E3 '07: New games, movies rush Xbox Live
Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe debut on Live Arcade tonight, along with a slew of Disney-owned films.
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Microsoft's E3 Media and Business Summit press conference was rife with new games and news, but few announcements had as immediate an impact as the company's new lineup of content for Xbox Live Marketplace.
Microsoft corporate vice president Jeff Bell showed off an array of new content coming to Xbox Live, including a wealth of Live Arcade games and a whole reel of feature films from Disney and its various film labels, such as Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, and Miramax Films. Bell also said the content would begin appearing on the Xbox Live service tonight, starting with the Sega Genesis's Golden Axe and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Bell introduced the Disney deal with a montage of film clips from Tarzan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, and Emperor's New Groove. From Touchstone, the live-action movies Waterboy, Unbreakable, Armageddon, Brothers Grimm, Bringing Down the House, Coyote Ugly, Primeval, The Queen, and Venus were shown. Bell then said that all of the movies previewed would arrive on Xbox Live tonight, in both standard and high-definition formats.
