Sierra's Conspiracy is Bourne
Vivendi division announces a game spin-off to 2002's hit spy movie, which will contain moments from the film and its book inspiration.
While any big-budget Hollywood blockbuster nowadays is sure to spawn some kind of game tie-in, it's taken five years for The Bourne Identity to make that happen. The game, titled Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, will be published by Vivendi Games subsidiary Sierra Entertainment for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next summer.
In the game, players will be able to uncover Jason Bourne's real identity and fill in some of the unanswered questions from the film, as well as see the moment that he became a wanted man in the first place. Though the company did say the game would "combine seminal moments from the best-selling novel and hit film The Bourne Identity," it did not say whether or not the film's star, Matt Damon, would lend his voice or likeness to the game.
The Bourne Conspiracy is being developed by one of Sierra's own companies, High Moon Studios, and is the result of close collaboration with the estate of Robert Ludlum, the author of the novels on which the films were based.
High Moon's president, Peter Della Penna, commented, "The goal of that collaboration has been to create a video game that takes inspiration from known elements within the Bourne universe...with original story and gameplay that establishes a signature Jason Bourne game and experience."
Since the release of the original Bourne Identity movie in 2002, Damon has starred in a sequel, The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, and reprises the role once again in the trilogy's final film later this year, The Bourne Ultimatum. There is no indication of further game titles at this point.
