PS3 firmware 1.90 imminent

Latest update to Sony's console will be available across the Atlantic on July 24, in the US in "next few days."

Sony's PlayStation 3 will very shortly be updated to firmware version 1.90.

The latest download, which will be released in Europe on July 24, brings with it a range of new features, fixes, and tweaks, including emoticons, in-game PS3 video setting customization, and the ability to eject a disc using the option menu.

Other new features include the ability to rearrange games on the XMB (dashboard), change folder classifications, add bookmarks, and enable Web security, as well as access new XMB backgrounds and a "bit mapping" option in music settings.

Also in the update is the ability to change the CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz, force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI, save AVCHD-type animations from a memory stick, and change settings such as upscaling while playing PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games. Avatars will also now move during visual chat.

[UPDATE] According to SCEA's Playstation Blog, the update will be available in the US "in the next few days."

Pablo - The 360 had a lot of this stuff out of the gate, so I don't see how you have the right to brag. It's as stupid as the 360 owners bragging about MS addressing the red rings: It's what they're SUPPOSED to do.

That being said, I'll enjoy being able to put wallpapers on the PS3 cross media bar. Now we just need faster downloading of updates.

My games never ever crash. What games crash? I like the psn except for the fact that the content isn't as ample as it could be. Finally some wallpapers!

    I wonder if anyone's made a PS3 homebrew yet..?

I'm sure people have done many homebrews already. Especially since you can install other operating systems.

LOL funny how the 360 fanboys have less and less to bash the PS3 on, digitalpro where you around for E3 when Sony announced tons of new games and brought out many others from hiding...killzone...while the 360 showed what new, another viva pinata and scene it...lmao what a joke. And dont get me started on the Wii fit garbage

I have 1.90 right now in the US, I had to get it to stay online in the Playstation Store and play Resistance online. 1.90 is ok, they added a theme setting for background wallpaper, and some minor improvements in grouping and arranging things on the system with emotions now for chat. But overall I would love to see some more video playback features like the ablitiy to playback Xvid and AVI files. but it was a good update I hope the next couple of updates finish it up for the year. Peace

Everytime they update they get close to finishing the PS3. It's obvious it was less than half done when they started selling it.

They update with firmware OS constantly and it is not even a year old.

my xbox has not had that many and it is a year old. My wii has had 2.

Pretty much useless the way I see it. Hey Esteban011487, muscle doesn't matter here, it's a console (brains).

    Brains ay?

You DO know it has 7 right? I hear it keeps a cool head under pressure... more so then the other console you know... the one thats costing its pops a cool billion in medical bills.

Thats teh difference between PS3 adn Xbox 360 (have em both, love em both), Xbox is simpler in its operation, straight forward with games, PS3 is more of a computer than a console...

All this firmware with downlodable features, cd output, different numbers, bit mapping, 24hz so & so. It's very complicated. My head hurts. I'm just here to play videogames, not all this.

what is bit mapping option mean? play while playing games yet? ejecting disc without pushing the button on front seems kinda of pointless unless it breaks cause you have to get up to put new one in anyway. Can we just call the PS3 a high end PC yet with a blu-ray drive seriously but cheaper. browse web, change everything on desktop OS (XMB) now.

I heard they might release some form of achievements like on 360 this winter. That would kinda suck because I'm already trying to get more achievements on 360, I don't think I can handle 2 consoles at the same time.

ITs about time for this update, I would for them to add the ability to run games off a EXternal HD and not just the HDD. I love for some more play back file types like WMV or Xvid or even AVI I am getting tried of converting everything to .mp4 even knowing it is a smaller format and saves space but I have about 100+ videos I want to put on there and I do not want to convert all of them. The next update better hopefully fix some of the glitches in the Home Beta too, peace

@cjnwo4life: "...10. Smackdown vs. raw 08 (this I might get on the Wii. Don't ask)..."

I sense more broken TV reports with the Wii version of a WWE game I feel you. It will be interesting when we here the 1st report of tv being destroyed because the people fell into them. Still looks to be fun though but will also be interesting as well.

...and where are the good games? lol. The PS3 needs a lot more games to warrant a purchase at this stage in its life... it also needs a price cut...yeah definitely a price cut.
