Lost gameplay details found

UK's Xbox World 360 magazine reveals details of engine, gameplay, and storyline.

While Lost continues to be a major television hit, very little of its video game incarnation has been revealed. The first trailer was shown at Comic-Con 2007, giving a glimpse of what gamers can expect from the gameplay.

UK magazine Xbox World 360 has now revealed further details about Lost: The Video Game, based on interviews with three of the game's development team. Lost is built using a version of the GRAW 2 engine, which has been modified to deal with the "organic" environments of the island. While primarily a third-person adventure game, there will be a first-person view to enable the player to search for clues.

As previously revealed in GameSpot's preview, gamers will play as a survivor of the crash of flight 815--but Xbox World 360 reports that the character for the game will not be taken directly from the TV show. You will play as Elliott and must explore the characters own past (using flashbacks) to overcome a severe case of amnesia, as well as finding your way off the island. Characters from the TV show are also likely to be found at different stages within the game, however.

According to the magazine, there will be no online multiplayer aspect to the game, but the developers are "definitely looking to provide downloadable content via Xbox Live."

It seems like a lot of games based on movies are usually rushed to coincide with the movie release, while all the hype is going on, and this hurts the game. Lost really hasn't followed that formula. The show has been around for a while. The game might be good.

AH i want to know more! What about multiplayer and co-op? the GRAW 2 engine makes it sound ok, but this game could be really great if they make it long and a bit like a RPG

I was disappointed with the middle and end of season 2, and season 3 started off crummy, but then it started getting good again, almost as good as first season was.

Wow. I'm so... not interesting. Don't like the show, won't like a game that probably wont even be as good as the show is to some people. Which means there will be zero reason for me to buy it. If it's anything like more licensed crap, it'll be just that, licensed crap. I'll pass.

I have high hopes for this game. It's being developed with writers from the show as well as ubisoft, with a modified GRAW2 engine. Those 3 things alone hold a hell of a lot of promise. Plus I read in gameinformer that you are going to be able to experience moments from the first 3 seasons from a different perspective (think nikki and paulo). I think it should appeal to fans of the silent hill series, minus the horror of course, for it looks like it will contain a lot of those gameplay elements. I also read that whenever you play your flashbacks you will encounter characters from the show, in true Dickens fashion.

I really am hoping it's good as I love the show. But games based on movies suck and games based on TV shows are even worse. I really have my fingers crossed that it's good.

Well, it's being developed by Ubisoft, they're pretty damn good most of the time, let's just hope this isn't just another cash-in.
Just as long as they have voice-overs from the real actors from the show. If they don't, I'm not really sure what they're trying to accomplish.

  • Batch86

    Posted Sep 20, 2007 9:35 am PT

What in the hell are they trying to accomplish here? It isn't like there is intense action in the show in the first place that would make a game spin-off all that exciting. And, you can't even play as any of the familiar characters. I say no thank you, I'll just watch the show.

Diablobasher - You are one hundred percent correct that LOST is the greatest thing EVER on television, EVER.

EDIT: and as long as they have voice acting done by Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly and the rest of the cast, then I will be SUPER happy.

  • mc99112

Lost is arguably the greatest thing ever to be on television. As for the game... i'll pass judgement later. This magazine however, is a total joke, it's such a fanboy magazine, it's articles are a complete joke.

I love LOST, one of my favorite TV shows. But I don't really have high hopes for this game...I just don't see how LOST translates into a good game. There might be hope but I doubt it.

  • CarlosY2Jericho

    Posted Sep 20, 2007 6:39 am PT

Well this is disappointing...Was hoping they would base it directly on the show, with the ability to play the main characters (Jack, Sawyer, Sayid and Locke mainly), and explore around the lost world.

    *sigh*

Elliot can be one of the survivors not shown in the show, I hope they at least get the lost world right from the show and make little to no contradictions with it.

  • Ravi_1900

    Posted Sep 20, 2007 6:21 am PT

Well as ubisoft is making it, and from the excellent GRAW2 engine (modified), there is still some hope left.

Lost is one of shows that you follow - Like a soap. Nothing never really gets cleaned up at the end of every episode (I like to call them Epidose, because its only a dose of the drama as a whole).

Lost never really explains much, and just when you think that those fences kill people - michail comes back from the dead...

The game will probably never uncover the depth that lost has offered. And the series never has cleared up the depth that the episodes have offered.
I would hope that the game will let you explore the island as and how you like, and you can witness the key events from seasons 1 - 3.

For example you can either spy on the others coming to snatch the other survivors, or you can watch the losties blow up the hatch. There are key events all over the island, and it would be AMAZING to be able to choose where to go and what to do in that timeline.

I would hate it if you had set missions, constantly having to eat food to stay alive and just creating an even more confusing world inside the already confusing world of lost.

I just hope you can witness the events from series 1 - 3 from a different angle. That would at least help clear up some loose ends that the series can't, and can also give you the oppertunity to explore more things that they did not.

If the character you play does not interact with the main scenes of the movie (it wouldnt make sense as the character would not of been there) then the game will basically suck, because I personally would like to be able to choose whether to stay and push the button in the hatch - or not worry about it and just explore the island avoiding traps and the others.

But I doubt that the game will offer any depth or insight into the island or the series and will probably just offer basic cut-scenes and then send you on bordered missions to do something less exciting.

    At least, I hope not.

The thing about games is that they can let you explore things in different ways, and the trouble with a set-route is that it becomes boring for gamers.
If I can't explore the hatch - then there is something wrong there.

Ouf of Heroes book? are you kidding me? The last 4-5 episodes were terrible, and was just slowly pacing towards the the "epic battle", which was absolutely nothing at all.

  • lowenergycycle

    Posted Sep 20, 2007 4:55 am PT

I 'lost' it (geddit?) with Lost after just a couple of episodes of season 3. There's only so many seasons of unanswered questions before you just get bored. They should take a leaf out of Heroes' book.

Anyway, no money-spinning Franchise Game is going to convince me otherwise.

  • GrimBee

    Posted Sep 20, 2007 4:51 am PT

Its during the events of lost - so you will probably not even know what the heck is going on in the game.

I really hope that the game is not riddled with stupid stealth-moments, slow-down (from that massive landscape) and some silly "you have to eat something every 60 seconds to stay alive" motifs.

I just wanna walk around the island, run away from stuff and maybe... you know... get close to Kate and...

Anyways. I hope the game is just damn good to play. If its riddled with the things i mentioned above, the game is ruined.
