Ratchet and Clank delayed, demoed

Insomniac's popular platformer pushed a week to October 30; PSN sampler coming October 11.

Earlier this week, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominated Insomniac's widely admired lombax and robot duo in two categories for their PlayStation 3 debut, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Though the winners will be announced on October 23, the heat-packing duo, should they win, won't be on hand to accept the award as originally anticipated. Posting to Sony's PlayStation Blog, line producer Greg Phillips has revealed that, yes, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction has shipped to manufacturers, but it won't arrive on retail shelves until October 30.

The tools come out October 30.

Slightly offsetting the bitter side of today's news, Phillips offered an extra helping of sweet with word that a Ratchet and Clank demo should arrive on the PlayStation Network on October 11. An optimized version of the demo shown at this year's E3 Media & Business Summit, the free trial lets players tool around in the futuristic city of Metropolis. (A similar demo is now available to preorderers of the game at GameStop.)

As detailed in GameSpot's previous coverage, Ratchet and Clank's maiden voyage on the PlayStation 3 kicks off a new multi-installment story arc in the 3D platformer. True to past installments, the game features a healthy dose of over-the-top weaponry and tongue-in-cheek humor. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is available exclusively for the PS3 and will retail for $59.99. It has not yet been rated.

    It's just a week. Seven Days. You can live that long, can't you?

    For those wondering just WHY it was delayed, on the Full Moon Show (Insomniac Games' Podcast) Brian Allgier said that they had some tricky bugs in the game that they really wanted to fix before the game went Gold and they sent it out. The Demo was also pushed back presumably because Insomniac wanted both the Full game and the Demo to run on the same code.

    This actually gives Insomniac some extra time to think up what their next project is. Resistance 2? RaCF2? The return of Girl with Stick? In any case I'll be quite the happy one!

    ok seriously some of you drama starting losers need to get a life. its a whole week delay. its not "a delay? ps3? nooo.....". if it was a month, two or more, i see your point, but this is highly insignificant. ToD is still going to rock and remain as one of the greatest platformer franchises ever, so chill!

    Insomniac and Sony announced the game has gone gold, now why would they delay a game that is already finished? Well many people are expecting this to coincide with the new 40gb or so model. Spiderman 3 also comes out on October 30th and in a seperate rumour that was expected to be bundled with the ps3. So maybe there will be 2 bundles, one with Spidey3 and the other with R&C. They are just theories but I mean come on, why else would the delay a game that is already in the factories?

    if you reserve it at gamespot ($5 bucks) you get the first level demo on a disk. for those that don't want to wait. it looks incredible and so far looks like it's gonna be a must have.

    welcome to the wonderful world of ps3... Everything is delayed. Though I've never had an interest in this game at all, it looks like it could be fun. Let's hope it turns out well

    R&C Going Commando is one of my favorite games of all time (right behind RE4). I grabbed the demo at Gamestop and this game won't disappoint (as long as its not too short). The demo was sweet, the graphics are really great, but the level felt very small and linear, I know it was just a demo, but if they sacrifice game length and openness for graphics, i will officially be pissed. Otherwise, I'm happy to report that the gameplay is very much like Going Commando and not Up Your Arsenal (meaning more about platforming and no FPS controls)

    I agree, Uncharted is no where near ready. You can tell by how all the reporters write about it. They are excited by its potential but you can tell they don't want to mention the fact that it feels clumsy to play and buggy.

    I know it's only a week but has there been one PS3 game that hasn't been delayed? hell, has PS3 ever been mentioned without mentioning delay in the same sentence. It's almost guaranteed the uncharted won't come out until the middle of december...or next spring.

    This is only a good thing in my eyes. I can't wait to play the next R&C game and want Insomniac to have the necessary time to polish it. Waiting a few more weeks doesn't bother me.
