Sierra's Conspiracy is Bourne

Vivendi division announces a game spin-off to 2002's hit spy movie, which will contain moments from the film and its book inspiration.

While any big-budget Hollywood blockbuster nowadays is sure to spawn some kind of game tie-in, it's taken five years for The Bourne Identity to make that happen. The game, titled Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, will be published by Vivendi Games subsidiary Sierra Entertainment for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next summer.

In the game, players will be able to uncover Jason Bourne's real identity and fill in some of the unanswered questions from the film, as well as see the moment that he became a wanted man in the first place. Though the company did say the game would "combine seminal moments from the best-selling novel and hit film The Bourne Identity," it did not say whether or not the film's star, Matt Damon, would lend his voice or likeness to the game.

The Bourne Conspiracy is being developed by one of Sierra's own companies, High Moon Studios, and is the result of close collaboration with the estate of Robert Ludlum, the author of the novels on which the films were based.

High Moon's president, Peter Della Penna, commented, "The goal of that collaboration has been to create a video game that takes inspiration from known elements within the Bourne universe...with original story and gameplay that establishes a signature Jason Bourne game and experience."

Since the release of the original Bourne Identity movie in 2002, Damon has starred in a sequel, The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, and reprises the role once again in the trilogy's final film later this year, The Bourne Ultimatum. There is no indication of further game titles at this point.

This game could be AWESOME, there's no chance of it beeing rushed, and the Bourne stories lend themselves well for a good video game.

Wow, after reading a lot of the comments, I can tell many of you did not play "Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay". That was prolly one of my top 5 games for the original Xbox. and it was based off of a pretty turdrific movie. The problem with most game movies, is that they are rushed to meet the deadline of the movie launch. This leads to very poor QA... With something like this, they could take the time to develop the game, test it properly, and have a decent title.

u know how everybody's just sayin d movie was awesome? well, yeah, it was god, but c'mon, it like, they ruined d book completely. EVERY SINGLE THING WAS CHANGED! i agree, cinema has its limitations, but... anyway, yeah, the movie was good, book better and i hope d game's more like the book than the movie, that'd b awesome

If the action is anything like the second movie, this game will not be any good - I couldn't stand the 2nd movie, the camera was moving about far too much for you to appreciate any choreography.

Anyways - The game will probably be filled with a bunch of cut-scenes, bad stealth action and some first person sneaking.
I doubt that this game will try out anything new, much like the movies before it.

I will look forward too this game once it has valid boundaries set. I'm glad they are making a Bourne game but it needs to be good to live up too the content of the books and the movies.

The problem with the Matrix was the DEVELOPERS Path of Neo was a great game. But they definantly could have took it and ran with it alot more than they did. You should not take a Movie like the Matrix and give it to Atari!

As much as I liked the movies, I never really saw this coming... I hope the game is just as good as "The path of Neo" to the Matrix. Just have to wait and see.

-CoMBaT- "...it is going to have to have a very advanced hand to hand combat system, with the ability to use basically any object as a weapon."
    ============================================
sounds like they would going the same route of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

  • -CoMBaT-

    Posted Jun 27, 2007 2:41 am PT

I really hope they make this properly...

If its going to be anything like the movies it is going to have to have a very advanced hand to hand combat system, with the ability to use basically any object as a weapon. I'd normally sigh and be depressed at the idea of a company thinking they're able to do this...but this is Vivendi.

Obviously its highly unlikely they will succeed...but unlike most companies they have a shot at it. I really hope the people they get to work on this game have read the books as well as seen the movies to open up some new things to those that haven't read the books, since there are differences between the books, and the movies.

As said by someone previously, if they do this correctly this game could be the next Goldeneye, absolutely crushing most competition. I really hope it follows a camera angle similar to Resident Evil 4, or Gears of War. It would fit this so well if the rest of the game is done properly. It would make the fighting all around fun, and precise.

  • darkchaostitan

A game based on a movie not base on the book. Never liked the repetitive plot of the movie. So the game's plot won't be any better or different than the movie.

vashvsgoku said: "you need to have more than a 5th grade education to read and understand the bourne books."

Check. It took me until I was past the second year of university to realize that these sorts of books were rarely worth the time or effort. I never said they were difficult; I said that they were plodding, trite, and dull. (They do make useful resources to research the mindset and concerns of people at that time, however. I just don't find that they do much, and certainly found that the movies were a vast improvement.)

"i just finished the last one, and yes it is not an easy read, but they are 3 spectacular books. just go back to the juvenile section and let the adults enjoy their books." vashvsgoku, I'm right around the median age for gamers (which was 29 a few years ago), I'm doing my doctorate in History on science in pop culture (which includes juvenile fiction - I don't judge based on a text's audience, just on content and style), and I'm a careful critic. Can I be an adult now? I read several Ludlum books trying to see what made them popular (the first two Bourne titles, "The Materese Cirlce," "The Road to Omaha," and whatever his first book was) and gave up with "Bourne Ultimatum." The only one I'd remotely consider re-reading is "Omaha," but I'd sooner read Foucault or Derrida for fun.

And I also hope that this game's not made into shovelware or a clone, though Vivendi has had some decent titles. I thought "Men of Valor" - though not a Sierra product - was quite good. Here's hoping this one pans out.

    YAY!

    Another crappy Movie-game!

The "Bourne" movies are awesome, but when you take ANY movie and make it into a game, 99% of the time, the game is completely half-assed.

    ^^^ Fact.
