Bleach brightening DS, Wii this fall

Sega bringing games based on Cartoon Network anime to Nintendo platforms this fall.

The Bleach anime is relatively new to North American shores, appearing for the first time on Cartoon Network's late-night block known as Adult Swim last September. But that doesn't mean it hasn't been around. More than 10 games based on the series have landed on Japanese gamers' systems, spanning six different platforms. North American fans of the anime will be pleased to know two games will launch in time for the show's second season, and for a change, the anime adaptations won't be handled by Namco Bandai.

Sega sends word today that Bleach: Shattered Blade on the Wii and Bleach: The Blade of Fate on the Nintendo DS will be available this fall. Both Bleach games will follow the anime's 15-year-old protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki, as he fights to protect Earth from spectral beings known as "Hollows." In the past, the megapublisher has been responsible for all Nintendo-platform versions of the game in Japan.

In Bleach: Shattered Blade, players will arm themselves with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and use slashing, jabbing, and lunging motions to attack enemies. The game's storyline features 32 characters, and players will be able to repeat passed episodes with characters unlocked throughout the adventure. Shattered Blade will also feature a competitive offline multiplayer mode.

The DS version, Bleach: The Blade of Fate, will be a 2D action game featuring 28 characters from the anime. Blade of Fate will also incorporate spirit card decks, which are cards that can be used in battle to give special power-ups or cast unique spells. The DS version offers cooperative local online play for up to four players.

It's not going to be stripped down, they're keeping everyone. But I'm sure you all know that by now. Everyone was going crazy over the person who is doing Grimmjow's dubbed voice, think it was David something

the card decks arent the soul purpose of the DS version, they just help, its still just a fighting game

The Arrancar on the cover of the Wii version is not Grimmjow, but Arturo, and new one made specifically for the game.

I bet that all the characters introduced post-Soul Society will be removed simply due to the fact that the dub hasn't gone that far yet. It will most likely be a stripped down version.

WoW!! another anime fighting game? LAME. They need to make these Anime games like Zelda, an Adventure game that follows the anime. I hate these stupid fighting games, they are all just clones of DBZ:BK.

There is a new Naruto Game coming out that will be an adventure game, I hope they make Bleach like that. Word to game companies, quit ruining great anime franchises, not everyone is going to like a game just because its based off an anime.

I'm a real fan of Bleach and am at chapter 282 of the manga now. I hope that the wii game covers close to this point in the series. I saw some Esspada in the video trailor and saw Ichigo's, as well as others ban kai, so it is further than what I have seen on TV.
I dont see how the wii functionality could work well with these fighting games, but it turned out alright on mortal kombat, although I think it could have been used for more than just special attacks.
Hopefully it will work better on this game, but I'll probably buy it anyways.

well... the cover has grimmjow on it, does that mean they will actually go farther than what cartoon network has reached? and to where the fansubbed manga readers are at? that would make my day

While I do agree that Bleach is awesome, remember, this is a tie-in game. It's fairly likely that this will get about a 6.

I can't speak for the quality of the Wii version, but the DS game in question is the second-best traditional 2-D fighter for the platform on the market today, period. First place goes to the sequel, which is already out in Japan and is nothing short of amazing. Think Street Fighter meets Soul Calibur and you're in the neighborhood.

These games could give any traditional 2-D fighter on ANY platform a run for its money. Most anime-inspired games are of questionable quality and rely on the series' popularity to sell, but Bleach DS is one of those rare exceptions where the game is actually good enough to sell the anime.

    Believe it.

LOL @ all the tools writing the DS game off without even watching a gameplay video or actually seeing it in action.

Bleach DS is arguably one of the best portable fighting games out to date, period. It's basically what Guilty Gear DS should've been, and more.

This article would carry far more "oomph" if Gamespot mentioned that Bleach DS was developed by Treasure. It's not your average anime fighting game.

It's a shame that I've already imported it...printing up and carrying around big translation guides is kind of embarassing.

I wonder if you can play with owners of the Japanese version of the game?

W00T! I've had Japanese imported Heat The Soul 1-3 on PSP and I love them. Can't wait to have a western version... Just need to actually get my hands on a Wii, but the DS version is a possiblity.

Also, hope it has Japanese voice cast as an option... I'm sorry. But the Power Ranger souldn't of been cast as Ichigo.
