2K patrolling Borderlands in late '08
Take-Two arm will publish forthcoming postapocalyptic action-RPG from Gearbox; game will arrive next holiday season; first screens inside.
This year's holiday season will go down as having one of the most densely packed game-release schedules of all time. However, 2008 is also starting to fill up as well. Grand Theft Auto IV, Spore, Prototype, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots constitute but a small sampling of the game goods that next year has to offer.
Now, another intriguing title can be added to the list. Today, 2K Games announced it will be publishing Borderlands, the just-revealed title from developer Gearbox Software (Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway). The Take-Two Interactive subsidiary will simultaneously publish the postapocalyptic driving-and-shooting action RPG next holiday season for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. No rating or pricing for the game has yet been revealed.
Today's announcement also gave a little insight into the technology behind Borderlands. The game will incorporate a content-creation system that will allow for "thousands of unique, randomly generated missions, weapons, and situations." It will also allow for high levels of customization of both vehicles and characters. Borderlands' online co-op mode will allow up to four players to enter and leave the game at will. There will also be a single-player mode, though no mention was made of a specific campaign or storyline.
GameSpot will have more details on Borderlands as it emerges.
