoft didn't allow them the rights to have any wireless equipment, but a wireless 360 will come out. I DON"T GET IT.....anybody?

To all those "play the real thing" whiners out there:

I own seven guitars, two bass guitars, and a drum set. I still love these types of games. Why buy Madden, just join the NFL. Why buy Call of Duty, just fight in a real war. Why buy Grand Theft Auto, just go out and steal people's cars and kill them and such. Oh, wait, wait, I almost forget... I, like the vast majority of the people that visit this site, enjoy playing... (pauses for effect)... VIDEO GAMES! Wow, what a revalation!

It's pretty simple guys. Some people will want to buy it, (in which case, they will) and some people won't, regardless of price, as is true with everything. I personally like the idea of a Guitar Hero-esque game with drumming, which is really the only exciting thing, to me, about this game. But Id like to try it out before I drop $170 for it.

    Haha... PSP?...or Rock Band?

nitsud_19: Nobody wants to hear negative opinions? O RLY?! What makes you think that the positive is the "correct" opinion?

Its nice to see another musician around, and I would agree that mindless "DIS SUX HALOOOOO" posts are worthless, but don't try to tell me or anyone else on here what they can or can not say. If people have a true gripe with the software, this is the place to discuss it.

Telling us that various opinions aren't welcome is not only insulting to us but incredibly egotistical of you. Chill out.

These games are great, being a musician myself, i find these games to bevery addictive and enertaining. Its a nice break from the real thing when needed, and also this game may influence the millions who buy and play it to pick up the instrument they enjoy the most and learn it. If you don' t enjoy these games or have a reason to bash them keep it to yourself, cause no one wants to hear it. Long Live Music!

I don't understand what the big deal is. Rhythm games are popular for there for the competitive aspect (training for and socializing), but that's really the extent of where these games go. In other words, Guitar Hero and Rock Band is another form of air guitaring, it's not the real thing.

  • Dreski83

    Posted Oct 1, 2007 8:39 am GMT

with a price like that its official... this game will sell like the Wii did... tons of buyers, maybe not enough actual product

  • Muzykmann

    Posted Oct 1, 2007 8:31 am GMT

You know, for that kinda money, you could go out and buy yourself a real starter guitar. Electric or Acoustic. And with the amount of time you spend playing these games, you could learn to play it.

I'm actually a fan of these rhythm games, but I'm also a musician. Just putting things into perspective...

All the whining aside, the fact is that plenty of people who love this kind of game (which I must admit I do NOT) will pay for it. Face it, you're getting something for the money, and you can play with friends on multiple devices. If this isn't you cup of tea you'll pass, but if it is, why not? Personally I'd rather play my trumpet or a harmonica or the like... but of rythem games are your thing this strikes me as the next best thing to owning an arcade installation.
