Retail Radar: UK retailer lists MGS4 for 360

[UPDATE] HMV taking preorders for Konami's latest Hideo Kojima game on the Xbox 360, listed as arriving at the end of September 2008; company says listing was "admin error."

The rumours have been flying furiously for some time now that Konami's latest Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, will be coming to Microsoft's Xbox 360.

The game, stated as a PlayStation 3-exclusive by both Konami and Hideo Kojima himself, is considered one of the biggest exclusives that the PlayStation 3 has coming up. After the success of Metal Gear Solid and its sequels on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, many consider the game to be vital to the PS3's success.

However, recently Konami has appeared to be mulling over the decision to make the game PS3-exclusive. Konami's North American and European operations head, Kazumi Kitaue, recently said in an interview, "Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps." The executive continued to state that the company was mulling a multiplatform release in order to make its development money back.

In perhaps the likeliest indication yet, or perhaps just an unfortunate admin mistake, UK retailer HMV is now taking preorders for the title on the 360 on its Web site.

The listing on HMV's Web site states that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is available now for preorder, at £39.99 (£10 off the recommended retail price of £49.99), and that the title will be released for the 360 on September 26, 2008, in the UK, five months after the PS3 version is currently due.

[UPDATE] An HMV representative told GameSpot that, "In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking preorders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform."

He continued, "We're sorry to have caused such a stir--the oversight has now been corrected. He is now sitting on the naughty step."

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

    i hope mgs4 comes to xbox 360 because im not gonna buy a ps3 for one game.
    I think it would be better on xbox 360 becasue of the live.
    I really hope they release it on 360 konami would make way more money on the 360 version anyway. There are 24 million xbox 360 sold world wide and only, 16 million ps3 sold, and sales are still increasing for the Xbox 360 and now decreasing for the Ps3.( found on wiki)

    I really hope they decide to bring it to 360. I think there are going to be a lot of of disappointed fans out their if they decide against it. It would also be an unhealthy business decision to risk not even making their development money back.

    It needs to come to 360. Some people, like me, don't have the money to spend for a ps3. If we have to wait five months, we'll wait five months. I want to know the final story of snake.

    Like many have said this would be great financially (not only for developers but consumers who have already shelled out $350+ for a 360). if you look historically MGS is not a PS exclusive... MGS2: sustainance is on Xbox they released MGS for the Gamecube (though it was slightly tweaked). I personally would not be surprised to see the MGS series come to the 360 whether it is in the original form or not well that is something to debate.

    it aint going multi platform so keep on dreaming! Its not the only exclusive for the ps3. Take Haze, Killzone2, GT, LittleBig Planet, Warhawk, Resistance, Home (even tho its not really a game as such)

    me personally, i would love to see this go multiplatform. i lvoe the series and i dont want a PS3 but i do want this game. and i am not going to buy a PS3 for just one damn game. and look at GTA. it was playstation all the way until i believe GTA: SA came out and bam.... it was on the original XBox. and it did pretty good. i ant this game bad and i am smiling simply because it MIGHT come to 360. i hope it does.

    I myself rmember a nintendo exclusive Resident Evil 4, viewtiful joe, and a few others......
    Rare, a company now owned by Microsoft is still making games for nintendo.....
    if there is financial benifite (which there is) there probably will not be any hesitation on its release on XBOX and hey i'm a PS fan too but there price for the PS3 is out of hand so it would be financialy profitable for me as well

    It can't come out on the 360! The PS series have always had the MGS series as exclusives... And MGS4 should be no exception. And with Konami having advertized the game as 'PS3 exclusive', I can't see why it should come out on 360. PS3 needs exclusives and this is perhaps the greatest.

    MGS4 is going to be a great game for the PS3. It would be just as good on 360. Personaly I'm a Playstation fan, but the Xbox 360 is agreat peice of hardware. Most games I want are for both PS and 360. So I don't need to worry. The only ones I want for 360 that are exclusives are Gears Of war and Halo 3. and gears of war is coming out for my PC, and I'm sure Halo 3 will just like Halo 1 and 2. so I have no need for a 360.

    Personally I dont care if it comes out on the 360. I will most likely bye it for the PS3 because i am not going to wait until september of next year. I have been waiting long enough as it is.

    Might I just say that, IF MGS4 goes to the 360, it would be fine. I know we all have our loyalties to Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, but at the end of the day, aren't we all gamers? What's with the hate?

    If MGS4 on X360 teaches someone new to the MGS series about its greatness, then everyone's a winner! (If he/she wants to learn about the other MGS games, outside of MGS2, he HAS to play on a PS2!)

    Quit hating and appreciate the IDEA that others might be able to talk about a game series / singular game that you love with you.

    and Cbordi, did you forget that the 360 owners are going to buy the most anticipated game since gaming existed "Halo 3". MGS4 does seem to be extremely good, but you also cant call a game the best ever until you have played it.

    LegionOSH, very well said great point, i believe this game should be exclusive because it gives sony a good name and something to have pride in. I do understand what you mean about giving everyone a chance to play it, but you failed to mention Halo 3? why not have that multiplatform, so "everyone will have a chance to play"?

    Oh and for anyone who thinks im a ps3 fanboy, i dont even have one i have a 360 but bein a fanboy is stupid, i plan to get a ps3 very soon anyways.

    i hope this eventually comes to 360 - i have played all the main metal gear solid games, played MGS2 on ps2 and xbox and thought they were the same. i still have my old ps2 and own MGS3-subsistence = love it. 360 MGS4 could survive without the six-axis. i'm a missive fan of the series and hope i don't miss out on this one.

