BioShock demo zaps Xbox Live

Sampler for 2K Boston's open-ended first-person shooter arrives on the 360; PC demo following later this month.

Despite flying new colors under its newly dubbed moniker 2K Boston, the studio formerly known as Irrational Games seems to be unwavering on its projected August 21 release date for BioShock. As evidence of that fact, and perhaps to prove that not all of Take-Two's aggressively anticipated games have hit the skids, 2K Games unveiled a demo for BioShock on Xbox Live over the weekend.

Weighing in at a hefty 1.35GB, the demo offers gamers a preview of the open-ended gameplay for 2K Boston's science-experiment-gone-wrong first-person shooter. Players will have access to a variety of weapons and utilities as they explore the remnants of a decaying city, while warding off genetically altered monstrosities and navigating the perils of a technically advanced society. Gamers looking to parse out their precious holiday dollars should check out GameSpot's previous coverage for a more in-depth look at the game.

Following up on the Xbox 360 demo, 2K Games today announced that a PC demo will be available later this month. Rated M for Mature, the full version of BioShock will be available for the PC and Xbox 360 for $49.99 and $59.99, respectively.

I've had mine for almost a year now, got it second hand, it has frozen a grand total of 4 times.

I'm not denying there is a high fail rate, and i dont see why it should be a touchy subject, it's just one of those things. I'm just happy mine hasn't given me any trouble.

    Downloading now..

But i gotta say, i don't see the fairness when they charge 49.99 for the PC version and $10 more for the 360 version. Wheres the rational behind that at all. Ok, i get production costs have gone up...but then whys the PC version still $49.99 and the 360 is $59.99. Wouldn't the production cost be the same. Why do we have to pay more??

LOL - honestly the first time i've ever heard that. A break from folding or what?

Honestly, I don't give a damn about the suxs box and how many times it breaks down. I'm getting this game. It will be on a 360. It will probably explode. I don't care. I can handle 3rd degree burns, a fat microsoft lawsuit, and a lot more time to play this game. For horrible craftsmanship, you have to admit, the amount of pure quality, fun titles (Beautiful Katamari, Fallout 3, GTA 4, Halo 3 can blow me, but it is essential, since it gets all of those 12 year old mouth breathers that ream me in Gears off of Gears so I can actually spend some time resalvaging my dignity) that just keep getting cranked out on the 360. Create your monopoly, Microsoft. Rule the world. Leave Sweden alone. That's my escape plan. In conclusion. Yeah, I dig BioShock a lot.

Putting words in your mouth? Haha that's what I told you last time. The information is not disproven and most 360 fans know this too. Alot won't deny the fact the 360 has a high failure rate, it's just a touchy issue. They like their console and they will put up with it but you are ignoring the FACTS. It has been proven and I pointed you towards the articles from big name video game retailers like gamestop and some European retailers, not to mention Microsofts own representative.

The X360 demo was quite fun. I couldn't put my hands down and it definitely made me want to get the full version. Even though I'm getting it for the PC since I haven't gotten any good games for it for a long while... :p

Spork - i am warning you, you are putting words in my mouth, spamming, stating already disproven information that was proven completely wrong in previous posts. You are only discrediting yourselves by continuing to do so, as well as clutter up a comment board that is for BioShock 360 demo release. Take it to PMs.

indeed whats the point in arguing? the game kicks ass and has got over 95% from reviews, cant you celebrate a good game rather then get into a nerd off or something? chill out go try and get a girlfriend, itl change your life trust me! the game is awesome and if it was on the nes id buy one of those to play it!

Leave it to GameSpot users to turn a comments page for a game demo into an argument about the PS3 and completely unrelated topics. Because when one of the best single-player experiences of this generation appears, the first thing we think of is "how can I use this to debate platform exclusivity"? It's like people forget about actually playing the games.

This demo is fantastic and the full experience will no doubt be incredible. And seriously, the whole PC versus console debate is getting more and more archaic every day. This is no longer the early 90s where consoles and PCs represented drastically and dramatically different gaming experiences. The platforms are blurred together more and more each day. Consoles are getting mods and downloadable content, PC users are gaming on their living room TVs and games are appearing cross platform simultaneously. It's turning into just another fanboy argument.

Re: "any one who says this might come to the ps3, is just trying to cling to hope."

yeah, like the hordes of 360 fanatics who swear that MGS4 is coming to the 360. personally, i hope Bioshock does come to the PS3. it, Mass Effect and Fable 2 are the only three games making me consider rebuying another 360. Bioshock going PS3, coupled with rumors of Bioware developing for the PS3 (hopefully these are true) means that i won't have to come up with $400 for a 360 (Fable 2 isn't enough by itself).

but what i don't understand is all the hate. if the game comes to the PS3, how is that bad news for 360 fans? enjoying your game should come first and foremost above bickering about it going to a "competitor's" system. it wouldn't bug me either way if MGS4 came to the 360; simply because i'm confident in my assurance that i'll enjoy it no matter what.

The PC version is cheaper because of a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that there is no middle man that needs paid as well (Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo get part of the proceeds of game sales, Dell however does not), and piracy is FAR more rampant on PC, and higher prices would just spur that. As far as more options on PC, again, game sales are quite low on PC compared to consoles, generally more is needed to sell as well, and even then, PC usually only gains modability if anything.

I'm really liking the demo. I have been looking forward to BioShock for a long time and this demo makes me want it more. What's cool is that my girlfriend can't wait to get her hands on it either.
I was debating either getting Blue Dragon or BioShock since bother are released within the same week. The demo made up my mind and this should hold me over until September 25.

nikefreak ima end the argument with this, They are both released on same day and PC has more stuff, i agree it makes sense for them to put it to pc eventually for gears of war for example, but ur months/year later part has no relavence to the PC version since they are both released on the same day, and the PC version is cheaper

    Posted Aug 13, 2007 2:30 pm PT

Yeah PC's are the best for FPS and RTS games...and thats pretty much it. Thats why console gaming will continue to dominate the market while PC gaming will remain niche at best or go the way of the Arcade at worst

Temmehkan - Yes, imagine that. A game going from a Microsoft console to a Microsoft platform. Crazy isnt it? No, not really - just something that a PS3 fanboy wants to squabble over. Get over it, PC and 360 get alot of shared game experiences this generation. And if you take a game from 360, and port it months/years later to PC, then yes - generally the later released version will have more - as they need to give people a reason to buy it over the previous one (that is also likely cheaper by that point, but even if not), in addition to fans buying both - as one has more content that they want (after they already bought the other). Its just smart business...

No, your very wrong. On the PC version we will be able to get much higher fps, better graphics, higher resolutions, and kb/m support.
