NewsSpots: Sam and Max, Lost Planet, PlayStation 3

Sam and Max Steamed, Lost Planet mapped, PS3 firmware updated.

Telltale's adventure series headed to Steam
Earlier this year, Telltale games announced it would be bringing its Sam & Max series to retail shelves this August. In the meantime, the company announced today it would expand the adventure game series' reach online by bringing it to Steam, Valve Software's popular digital-distribution platform. Episodes run for $8.95 a piece, with a 10 percent discount available for their first week of release. For those new to the series, episodes one, two, and three and episodes four, five, and six can be bought bundled together. The two bundles run for $19.95 each.

New maps coming to Capcom's sci-fi shooter June 21
Capcom announced today that the third of three Lost Planet map packs promised to be forthcoming last February will be available on Xbox Live come June 21. Map Pack #3 will include three maps: Lost Technology, which Capcom somewhat mysteriously describes as a throwback to 8-bit gaming; Ruins, set within a jungle; and Ice Drop, which is set on a glacier. Including the first two map packs and the free map released last week, Capcom will have made available a total of eight multiplayer maps over Xbox Live. Map Pack #3 will cost gamers 400 Microsoft points ($5).

PS3 firmware now v1.81
The v1.81 PlayStation 3 firmware update was released today and fixes a minor RGB issue. The issue arose when gamers who connected their PS3s to their TV with a HDMI cable set the picture quality to "full." Sometimes the picture would revert back to a "limited" setting, and the latest firmware will fix this glitch. PlayStation Network operations director Eric Lempel explained the update on the official PlayStation Blog, where he added that, "we are continually evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility too."

Microsoft makes less updates, but once such firmware update is available you can be sure it's massive. Sony makes constant minor updates. All in all, they both add more or less the same amount of fixes if we sum them up. For me it's just a different strategy. Microsoft can longer test their firmware before the airing and Sony is giving it as soon as possible. I think both ways have their pros and cons.

uhhh, if you think these updates are stupid then YOU are in fact stupid. these CONSTANT updates are improving the ps3 at a steady pace constantly improving backwards compatibility, giving us 1080p upscaling to games and standard dvds (which is awesome), and just overall balancing the system out as well as enhancing the gaming experience. ps3 is being updated monthly while 360 is updated in what seems like every 3 to 6 months, in the end with the kind of updates sony is aiming for i would expect the ps3 to be light years ahead of what 360 will offer as a console and multimedia center.

Dude, on regular broadband from roadrunner, my downloads have never taken longer than ten minutes for download and complete install. This last firmware upgrade was DL and installed in less than a minute, so you might wanna check with your fios provider if you've got those issues. If I had my own x-box I might play my PS3 less. But I enjoy playing fight night online with all my friends. Motorstorm is a great racing game. And well resistance just kicks ass period. I have yet to play virtua fighter but that's next on my list. But from what I've seen from my neighbors xboox, I just wont waste my money on a machine that could possibly die on me. It reminds me of the dreamcast with all the freezing and **** it does. But what's this about resident evil 5 going M$ exclusive? First I've heard of it. Links please???????

All these downloads for ps3, what a joke. They should have waited until the console was ready. It doesn't seem like it is. I don't have a ps3 yet and after everything i'm hearing, I probably won't. Console has too many downloads, bad online service, no games available, and on top of that, its the most expensive machine out there. Does anybody other than me wonder why people are so committed to a console that at this point (sorry to be blutn) SUCKS.. What a joke the ps3 is and I really feel bad for people who bought it when it came out, being prmised so many things that won't, haven't and can't happen. I only play 360 and even all the games that come out for both systems are consistanly better on the 360....

I agree with Bozco even though he made PS3 gamers look like a bunch of morons. Ok the Playstation 3 has alot more in it that the 360 in the long run it was built to last and yes at this point I agree it is worthless it has 2 good games for it but It is a new system. I bought mine just like I bought my 360 in advance so I had it when the big hitters come out. I am a Sony fanboy but I am also a 360 fanboy both councils have something the other doesn’t. I am waiting on killswitch, Heavenly sword, Lair, Warhawk I'm in beta now, the Agency, Ratchet and Clank, and a few others there are going to be games just not until September.

bozco-mkd you try to come down the middle, but we can all see you are a sony fan boy!

dont be mad you bought an over sized forman grill, and that your waiting on something thats not going to happen. no the ps3 will not be big, yes the 360 is better, and yes the wii will win the war (not next gen. for the wii isnt).

truth told, we havent seen much from the ps3,but i have a feeling it wont make me buy one until a price drop.

