Sin City: The Game coming

California-based developer and publisher Red Mile nabs games licence for the gritty series of noir graphic novels.

Gaming's about to get more sinful with the announcement that a series of video games based on the Sin City comic book series is on its way. Jackass the Game developer Red Mile Entertainment has acquired the rights for an exclusive "multi-year, worldwide" licence to develop and publish games based on the series. The financial details of the transaction are not known.

The Sin City comic series was created by Frank Miller, and the first part was published in 1991 by Dark Horse. The series tells the tales of the residents of Basin City--otherwise known as Sin City--where violent crime rates are high and the police routinely wear full-body armour. A movie adaptation codirected by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, and starring Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba, was released in 2005. Filming for the sequel, Sin City 2, is due to start next month.

Red Mile's CEO, Chester Aldridge, commented on the deal, "Sin City enjoys a broad and devoted following. Its crime noir settings, richly detailed characters, hyper-real action sequences, and engaging stories provide an outstanding groundwork for video games."

i think a max payne gameplay style should be enough... the GTA formula has been used too much times

Well...Sin City as a game? Let's think about this.

The developer that made the wretched Jackass the Game has the license. There is no style of gameplay announced, which means they are probably thinking of the GTA route. If so, the game will blow horrendously. Sin City isn't set for anything like that. Even if they do build all of Sin City, it won't be able to hold up as an open-world sandbox game because you can only go so far in Basin City, and with the focus of the novels being around characters and story SOOO much...as well as visual style, it's going to be rough to make an open-world game with a strong focus in those needed categories.

So let's say they don't go the open world route. Linear level design is so trashy nowadays, it's really hard to believe it would work with Sin City either.

When it comes down to it, I just don't see how they can make this a COMPELLING game. They could make it a good game, by all means...but compelling is a different story.

sounds like somebody wants to make a cheap buck after the success of the film. it really is not suited for gameplay. adding interactivity ruins what sin city really is. what it really is i have no idea how to explain lol.

i imagine it something between max payne 2 and vampire:bloodlines. but whatever they do i hope it would be good, 'cos sin city really is suitable for a game.

I really want to see how the do the graphics. I think they should make them look like a comic book like XII tried, but way better than that.

for the most part, adapting games into movies has been dismal at best. Lets see if it can be done right in reverse. I love Sin City and the whole mythology surrounding the series, the characters, the art, the setting...i REALLY hope they dont screw this up...

The movies were a "nice" adaptation of the series, though the overall highlights were HOT girls and the cast ensemble. then again, how can this be made better into a video game? Where to get the HD advantage when there is so much dull color as part of the theme? THis is quite an interesting challenge for developers. I believe surrealism/hyper realism have a much better chance of pulling through via a game but then character emotion and definition are another story where developers like Square Enix (FF), Ubisoft and Kojima Productions have expertise. At the same time, the "comic" style reference could be acquired from studios like Sony Santa Monica or the Daxter developer... Don't really know many projects from the team mentioned. Hopefully it will be taken as a challenging project with good hopes for success.

since I'm good at being a jerk face, let it be known this idea is a little too late to have any major impact.
Not only does the comic stand alone as a good thing by itself, but the movie barely slid by as something that held people's attention besides wonderful visuals. A game is something this property doesn't need... much a less another movie if I say so myself.

Hmm Sin City the game, coming from the same developer that brought us Jackass The Game? Am I missing something here? I think it is a safe bet that many people including myself are quite skeptical about this.

What is a "Jackass the Game developer Red Mile Entertainment"???? I don't think anyone named Jackass should be developing games.

This should be promising, Loved the Film, Loved the Books I hope its in black and white with the odd colour that would rock and be a nice alternative to the recent "look at my sky it has 3000 shades of blue" games

Hawk

Ps I believe Hyper-realism is the phrase coined to descirbe not totally unrealistic acts but more acts youd only expect someone whos been training in a certain fighting style for a very very long time to be able to pull off, and even then theyre still hard to do

Well, I haven't played a game in black and white with minimal color since my Atari was hooked up to a crappy 15-inch TV back in the '80s.

oh no a lack of realism. That's against the law!!... I loved the movie. hopefully the game will be good, unlike most games made from movies. This is from the comic book though, so maybe it'll be better.

I dont understand why "hyper-real action sequences" would be in a game about a movie that is famous for its lack of realism.

I have to tell my friend about this. He loves sin City.
And I don't want it to be a GTA clone either. I want it to be different. Maybe just follow it the way the graphic novels or movies were.

They have to at least nail the amazing style down in the game. Can anyone say "cel-shading"?

The graphic novel cries out for a GTA style adaptation... hopefully they'll do it justice.
