NewsSpots: Heavenly Sword, Neves, Universe at War

Sony's anticipated actioner gets demoed this week, Yuke's goes beyond the mat, and Sega's RTS enters closed beta.

Heavenly Sword teases PSN
Kyle Shubel from Sony's Santa Monica Studios has announced by way of PlayStation.blog that a playable demo for the highly anticipated PlayStation 3 action game Heavenly Sword will be available sometime this week via the PlayStation Store. In the demo, players step into the skin of blade-wielding vixen Nariko shortly after she regains consciousness from a traumatic encounter with King Bohan and his army. Shubel also reiterated that Heavenly Sword is on track to meet its expected September release date.

Yuke's wrestles with DS puzzle game
While Yuke's is a name generally synonymous with THQ's WWE wrestling games, the company's US subsidiary today announced Neves, a DS game with a much more cerebral emphasis. In the game, players must arrange seven blocks to completely fill more than 500 different silhouettes. Yuke's will release Neves in the US this November, with cooperation from Atlus USA.

Universe at War seeks skirmishers
Sega has announced that it is taking applications for the closed beta test of Universe at War: Earth Assault on the PC. Interested participants can sign up to help test the platform-spanning real-time strategy game through the company's Web site until August 15. The first 8,000 people to sign up will be officially qualified to participate in the test, which runs from August 17 to September 16. Universe at War: Earth Assault is currently slated to be released on the PC this October, with an Xbox 360 version following during the first quarter of 2008.

I'll be buying Heavenly Sword once Sony lowers the price of the 80GB model, which might be in Christmas.

Very next gen, run around, variety of attacks... but can't jump... superb.

Demo is very interesting and kudos to the developer for giving it to the UK at the same time as everyone else for once! I'm a bit concerned about the frame rate though, especially during the heroine's leap into the courtyard at the end of the demo. Here's hoping the engine is still being fine-tuned.

In God of War, can you switch between three stances, have different counter attacks and have big special moves that take out all enemies around you?. Nope. Therefore, not Goddess of war.

Heres an interesting thought....what if Nariko and Kratos had a kid...

its not like GoW, where in GoW do you get to use a different fighting styles, fight thousands of enemies. Please, someone tell me whats the same about these two games beside them being hack n' slash, the chain sword thing (which is not original to GoW, and is only one of Noriko's styles), and them being sony exclusives. GoW is a great game but don't be so closed minded because you saw a clip of this chick using her sword in a similar style a Kratos, that is only one of her styles. Anyway, what makes GoW so different from any other hack n' slash? HS looks great, and i'm getting it, and i will hope that at the least it is as good a GoW, and it will be a welcomed addition to the genre.

people kill me when they call this game a female version of god of war. first off who cares. God Of War is awesome so that's moreso a compliment than anything. i noticed that most of them are xbox fanboys lol so i guess i'm not too surprised. i bet they'd be pissed if people refered to Halo 3 as Halo 2 with a new bubble shield. lol. anyway carry on your quest to frolic off into fanboydom.

Sooo nice. Looking forward to it. I don`t care that maybe it`s like GoW. Most important it`s gonna be a top notch beatemup.
