7-Eleven hits Halo 3 launch hitch

Delivery snafu causes shooter's debut to be delayed at many of the chain's locations; Slurpee vendor still interested in selling games.

7-Eleven may have been the most and least unusual participant in the flood of midnight retailer launches for Halo 3. Although the all-night convenience-store chain doesn't regularly carry console games, there are few--if any--retailers as accustomed to working the graveyard shift.

However, that nocturnal experience was all for naught at some 7-Eleven stores because they didn't actually have any copies of Halo 3 to sell. A representative with the company told GameSpot today that the company's distributor mistakenly sent out part of its allocation of games using second-day delivery instead of overnight express. Nevertheless, the rep did say that the "vast majority" of participating stores received their copies as planned. About half of the company's stores were involved in the Halo 3 promotion.

Despite the bump in the road, 7-Eleven is hoping that gamers won't be too turned off by the situation; the rep said the company is looking at a selection of other games to sell in its stores for 2008.

"We did some research early last year of our core customers, mostly male 18 to 24," the representative said, "and asked what they liked to do best with their leisure time. Without a doubt, the top three responses were movies, sports, and computer and video games."

The representative also noted that gamers having trouble finding a copy can call the store's customer-service hotline at 1-800-255-0711 to have someone check on which 7-Elevens have the game in stock and call back with the nearest locations.

Gotta love Sony fanboys. I'm sure if Sony was doing this for Killzone 2 you'd be saying it's great.

what did microsoft do here that was so bad? looks like 7eleven wants to start carrying games why would microsoft not let them?...fool..just because you hate microsoft doesn't mean that everything they do is bad. it just means that your willing to let your personal bias get in the way of an informed decision

For some reason, I couldn't imagine myself buying a game from a 7-Eleven. It just doesn't seem right.

Didn't know that 7-11 even sold games. Next time I go in one I will have a look around and see if I can find any.

I actually bought my copy of Halo 2 at 7-11 a few days after it came out. For some reason the store had it advertised at only $24.99 & you didn't have to purchase anything else. It was kind of awesome, I'm hoping they do the same for Halo 3, as I never will buy a game for full price.

well, it seems nice that 7/11 is taking part in , selling videogames. but imo i don't see myself buying a game at 7/11 , unless i need it in a hurry. but yea it's pretty cool that they are doing it though.

You know... if some ppl are going to commit armed robbery on people waiting in line for the PS3 outside of Best Buy, isn't this just leading lambs to the slaughter? Last night was basically "if you are going to knock off the gas station, why not pick up a copy of Halo3 (and everyone's money) while you're at it".

I went to my local 7-11 to try and order the halo, but unfortunately they only had the sign that said I could preorder, but they had no clue what I was talking about as far as actually purchasing the game. He did however offer me a slurpee in a Halo cup.

I politely declined and went home.

true. but no game is worthy of all this hype that microsoft created and that people have bought into.

I would prefer that 7-11 sell cheaper, bargain games. I would be more likely to pick up a game if it was $10 than $50+.

maaly81 wow, a game with your slurpee? Why dont they sale games at footlocker and places like that. I want to be able to go to at hospital and get a 360 game. Get it done microsoft!

lol That's good. After getting shot from some idiot in a Halo 3 line, having a nurse at a hospital handing you a copy would be nice.

OMFG!!! I thought they were just joking at System Wars about 7-11 selling copies. Now this is f'king crazy. Now all they got to do is sell Ninja Gaiden 2, Devil May Cry 4, and Metal Gear Solid 4 next year!!!!

  • Yojimbo8

Totally agree with CrushedGroove. 7-Elevens notorious for being held up. Selling video games will just add fuel to the fire. But, good luck to them...

It's kinda cool that you can buy a video game from a 7-11. To bad i live on the east coast.
