Zelda DS dated, Metroid 3 delayed

Nintendo's Phantom Hourglass setting sail on the DS October 1; Samus benched until August 27.

During the 2006 Game Developers Conference, Nintendo announced its best-selling Zelda franchise would be heading to its best-selling handheld, the DS. Since then, though, little has been heard about the game--until today. This morning, Nintendo sent word that The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass will arrive in North American stores on October 1, joining an already crowded fall holiday season.

A sequel of sorts to 2003's The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass picks up where Link and Tetra last left off on their ocean odyssey. The first DS installment in the long-running franchise features Wind Waker's cartoony art style, and all of Link's actions can be controlled using the handheld's touch screen. In addition to a full single-player mode, players can test their mettle against one another locally in a two-player battle mode.

Fans fond of Nintendo swag will also be interested to know that members of Nintendo's rewards club, My Nintendo, can pick up a quill-pen-style stylus by registering their Phantom Hourglass game and Nintendo DS hardware at MyNintendo.com. (Supplies are limited.) For more on the game itself, check out GameSpot's impressions from an imported retail version from Japan, where it was released last June.

Unfortunately, Nintendo also had some semibad news today, namely that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has been delayed. Fortunately, the postponement is minor. Initially slated to be released a week after Madden NFL 08 on August 20, the game now won't arrive until August 27.

Hopefully they are fixing it so that the doors open up when you shoot them...unlike ALL of the other Metriod Prime games, Hunters included. The only bad thing about them...

Finally I can duke it out against another Link to see who is REALLY the better sword fighter. It will be mighty interesting to see how this game is with its touch controls.

The Delay of Metroid Prime 3 comes as no suprise. Its a AAA title and as such it shouldn't be rushed.

to darkzerogamer: Now Wiis are starting to appear everywhere, at least where I live. Maybe Nobody in my area wants a Wii. Or they just can't afford it. They're on ebay for about 100$ more than retail sticker price.

Uhh 1 week delay tacked on to a 9 month delay! Corruption was a launch title originally. Still, it could be worse. They could say that there is no online multiplayer...oh wait...nevermind.

    1 Week delay
    Oh terrible.. (Sarcasm)
At least it isnt a month like some games
Still i guess thats why the called it semibad..

That would be good news if I had a DS but I have a Wii so I can be sad about Metroid. But if I did have a DS I would be happy because I could get the new Zelda game but alas I cannot.

Let me get this straight... they delayed Metroid to obviously avoid madden...by releasing it within days of Bioshock...

Surely the madden crowd and sports fans wouldnt be dividing their game time and game money as much as the FPS action adventure crowd...

I want both of these games but have no care for sports games and now they are coming out in the same week and will no doubt clash for my attention, whereas i could have beaten MP3 in that week leading up to bioshock.

I thought MP2 was about as good as MP1, so MP3 should be just as good at the least. FYI Wii has freeloader already. I can't wait to see what else is coming out through E3 next week!!

I really hope they make MP3 good, MP2 was a dissapointment.

I didn't even know MP3 was that close to coming out, so a week is okay for me!... What a rough late summer/early fall it's going to be for my wallet!

Delayed a week? Seems a bit pointless. September,October,November are going to be crazy with games.
GTAIV, Halo3, Metriod, Zelda DS, Smash Bros and Galaxy (apparently) and Bioshock and hopefully Mass Effect, plus a new Pro Evo. How am i going to find the time to play all these games??

  • lonelogan87

    Posted Jul 3, 2007 3:03 am PT

well i think this is good new actually
ha at least we know for sure when these games are coming out....and believe me, if nintendo needs to take their time....let them.

Sadly, being British never pays off, KingKoop . We get bad weather all year round, we pay more for everything and as an extra bonus for living where we do, we're expected to sit tight and wait longer for everything. We're also so far behind in technology when compared to everywhere else. 10MB broadband is bog standard over in Japan! Here, its about the best you can get unless your run a business.

I see "Metroid 3 delayed", and it is only for 7 days? thanks for scaring the crap out of me gamespot

  • KingKoop

I'm assuming Aug 27 is for the U.S? Yet again being British doesn't pay off

C'mon! You didn't seriously think the announced date August 20 would be the final word, did you? Sometimes I hate being right. But why only a 7 day delay? My guess still is that Metroid Prime 3 won't arrive until September.

Nintendo HAS to take their time on games, if not they wouldnt be good, and what games would be good on their console then. Cause if it aint nintendo made it most likely blows

I dont mind. If all developers took their time, like Nintendo, then all games would be amazing.

Metroid's delay isn't too bad; it's just one week. I expect it to be a truly satisfying game.

As for Zelda, I'm glad we finally have a release date. I am really looking forward to it!
