PSP upgraded to 3.50

Sony's PlayStation Portable gets a firmware update to enable remote PS3 viewing.

Last week, PlayStation 3 firmware 1.80 was released, which enabled a variety of extra features for the console, including adding the Remote Play ability--anyone with a PSP could then access his or her PS3 over the Internet.

Now the 3.50 firmware update for the PSP updates the handheld to be Remote Play ready as well. Owners of both gaming machines won't be able to access DVD or Blu-ray movies or play PS3 games from their handhelds, but they will be able to access music, other videos, pictures, and their friends lists.

Firmware update 3.50 also adds an RSS channel guide for PSP owners who use their portables to receive news and other RSS feeds. More details can be found on the official PlayStation Portable Web site.

    I freak'n luv my PSP, but Sony needs to stop releasing almost cool stuff. Whats the point in remote play if I can't play PS3 games or even watch movies? Why use a Cell processor when you only have 512Mb of ram? Come on sony, I would buy a $800 console if it was 100% beast, or a $300 portable that can stream next gen games. Do or do not. There is no try.

    Cool, but one question;
    Are you able to listen your music while playing a game on a PS3 or PSP ?

    GunGriffin should have specified. Only 200 HONEST homebrew users who aren't using pirated software and games. Maybe at MAX.

    Seriously, the homebrew community is really small. Wake up call!

    Well, new updates are welcome. But i sadly don't have a ps3 because it lost like 50 exclusives.

    "Only about 200 people use Homebrew"
    Hahahahahaha!!! You are severely misinformed. There are at least 500 major people programming PSP homebrew and tens of thousands using homebrew.

    I guss you all missed the last thing GS posted about the fact that the PSP DL service comes this fall? Thats going to pout all these crapy HB users in their places when they see that without Sony's offical sotfware they can't access the PSP store. Besides the real number of HB users is no where near what HB users will tell you. Only about 200 people use Homebrew, the rest stick to offical stuff because they don't wan't to risk breaking their PSP as you aften see people post about on the Sony boards that when "downgrading" they did it wrong and busted their PSP.

    @GerrardJames

    lol Nintendogs? You are so last century. Goes to show what you know about the DS lol

    About the PSP, I wonder how many of the homebrew'ers would even bother with this. But it is nice to know you can access your PS3 over Wifi. Guess my PSP is going to have a slightly better future

    Great. Now I can access my multimedia on the go or on holiday. My uni has Wifi all over the campus and there are hotspots near my workplace. Battery life is not issue as I have a USB charger. So when it gets boring during long breaks I can just access my favourite shows. Soon PSP will have voIP also for video chat on the go. Nice! For a handheld, PSP's online functionality is second to none.

    Using Remote play and DLNA on the PS3 to PSP is simply AWESOME. I get to watch all my movies on my computer from anywhere with a wifi connection.

    Your having a joke right, your trying to tell me that a embaressing attempt at a console is better than a MP4, PS2 graphics machine which can access internet and quality graphics for a portable device? Psp IS better than a DS, which bases its sales on Nintendogs for little girls that want to waste their money down to one game. Shocking...

    you know what would be a good idea? to be able to play ps3 games on ur psp
    thats virtually possilbe if u have a fast enough connection
    the button inputs gets streamed to the ps3, and the ps3 streams the video over in real time, they can already stream video, and streaming inputs isnt a ig hassle anyways
    so for non button-intensive games, such as rpgs, i think thats totally possible

    This idea is brilliant. In theory. When I heard this I was really excited, I imediatly updated both my PS3 and my PSP only to find out!......that your PS3 has to be on and in remote play mode all the time for this to work. I don't want to leave my PS3 on all the time though so basicly...it's usless. Now if I could access my PS3 through my PSP while my PS3 was in sleep mode, it would be amazing. Other wise, I'm dissapointed. Make it happen Sony...Make it happen.

    @epilepsykid You sound jealous. Your rant is totally off topic to begin with and your information has no facts. 3 years left to live?? Where did you get that from? Did you know PSP outsold X360 last month?
    PSP - 183,000
    360 - 174,000
    Last if you don't see a difference between DVD and Blu-ray your blind. Blu-ray movies are amazing. If you have or plan on getting an HDTV and want to get the most out of it PS3 is the way to go.

    So what if the Sorry PSP has better graphics & more features than the DS. Look whos selling more systems. The PSP doesn't even have enough high quality games for it. I would give the PSP, 3 more years to live. The DS is winning the portable game market by a large margin, and even outselling the PS2 & the PS3. that is shameful. PS3 doesnt even have enough good games to back it up, and they are losing third party exclusives. Even the president of the Playstation series left because he was disgusted with the company and the whole situation. The PS3 made the PS2 look bad, and its just a matter of time that both systems will go down. As for the PSP, in the near future, people are going to use it only for movies, sad thing is there arent that many good ones worth watching. If Im going to watch movies, Im going to get myself a dvd player. What the hell is blue-ray anyways? Is it the next beta-max!? I pity for you all PS fans. I know I'll get hate responses from people but I don't have time to write back to you Sony fans. See ya!
