360 hard drive, black accessories launch in Oz

120GB hard drive to retail for A$229.95 ($190) in Australia; black wireless controller, play and charge kit also released.

The black Xbox 360 Elite still hasn't been dated for launch in Australia, but Microsoft has gone ahead and made some of the accessories for the upgraded console already available down under. The black wireless Xbox 360 controller will retail for A$79.95, while the black play and charge kit (which comes bundled with a controller) will sell for A$109.95.

The company has also finally bought the upgraded hard drive for the console to Australia. The 120GB drive will set gamers back A$229.95.

It makes no since to say the PS3 is too exspensive but pay more than the cost of the PS3 to upgrade your 360. You really don't have a choice because you are going to want the best gaming experience possible, and when you have the money you will pay to get it(Microsoft knows you will). The only reason they released a cheaper version of the 360 was to jump out on sales. Now they have the elite and pretty soon it's going to turn into the system that it needs to be to compete with the longevity of PS3.

Sweet news! I wanna buy that Elite system, but I am currently saving up for a very powerful PC (but not exactly the very top-range, just the cheaper parts, & then overclocked like crazy!), so the X360 will only have to come after that.

I am also thinking of whether to have a black & a white controllers, coz the white one seems kinda more friendly when playing on the PC.

I wonder if EBgames will stick to their 'swap from core/premium to elite deal' outside of america............

haha i cant belive you said "dated" HDMI, if you actually knew what you were talking about, you would understand that fact that HDMI is the most top of the line way of viewing HD signals, there is no better way than to use HDMI. Not only its the only way to get TRUE 1080p resolution, but you get even sharper 1080i and 720p (if your tv doesnt support 1080p)...besides the elite is gettin the cooler processor in the fall and they have a 120Gb drive...I dont really think you know what your talking about, dont get me worng , i have a premium...im going to wait till the new processors come out to get an elite, and I relly think the only reason you should get an elite is if you have a 1080p tv and/or download a lot of stuff from XBL like me...so sorry buddy, elite > premium

The Elite sucks!!!!!!!!! A total rip off!! Stick to the Premium. It's just as good (and better). The Elite has nothing a true gamer wants. Who the hell wants a dated HDMI port?? And I can always buy another HDD if need be. MS thinks they're performing a sneak attack by releasing the Elite. But they are O so wrong... very wrong.

It's too expensive HERE, never mind in Australia. Microsoft makes me sick with their money first, customers later attitude.

Seriously too expensive. The Australian dollar is almost equal to the Canadian dollar. Today, one Canadian dollar equals 94 cents US. The US economy is getting weaker. It won't be long before the Canadian dollar is equal to the US dollar like in the '70s.

Dang, that sounds really expensive, they should make it cheaper if they want more people to buy it.

I think it's more about trying to recover some of their loss from developing and selling the XBOX 360 at such a low price. Try spec-ing out a PC that can play todays games and see how much that'll cost ya. Sure the hard drive might be cheaper on a PC but a good motherboard and CPU alone will cost as much as the entire ELITE package.

That or you can buy a 120 gb harddrive for 30 bucks...

  • JaMeS4418

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 7:52 am GMT

are they selling a larger hard drive separate from the elite pacakage?

  • SolidSnake35

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 7:37 am GMT

I don't really see the point of such a huge hard drive, considering the price anyway. Microsoft should have fixed the hardware flaws of the regular 360 instead, and called that the Elite.

  • Pedro7_2000

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 7:28 am GMT

It seems the demand for the Elite in the US is still high with no supply. I know I'm still looking for one.

holy crap thats alot for a HDD its like the wireless modem addon costing over $100, hope the price goes down before they release the other seaons of RvB

  • Richyrich316

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 6:26 am GMT

All well & good saying they are making a huge mark up someone has already posted that they can get a 2.5 120gb HDD for £75 but remember that these HDD's have to be put into the casings that are made specifically for 360 & other parts like the connectors that connect it to the console & the fact that MS have to pay 3rd party factories to make & package them add tax & vat in most countries add the retailers cut of the profits.....

