Unreal Tournament 3 goes Limited Edition

Midway announces a collector's version for the PC game, which includes art book and DVD extras.

It would seem that for many gamers, buying a standard game is no longer enough. The phenomenal sales of Halo 3 in recent days have included the Limited and Legendary Editions, both of which have reportedly sold out at retailers--while the Legendary Edition is currently selling for around £100 ($200) on eBay in the UK.

Today, Midway has announced that a PC collector's edition of Unreal Tournament 3 will be available in November in the US (where the recommended retail price will be $59.95), as well as in the UK, Europe, South Africa, Russia, and "most other territories." The collector's edition was available for preorder online in the UK, and priced at around £39.99 at the time of writing.

The limited-edition package will be encased in a "tin hard cover," and contain an art book featuring the art style of the vehicles, characters, weapons, and environments. It will also include extras on the DVD, including video tutorials about game modifications, and features about the history of Unreal Tournament and the making of Unreal Tournament 3.

    This is so great people. I love the fact that games such as Gears of War has two more missions versus the consoles, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is going to be a collectors edition, and this just is iceing on the cake. The consoles had a couple of years ago the Madden Collector's/Signature(Silver Package) for the consoles. Why can't we have this for the PC exclusively? It's about damn time and it should've been in the making for years now. Keep supporting the PC people. That's not to say I have anything against consoles. At best, there's just certain games that are still just for the PC in my opinion. Nice.....

    Good for them. Some people will buy it just because it costs more, others will really appreciate the building tools, others will ogle the art. And more money gets infused into the PC gaming industry, which means more high quality games (as well as the usual crap, of course). Let them do whatever they want to make a buck, as long as they create good games. Of course I will probably end up getting a used OEM version and enjoying it just fine. But I know that people like me aren't going to keep the market hot, so kudos to those that can, and are willing to, shell out the extra dough. You know it's going to be a great game. And it's a great time to be a PC gamer right now; too many good games coming out to keep up with.

    i kind of like limited editions, but why should i buy a game that im not sure it will run on my computer, so first ill get the demo and then ill decide what ill do next. if it doesnt run on my computer ill just wait and upgrade my computer and probably by then Epic would have released a bonus pack like the UT2004 ECE.

    The extras included in this set are essential and should be considered mandatory for any other developer releasing a limited edition of their game. Providing the players with tools to create their own content as well as tutorials (much like UT2K4) is what will keep this industry and Indie developers like myself afloat. The art book will also provide excellent reference for 3D artists and to those who value the achievements of Epic more so than just the final product. I'll definitely try to pick it up just so I can create content for the engine...could care less about the actual game!

    Whats wrong with having Limited edition ? if u are interested in those additional stuff then buy it,if not,well u have got yourself a Collector's Edition.

    Just buy the regular game,it's not as hyped as Halo 3 so the regular disc should be good enough.Should be an AMAZING game.

    In other news, the Pope is Catholic and water is wet. Typical vanilla Limited Edition, scoff at the Halo helmet, but at least it was unique. This metal case and bonus disc crap isn't what I'd call collectible.

    That's cool. It's a great franchise with many hardcore fans and this is great for them. I'm sure they will sell no problem and it seems that it's the way to go for the serious collector.

    Better than paying $130 on a Legendary Edition... Unreal's weapons/vehicles pwns Halo 3's anydays.

    Doesn't seem worth it, considering Bioshock included an extra's DVD, a trance music sampler, and a pewter figurine in thier CE. You can't forget they also released the art book and the offical sound track for Bioshock for free.

    Then again, teh modding tutorials sound extremely interesting to me.
