Worms deploy on A Space Oddity
Team 17's annelids with attitude take their turn-based strategy warfare intergalactic next spring on the Wii.
Since debuting in 1994, Team 17's homicidal annelidan warriors have made a mess of this planet, decimating one another's invertebrate bodies with over-the-top weapons and their spirits with high-pitched, nonsensical taunts. Most recently, Team 17 catapulted its homicidal dirt diggers onto the next generation of consoles with Worms for the Xbox 360. For its follow-up console performance, Team 17 will be taking the Worms series in a new direction with Nintendo's "new-gen" technology.
THQ announced today that Worms: A Space Oddity will arrive for the Nintendo Wii in spring 2008. Apparently hitching a ride on the rockets they're so keen on launching, the worms will wage their feud on an intergalactic scale across six distinct planets, each of which offers different environments and situations.
Further diverging from past installments, Worms: A Space Oddity will eschew its traditional art style for a sci-fi-inspired look. The game will also incorporate the Wii's motion-based controls into the traditional turn-based strategy gameplay, and feature online multiplayer for up to four players.
Worms: A Space Oddity has not yet been priced or rated.

I'd like to see Worms move away from the turn-based approach and go for something more like Conkers.

I agree the 2D worms made for a much better style of gameplay. Worms 3D was nothing more than a who can shoot who off the island the quickest. Sure 2D worms has plenty of that, but at least a good player could hide if they wanted.

I thought the 3D ones were funnier and still carried the deceptively complex mechanics, but the 2D ones are faster and more accessible. But regardless, I'll be satisfied... because aiming and punching with the wiimote will be SWEET either way.

If I rebember correctly, Team17 said they had no intentions of doing another 3D Worms. I hope they were honest, as I want this one to be in 2D.

Worms 3d was ok, but something was just ... not right about it that really made it feel very different than normal worms games... so i don't mind if it's 3d, just as long as they spruce it up a lot more, and keep it interesting.

Team17 provides HORRIBLE support. They released a game called worms forts which advertised online play...which DIDNT WORK, for ANYONE. Not even on lan. They PROMISED they would patch it, 12 months later, it hadnt even happened. As far as I know they just said SCREW it, and screw the customer.

The system could use more online games. Seriously, I remember them claiming their online would be great. They be building something great or all this waiting is annoying.

I too an hoping for it to be 2D and i wonder if gravity of these planets will differ and affect how the worms move.

If this was a cheap download on the wii shopping channel I would probably get it. But I won't want it as a full price retail game because I already have worms for PC, PS1, and XBOX 360. And the 2D versions are the only good versions btw.

nickeythenewt21:
I agree - 2001: A Space Odyssey was garbage. You probably liked Magnolia as well, right?

Actually, I like movies that depend more on the acting and plot more then the special effects and laughs. Besides, you should watch more then 30 minutes. Try doing that next time.

Third party game suck on the Wii, minus one or two that were already big on the Gamecube anyway (ie: Resident Evil). It's a rule, not something you should "take into consideration". Worms will sell, but it'll also be a crappy, half assed game. End of story.

nickythenewt21 you actually think that, that is one of the greatest movies of all time? for 30 minutes it's just the same thing and the screen changes colors. in order to think that movie is really that "great" you have to be high or extremely drunk.

Hope this game turns out as good as the original Worms, it was the best in the series.

Ugh, they use a pun of one of the greatest movies of all time (2001: A Space Odyssey, for those who don't have a good taste in movies). Count me out, please. I'd much rather get some other platformer for the Wii (Super Mario Galaxy, cough!).

The Motion Sensor controls are perfect for a game like Worms.
------------
How so? I don't remember much motion being used in Worms. It's usually based on trajectory, which is going to be tougher, if anything, to control with the Wiimotes.
