Morello a villain in Guitar Hero III

Rage Against the Machine axe man tells Rolling Stone he will be a boss in the forthcoming rhythm game; preorder bundle revealed.

In addition to a heavy reliance on master recording tracks, Activision and RedOctane have signed on a number of big-name rockers to appear as bosses in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. One of the major announcements coming out of the GHIII camp during this year's E3 Media and Business Summit was that Guns N' Roses thrasher Slash would be doling out his special brand of rock for the rhythm game. Earlier this month, Poison frontman Bret Michaels was named as the second legend of rock to take the stage.

The third epic rocker to lend his signature twang in person to Guitar Hero III will reportedly be Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Morello reportedly confirmed his appearance as a boss character, saying, "Whenever I play Guitar Hero, my opponent always kicks my ass on my own riffs...Now that I'm actually in the game, I hope the digital me will win once in a while!" A RedOctane rep has since confirmed Morello's presence in the game, noting that "track(s) that involve Morello will be announced shortly."

Known for his funk-heavy riffs and synthetic guitar sounds, Morello jammed with politically minded rockers Rage Against the Machine from 1991 to 2000. He and the rest of Rage's instrumentation joined with former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell to form supergroup Audioslave from 2001 to 2007. In 2003, Morello was named the 26th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone.

As for official news on Guitar Hero III, RedOctane has updated its site with a new preorder bundle for the upcoming game. The Guitar Hero III Elite Bundle will include the game, a wireless Les Paul guitar controller, a custom faceplate, a Guitar Hero III T-shirt, a 2-inch-wide guitar strap, a keychain, and a sticker pack. The bundle is currently listed for the $109.99 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and $99.99 on the Nintendo Wii.

Rated T for Teen, Guitar Hero III: Rock the Legends is slated for release this October. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will retail for $59.99, or $99.99 with a packed-in guitar. On the Wii and PlayStation 2, GHIII will cost $89.99 bundled with a guitar.

the three guitarists that i think should be in the game are tonni iomi, kirk hammet, and jimmi hendrix. they are real legends of rock.

Awesome! I just hope they use Rage Against The Machine, instead of the highly overrated Audioslave. I remember how boring Audioslave was in the original GH.

WOW!!! I'm sold! Tom Morello is #26? Try top 5 of all time.

Wow, that is pretty damn sweet! RATM happens to be one of my favorite bands, so I'm going crazy over this. Now I just wish that they would get System of a Down, Mudvayne and Slipknot already (my other favorite bands). That'd be like a dream come true.

And for those of you who are always whining about who they choose to be in the game, get over yourselves. Not everyone can agree on who a Legend of Rock is. For every guitarist anyone names, someone else would say it's a bad choice and their's is better. I'm just thankful that the series is getting recognized enough to bring in the music and artists that we're getting. And if GHIII is a hit, who knows how many artists will want to jump on for GHIV?

that makes me happy that they are putting the guitarist from Rage Against the Machine. He is awesome and hopefully this will inspire them to put a Rage against the Machine song *Wake Up* *crosses fingers*
now my final hope is that they add buckethead as a boss and put one of his songs in... but thats not too likely.

That sounds potentially really, really cool. Or maybe really, really suck. Not sure.

they should have the Zack Wylde standing on an amp during the tom morello part because he did that for no reason at one of their concerts. It would be something cool for the RATM fans.

I could care less which songs, which bands, and who are in the game.

I just want to be able to compete against other people online. I could be rocking out to country music as long as I got to destroy someone online while doing it.

I don't agree that Bret Michaels Sucks since he is a good Singer, and he isn't a boss he just sings on some songs. But I do agree that C.C. Deville does kick Major Ass.

    where is buckethead ?

haha, oh man could you imagine trying to beat him on expert? kids would have seizures with all the blinking lights. seriously though he would make for a great character in a game, they could have buckethead land and all... throw in claypool and bootsy for the bass sections.

awesome! Morello's Ratm stuff was awesome. There are a ton of guitar heroes, but, if anyone is a guitar villian it's him. One of the top 5 most important guitarists of all time Know your enemy has the greatest guitar solo ever...traditional guitars and crazy sounds. hopefully rage gets back together for another album and full tour

Tom Morello is a beast!! In my oppinion like the 2nd or 3rd best guitarist of all time. Yea others can play a guitar on fire, or hit quick notes like crazy, but thats just nothin orginal or fun to listin to. Morellos style is HIS style. original and amazing. All the sounds in RATM or Audioslave you hear are him. Sometimes i find myself in aw tryin to think how the hell he does that. And yea he was named the 26th best guitarist of all time by RS but did you look at the list?? So many people where ahead of him that shouldnt be. For example... Kirk Cobane (Nirvana) was like #5 or 6. What the @#@#!! how the hell is he even on the list?? yea Nirvana was a legend but no Kirk (as a guitarist) maybe a song writer but not a guitarist. He just strums. and I can play like all there songs and ive been playin a guitar for like 3 months. That list is no where near legit. They really need to rethink it.

Sweet. Definately worth buying now. Just get the standalone version and wait for the better Rock Band guitar (love the duplicate set of frets and the lower part of the neck)

I may get this now, Tom Morello is without a doubt todays greatest guitarist, the sounds he created for Rage are in par with the sounds The Beatles made with Revolver and Sgt. Pepper (in terms of doing something that was never done before, who plays with a wrench?). While not as revoltuionary as The Beatles of course, every sound in Rage was created using a guitar, no computer effects or anything, and he modeled his playing after Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.

NICE. This guy can really jam on the guitar. I was hoping for something more old school, but he's a great choice.

Now here's to hoping for some RATM or Audioslave in the game.

they better not censor anymore songs in GH, RATM's Killing in the Name doesnt sound the same without "**** YOU I wONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!!!"

    Posted Sep 4, 2007 9:45 pm GMT

Well, the guitarist from RAGE wouldn't be my first second theird or even fourth choice...but it could be worse..I guess. Its kind of a let down after rumors of Angus Young or Carlos Santana. And the price is completly too high on the PS2,seriously W(Why)TF is it $90? Oh well,at least it will be cheaper if I just get it w/o the guitar,if they even sell it w/o the guitar(they didn't mention a price in this article).I still feel like we're being taken advantage of because they know we'd pay whatever they made it cost if we didn't have a controller/if the controller we do have breaks(my wammy bar and my strap holders broke).
