Quake Wars gets golden

Enemy Territory set to storm retail shelves as Activision confirms shooter for October 2 North American release, September 28 in Europe, Australia.

At the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Activision first revealed Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, showing a minute-and-a-half-long teaser trailer with a 2006 release date. The game missed that date, as well as two other release windows given by Activision, but now it appears the Quake Wars are finally ready to ignite.

Activision and id Software today announced that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for the PC has gone gold, and will be released October 2 in North America, and September 28 in Europe and Australia. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will ship at a later, as-yet unannounced date.

Set before the events of Quake II, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars drops players in the middle of the beastly Strogg's initial invasion, when they went head-to-head with the Global Defense Force. Players can join either side as one of five character classes and play online or offline with the help of computer-controlled teammates and opponents. The game also lets players grow their characters over time and offers submissions to help new players contribute to the battle without needing to understand the big picture.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a rare entry in the Quake series, as it carries a rating of T for Teen. The only other installment to avoid an M for Mature rating was the Sega Saturn version of the original Quake, which was also bestowed a T rating.

    Merl57 ironically Quake Wars hasn't been delayed a single time. Id and Splash Damage have NEVER untill now given a release date.

    I wasn't every really into Quake, but I played Quake 4 for the PC and X360 and I while I wasn't impressed, it was still lots of fun. I'll be looking forward to seeing if the next one is even better.

    Netcode better be fixed and not total garbage. Also, the random cutting out of Field Ops targeting for artillery/Hammer strikes ruins the entire class.

    This better be a good game, I've seen the screens and videos and it looks just a game that took little bits our of every game and put them together and release it.

    ctg867, your wrong. Why? Cause Warhawk isn't that great and not everybody likes Halo! Some people have a PC instead of a 360, Wii, or PS3. Trust me, this game is awesome (beta)... It's going to sell alot of copies if anyone around here is still interested in Quality games."

    Well let's see, in the overall gaming community, Warhawk has had more press then Quake Wars, and there are a lot of people with a PS3 who are looking for a good shooter, and that's Warhawk. As far as Halo is concerned, it will probably sell more in the first day, then Quake Wars will sell in it's first few months on all three platforms combined. And if you think I'm exaggerated, you obviously don't know how video games sell.

    Quake Wars does look like a quality game, I never said anything otherwise. But it doesn't have the hype or the press that other games have, even if those other games aren't as good, like Warhawk. Due to the FACT that shooting games have a bigger, more profitable home on consoles, rather then PCs, it's harder to sell Quake Wars.

    Why? Because it's a game that isn't very well known from a console standpoint, which is where games sell three or four times more. And with all the other higher profile games coming out this holiday, Quake Wars will sell, but not would it could sell if it came out in the first half of next year. Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and a number of other games completely and totally shadow over Quake Wars. Not to mention that huge PC exclusive that looks a lot better, and will probably end up being the better game: Crysis.

    Man, I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get this game or Halo 3. It sounds more interesting than Halo 3 so far..

    i will check out the demo first. surely there will be a mod blood patch or something before long? that should keep the hardcore gamers happy. i thought games were ment to reflect realism.

    The multiplayer mode for RTCWolfenstein and Enemy Territory was some of the most fun i've had online with games. ET is free btw...go d/l it. I'm sure this most recent version will be great too.

    Not worried about the T rating lol you get kids on all games just play with people you know for crying out loud , should be more concerned at how good the game will be rather than the T rating anyway

    it's not like it's a Manhunt adapted for children edition. I mean chill damn it. I played Doom II when I was ten, disregarding any ratings out there. So, tell me why do kids these days have to consider these ratings. Sure.. you'll all say look at the graphics and details, but the feeling is all the same. If I can control my child to play anything and educate him that games and reality are total different matters that would be rather fine. I mean, a friend of mine had a 9 year old nephew who played GTA: Vice City. He really sucked at it as he only nicked cars of the street and crash them into people and then into the large sea or a big building. He was having lots of fun doing it. As long as he wouldn't understand how to "discover the truth" behind the GTA dark possesing makes-you-wanna-kill-somebody feeling it's fine with me.

    Gaz-420...lol! play this game with your 11 year old son? that's the main reason why I'm not getting this game it's not made for adults..it's a dumbed down rated T for Teen version of what quake used to be..."Good"
    Let the kids play Mario or something they have no business playing a war game in the first place!

    I've beta tested 2 versions of this game, the first version was pretty bad, animations were off, the netcode had problems and the fun just wasn't there. The 2nd time around I was glad I gave the game another chance because it was a huge improvement from what I had played. This game is fun for a while, but it is really sad that there are no GIBS like Quake was in the beginning. For a lot of us who have been gaming since before FPS games were even around, we feel like we were the generation that grew up with the real Quake games and making this game rated T is the same as Live Free or Die Hard getting a pg-13, I just feel cheated. Just like movies, developers hold back their ideas and creativity by limiting a product to a certain rating, which in turn turns out games like Quake Wars which will be played for about 6 months before people go back to BF (which are infinitely better games and I don't even play them anymore)

    So everybody that is complaining about it being a T..... What if it is a super fun game, or even just a fun game? Are you not going to buy it because it is T? What a bunch of superficial idiots!!! I will be getting this game, if it is good, and, I will buy 2 copies so me and my 11 year old son can enjoy it together. It is very smart making the game a T. It expands their market......Duh!!!

    A game can be a T and still pack a good punch....ie, c&c3, supreme commander, GRAW2...... just to name a few.

    It doesn't matter to me who gets the game first. I plan on waiting a while to get this anyway to see what the general reviews say. I was hoping this would be a BF killer but now I really don't know. Maybe I will get it for the holidays.

    Seriously now, I was definitely going to buy it, but the mixed reactions toward the beta have me on the fence.

    Not that bad given some getting used to. The mechanics are really nice and hard to compare to others. While not ground breaking they are much needed additions. Especially when competing with old school warfare like the BF series.

    Quake Wars is weak.

    The screenshots and hype make it look amazing.

    But once you play it, it has a really generic feel.

    I thought it would be so revolutionary, and then i played the beta, and it's bad, really bad.

    Many people canceled theirs orders cuz of the beta.

    Well, that's a shame.

    I remember there used to be time Quake was so huge, but over the years the interests have died down, especially after Unreal Engine started getting popular. Quake Wars will still sell, but there is no way it will sell as many copies as the original Quake and Quake2.

    So, I know that Quake is a huge series. And this game looks to be pretty huge, but this holiday, it wont' sell. Unfortunately, this game is ending up lead on consoles, second on PC, since consoles sell a hell of a lot more, and console gamers will be too into Halo 3, Warhawk, and other games they are more familiar with, rather then Quake, which not everybody will recognize on the consoles unfortunately.

    Sorry, but games like that just aren't going to sell this holiday. They should push it back to Q1. That may sound stupid going against MGS4, Killzone 2, and GTA IV, but they could just pull a Lost Planet and launch it in January. And incase you forgot, Lost Planet sold somewhere in the ballpark of a million copies. And it was only on the 360 when it came out. And I'm sure we would all agree that Lost Planet would of tanked if it came out in Holiday '06.
