Conan Crom-ing September 28 in the UK

[UPDATE] The famed barbarian's first next-gen outing is now set to loot and pillage Britain September 28, but the US date holds firm on October 23.

In the gaming world, titles often get delayed again and again, with disappointed fans counting the days until they can get their hands on their hotly anticipated favourites. So it's nice to see a game moving forward in the release schedule for once.

"Looks like I will see you in hell sooner than planned!"

Conan, the Nihilistic-developed action adventure featuring the brawny barbarian will now be released on September 28 in the UK. It is not to be confused with the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures developed by Funcom, which is due out for the PC and Xbox 360 next year.

Originally expected to debut in 2008, then brought forward to October, it would appear that unlike the MMORPG version, Conan is well ahead of schedule.

The game has a recommended UK retail price of £44.99 for the Xbox 360 version, and £49.99 for the PlayStation 3, with a BBFC rating of 18. In the US, both versions of the game will retail for $59.99 and be rated M for Mature. For more information, check out GameSpot's recent hands-on preview of Conan.

[UPDATE] This story originally reported that the new release date applied to both the US and UK releases of Conan. Though a THQ UK rep explicitly confirmed to GameSpot that the game was launching in both Europe and North America on September 28, a US THQ representative has since clarified that the American launch of the game remains scheduled for October 23. GameSpot regrets the error.

    I'm a little bit skeptical about the game looking through all the game footage. It seems too generic to stand its ground during the Halo 3 rush.

    Why would you release it a couple days after Halo. I am going to pick this up, but I believe it is not going to sell well. Unless the combat and gameplay is similar to God of War, which it doesn't look like. To me the combat seems to slow paced. Oh well, here is me hoping for the best.

    They should NEVER, EVER have Arnold do Conan's voice in any kind of media. It would be as big of an insult to the franchise as the movies were.

    I think they got Ron Pearlman to do the voice acting, mainly because he's also supplying the voice for Conan in the up-comming animated adaption of Robert Howard's Conan story "Red Nails" (an awesome read by the way).

    Man I hope the early release doesnt mean that it will be released unfinished, this game looks awesome, and theres nothing worse then a early release for a game thats not ready. I really feel that this game is not ready yet.

    I must admit that I'm not enthralled by the gameplay footage I've seen so far. Conan is a brutal, economic fighter and all this spinning around ten times and throwing people or flinging them in the air and cutting them in half really isn't him. That isn't to say that it looks like being a bad game, but I'm not sure it really 'feels' like Conan.

    I have to admit I'm a little nervous about this. I mean it's nice if they truly are ahead of schedule and can release sooner than expected but to go from 2008, to October to end of September makes me wonder if content they originally wanted to include was cut. I'm really looking forward to this one, but the reviews will be my deciding factor.

With all the games coming out all at once in the Fall season, we're really going to need our full set of multi-tasking skills to play all of these games!     I hope it turns out well. I WILL be buying it. I'll play it when I'm done with Halo. It looks intriguing, and I like Nihilistic. But, I'll be waiting for the scores. Hope the bump doesn't mean they don't have faith in the title..

    I've been a big Conan fan for a long time... hoping this one turns out good. I have some faith in THQ after playing Saints Row this past summer.

    man this game is really gonna have trouble not being overlooked this season (note to developers ya don't need to cram everything out 4th quarter summer would be great i don't go to school and have time out the @$$)

    very cool to see such a change in game release trends. moving forward instead of back or shadow releasing the game because it sucks so bad ( how about that Lair, fellas?), is just plain awesome.
    now i've been leaning to buy this, but i will definitely wait for mutiple rewviews before making a move to buy or rent!

    the title of this article is the funniest one i've ever seen on a gaming site bar none. 'crom-ing' is funny on so many levels especially if you've seen pumping iron where arnold talks about cumming profusely all the time. Good job clever guy, hopefully later tonight i'll be crom-ing all over my gf's butt and hear the lamentations of da women.

    Definitely looking forward to renting this game. Doesn't look like it will be a must buy, but the gameplay video looked like fun. Decapitating people never gets old.

    God of War, with Conan. And Ron Pearlman voicing Conan. That instantly gets my vote. I'll be grabbing this and Halo 3 at the end of the month then.

    Excellent news! I had great fun playing the game at he SD Comic-con and as a huge fan of Robert E. Howard this news makes me especially keen to see how the whole game turns out.