If they release this in UK for around £90-£100 its not that bad considering a puny 20gb is £70 at the moment

  • samdonni

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 5:41 am GMT

Well, its a 360, with a bigger Hard Drive! WOW!

You may as well buy a Normal 360 and then buy a Hard Drive.

  • StevenJWeir

When are they gonna tell us when the Elite is coming to Europe? My first console was banned and I am waiting to buy an elite for GTA4. If the Elite isn't announced soon to the release of GTA4, I am affraid MS will lose the cash as I will go buy a PS3 bundle with GTA4 instead.

thats a good price if i buy one in from usa coz it only cost me £80 which means it no more than the 20g at the moment

That's bloody expensive. I got a 500gb hard drive for my computer for less than that one.

  • wakko19991

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 4:31 am GMT

that price is rediculous... i bought a 120 gb laptop drive last yr for about $80. the manufacturing costs t oget that drive into that ms casing cannot possibly bring that drive to close to $200. crazy. i love xbox and all, but this is just nuts

  • spacemonkey

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 4:13 am GMT

That price is insane!!!! Here is a WD 120gig 2.5" drive for you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136007
guess what... It's only $75 and that is after the mark up, so I'm sure Microsoft is getting them much much cheaper. That's a 250% mark up!!!!

I would want to see the 120 GB hard drive make it to the UK.

  • PXieter

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 3:15 am GMT

Remember that this is a small 2.5 laptop hard drive. Those are not as cheap as a normal 3.5 drive. But its still way too expensive.

  • judge__judy

$80 is the same price as the white ones in aus.

What a rip off for a controller which is a different colour and that much for a 120gb hard drive! Sure hope they come down in price soon!

  • lhardwick692

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 2:34 am GMT

i think that much for a hard drive is totally ridiculous--wen you can goo out hard drives way cheaper that this--its just the way for microsoft to make more money at 100 percent profit--nothing less than that--this is where the selling the console at a loss and making up the money on the accessories/peripherals--but these companies for get--if they sold this item for little over half price--they would sell alot more--other that that they probably wont sale as many and be at a loss in revenue when they go adding up their sales for the month--i will just stick with my 20 gig drive thanks

  • Richyrich316

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 2:16 am GMT

These are the prices in Australian Dollars not US Gamestop sort it out.

As for comparing the costs & saying PS3 is cheaper yeah it is if you actually want all the extra's without having a choice the 360 on its own as a games console is still a cheaper option

  • GrimBee

    Posted Jun 1, 2007 2:01 am GMT

I wish the elite was quieter. I sold my last xbox 360 due to the fact that I thought soon enough that they would release a nicer 360 (different colours) and a quieter one, which would then reduce the sale price of my original 360...

However, its just a black 360, with a bigger hd and hdmi...
I think it needs to get itself to be quieter, its the loudest thing ever!

I think the best workaround for this is to just spray it black, because an extra 100gb and hdmi seems hardly worth the bother. Especially when most countries don't have downloadable films and things.

I hoped that they would release a quieter one... heres hoping for a much quieter 360 in a miriad of colours by christmas!!

Seems strange announcing accessories but no console isn't it usually the other way round? Also the prices seems expensive.

$80 for a Black Controller, why charge a premium for a Black controller? The white one is $60

asking A$230 is ridiculous. thats about £96, and i hopefully dont think that anyone will be fooled into buying a 120Gb when they can get a 400Gb drive on the Inet for £80

  • AncientDozer

Yeah. As much as I love the internet. . don't believe anything that isn't an official or credible site. Chances are it's someone lying or pushing an agenda.

demn. i asked my cousin to buy me a 360 elite in the US and just today i'v been seeing all these 3RL issues and disk reading issues and all broken down 360s all over and they hav not fixed it for the Elite... i can see them on youtube and they pop out a lot in google. this sucks

Just remember, ekisom, while there might be a problem out there, you're more likely to hear about the 1 in 10 that doesn't work than the 9 out of 10 that do work - especially on the internet (and I just made those figures up, not sure what the numbers really are)