    I AM NOT A FANBOY neither.....but i hae a ps360....and im glad this aint goin to 360....the controls wood be so stupid....360 owners that r only xbox fans that have never played ps2....that all of a sudden want to get this for ps3 is like starting at the end of a real long good movie....stupid this will never go to 360 ppl.....maybe after it sells like 10 million copies to the ps3 idk if that'll ever happen .....but i picked the 2 better consoles ps360>wii

    Im not a XBOX360 fan boy or anything, but thats the only next gen system i have so i hope it does go multi-platform near its PS3 launch! ..well since the game has been delayed untill 2008 maybe ill be able to get a ps3 during that time? I HOPE!

    God ithink more and more people should play MGS4(the greatest game ever!)but i still want it to BE exclusive...i dont HATE or DISLIKE Xbox,infact i like it....But i LOVE PS3 and i want it to win the console years.Anyways PS3 IS infact,more advanced than the Xbox360

    Ok, I am seriously tired of the fanboys on both sides. Please grow up everyone.

    But to clarify..

    First, Hideo has said in the past that he saw no reason why the 360 COULDN'T run MGS4. Look it up.

    Secondly, unless practically every single PS3 owner on the planet buys a copy of MGS4 they are bound to lose money on the title. Like it or not it's a matter of simple economics. Simple logic. (unless the rumored movie tie in thing is true, then they can eat some of the game dev cost and in return keep the game totally exclusive to PS3 and get profits from the film, etc..otherwise keeping it exclusive seems like a very costly proposition).

    Third, yes Sony has stated it's a full on exclusive, and it very possibly is...but even if it wasn't, would anyone expect them to say that one of their consoles biggest franchises is also going to their competitor? Might as well announce a $100 price cut months in advance publicly to let everyone know not to buy their console anytime soon.

    Someone posted here (I think it was here anyway) that the 360 fanboys "are so much harsher than the PS3 fanboys are". Personally I think it's the other way around.

    Every PS3 fanboy seems to want to be a total jerk and belittle every 360 owner. That's what I see. While I may be more partial to my 360 than my PS3 I don't blindly hate or follow either one (I also have a Wii, DS lite and a PSP but I'll exclude those for now)..like it or not most people agree the 360s holiday lineup is better than either of it's competitors, and personally I agree. I am well aware (as most of the world is) of the 360s RROD issues, so please let's not use that every other sentence. Microsoft is trying to rectify the issue. I agree it would've been FAR better had it never been an issue to begin with, but at least they are doing what they can make it right (short of a total recall that is)..

    Personally I own all 3 current consoles (as stated above), but I see nothing wrong with MGS4 coming to 360. The more people that can play the game the better.

    If Bioshock also went to the PS3, I wouldn't care. The game looks great. Why not let everyone have a chance to play it? If Mass Effect also went to the PS3, I'd feel the same way.

    Some of the lesser intelligent people seem to think consoles keep exclusives "for the fans". Not so fast. 95% of the time they keep exclusives to keep their customer base. Sony is banking that people will buy a PS3 for MGS4 (not to mention FF XIII), so it's in their best interest to do everything they can to keep their top tier games exclusive. Every console maker does it, so I am not singling out Sony here..I simply used them for reference since MGS4 is the topic.

    (and for all the "special people" who don't know, Final Fantasy didn't begin with Sony. Nintendo had the first 6 in the series on their consoles. There is a reason the first FF on a Sony platform was called "Final Fantasy 7"...which reminds me I need to re-buy all the PS Final Fantasy's...man that's gonna be costly..lol..

    Unlike the fanboys, I know consoles NEED some exclusives because (as stated by someone else) if every console had the same game people would 95% of the time opt for the cheapest solution. Why pay more for the same thing?

    I hope this helps clarify some things..and I know some fanboys will try to retaliate with some "U R teh suK"..whatever. If that is your best retort please don't waste my time. if you insist on commenting at least A) learn to spell (I am aware I make some grammar and spelling mistakes, but it's apparent those are simple mistakes and not me trying to "377t speak", B) use logic and not just blind insults and C) act like you're older than 12..unless you aren't...

    Anyway that's my two cents..

    aaah it pleases me to hear it over and over again.. 360 will never have MGS4 =D yeah i love to hear it.. the 360 owners will never be able to play the best game in the world (unless they bought a PS3 offcourse).

    If Konami wants to make up that development money and then some (which they will in spades), dont be surprised that after a year and a half or two it will make its way to Xbox 360 and possibly PC. I dont care one way or the other, so dont mistake me for a (im an old geezer compared to most of u ha-ha) fanboy.

    Okay, one statement I can't stand is the idea that MGS4 being made for the X360 is like Halo3 being made for the PS3. First off, Microsoft Game Studios publishes the Halo games, so that's not happening. But wait, were you dumb enough to think that SCE publishes the MGS games, or were you misled for other reasons?

    Will MGS4 come to the X360? More than likely...No.

    Does X360 need MGS4? No.

    Does PS3 need MGS4? Yes, yes, and yes. PS3 needs a monster hit, and MGS4 is primed to be it. The bad thing is that it's not being released until next year. Sony needs a monster hit to go up against Halo 3 this Christmas; say what you will about all the PS3 exclusives being released this year; fact is, none of them are going to be as big as Halo (I'm not trying to say that the PS3 games are bad; far from it. It's just that people have been waiting for Halo 3 just as long as they've been waiting for MGS4).

    the majority of MGS games are made on a sony console, so really theres is just no way this one (the last game in the series) will be on the 360