Sony are doing good people need to just chill and give them a chance . my update does not take 45 mins it only takes about 15 anyway why does the speed of an update mean its a better console . They are both amazing machines.............As for Resident evil 5 exclusive to 360 I doubt it but it dont bother me . At the end of the day both consoles will have exclusives you people need to just let the games get released first , dont 4 get xbox had a big head start . and the normal xbox was scrapped due to nobody buying the games no more as for ps2 people still buy many games for it so it would be pointless to scrap it and loose all that money........................
All this comparing is doing my head in aint people got nothing else to critisise?
Come on guys us gamers were once 1 what happened....................

Is it true that Resident Evil 5 is now exclusive to the 360?? I read that in a game magazine and also a friend of mine confirmed it as well. Its amazing how the tides turn. It used to be all Sony. Now microsoft is literally taking a crap on sony. I kinda had a feeling it would happen eventually. I mean, microsoft has boku bucks compared to sony. They basically threw the original xbox out on the market to test themselves and now that they experienced the gaming industry, they are taking it over. I have both the ps3 and 360 and with all honesty, I love my 360 a lot more. I havent played my ps3 in 2 months. There are no good games out for it and when they come out multiplatform, they have so far been better on 360 and I have xbox live so I play with all my friends. I'm tired of constantly downloading patches for this thing. I have FIOS and they take forever to download. 360 downloads an update in 10 seconds opposed to the ps3's 45 minutes. I guess time will only tell who is the victor, but sky's are calling for 360 thus far

One side wants to be the only one. One side is mental. Ughh dughh! Were better off with only one machine lol
    Their fed in the head!

Just like some f heads use to think the world would of been better. With only people with Blond Hair and blue eyes in it. Kinda the same messed up mental attitudes.

The 360 and ps3 may have errors (and i would know, unfortunately), but i really havent heard of any problems with wii yet. mine works flawlessly and i got it on launch day, meaning the batch that usually have the errors.

The only reason the games use 20% of the power is because they developers are not making games that use all the power. Those will come in a few years... it is pretty much the same with 360 - the games out for 360 are not using all of it's power. The PS3 will come out on the top of the ladder in the next years or so because of the blu-ray disc. 360 will have troubles fitting games on the HD-DVD while the same games will fit perfectly on a blu-ray. The PS3 doesn't have any problems with the console itself, the only problem would be games that have been ported badly from 360.

    Quote of riku-ansem:
"Thats funny how people say Sony can't make a game for there life well if that is true how come every time Sony makes a new console it is always on the top of Xbox and Nintendo maybe not at first but after 2 years it usually beats out the contenders. Also I don't remember very many good games for the 360 when it first came out. Just remember Playstation has always been better and will always be better." To be fair, Sony has retained a dominence in the console market until now. The PS3 has many more problems than any other console by far. For example a quote of another article was that games only use 20% of what the PS3 can do. So... what is the point of making a game for the most powerful console available and then not using the full raw strength of that console? I doubt the PS3 will come out on top of this console war, I'd be prepared to bet on it. All launches for all consoles lack good games, so a Xbox fan who complains the PS3 had this problem has, although a point, didn't recognise that the Xbox had the same problem. Its not lacking good games, more of a libary of games. And that last quote you made "Just remember Playstation has always been better and will always be better." was a pointless point to argue. Playstation will never be better. Thats my response to you. Back up your points with evidence, and I shall do the same.

long enough?...how long is long enough?
making a good game can be anywhere between 2-4 years, that's assuming there's good dev kits from Sony (which they admittedly said they're lacking in that area) . And if the company decides to optimize the hardware themselves like most jap games developers it will take even longer. after 2-3 years after its release, ps3's power will eat xflop1.5 alive

Why do people always assume any game that goes to 360 was PAID FOR by Microsoft?

Any even half competent executive just needs to look at console sold to decide its worth putting the games on the 360, the Wii may be viable but only if you don't mind downscaling the graphics and turning the whole thing into a party game compilation.

With 3 times as many 360 solds as PS3 its not rocket science.

If you honestly look for a website called SONYPROTECTIONGROUP.com for your unbiased videogame news, I don't know what to tell you. That's stupid on a universal scale.

The reason it keeps getting exclusives is a combination of paying for them and having the system more people own. If the PS3 were popular, then then 360 wouldn't get as many exclusives.

As for not making any good games, other than a couple 2nd parties they own, Sony couldn't make a game to save their life.

LONELY prince...wow lol wat a name

actually SONY PROTECTION GROUP isn't biased. It's a website that tells all the pros and cons to the PS3. Even by doing that the CONS of the PS3 are still better than the PROS of the 360. So have fun with ur xbox...the first one only sold 23 million. The reason why XBOX 360 keeps buying exclusives is because they can't make any good ones themselves. I cant wait until the 360 dies out. Which is soon. Thats why the ELITE came out a year after the 360...HAHAHAHAHA 360 = waste of money
