The latest incarnation of the popular music game gets an initial tracklist; original songs by the Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Tenacious D, and Living Colour confirmed.

Hot on the heels of this week's announcement of seven more songs for the 1980s-themed Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, Activision has announced the first batch of songs for Guitar Hero III. The full list for the latest rhythm game, first revealed during an earnings call earlier in the year, is below--and contains many tracks by the original artists:

ORIGINAL RECORDINGS:
"Cult of Personality" by Living Colour
"Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones
"Cherub Rock" by Smashing Pumpkins
"Sabotage" by Beastie Boys
"The Metal" by Tenacious D
"My Name Is Jonas" by Weezer
"Knights of Cydonia" by Muse

COVER SONGS:
"Rock And Roll All Nite" as made famous by Kiss
"School's Out" as made famous by Alice Cooper
"Slow Ride" as made famous by Foghat
"Barracuda" as made famous by Heart

The company also confirmed that the game would be getting two new controllers--a Gibson Les Paul guitar model for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii consoles, and a Gibson Kramer guitar for the PlayStation 2. Both controllers will be wireless.

The new game will also get a host of new features, including a "multiplayer action-inspired battle mode," and authentic rock venues. An expanded online multiplayer mode will allow gamers to compete with other guitar heroes worldwide.

RedOctane's head of publishing, Dusty Welch, said that the team had listened to fans' requests for this edition of the game. He commented, "Many of the top bands and songs we've tried to get in the past are now on board, and we've definitely got some giant aces in the hole to say the least."

Guitar Hero III is due for release on the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii this "fall." It will be the first full-fledged entry in the series to be developed by Activision's in-house studio Neversoft--the first two Guitar Hero games were made by Harmonix.

Disturbed, Rise Against, Rolling Stones, RATM, KISS, Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, could this be the greatest tracklist made in a game? The answer- yes.

How can they call it Guitar Hero without any true "Guitar Hero"s in the game? Where's Joe Satriani? It must be a legal issue, otherwise his music and at least Steve Vai should each have AT LEAST ONE SONG each in the game...

I just checked the playable Guitar Hero 3 song list and they've added the 11 new songs that Activision just announced. I just listened to like all 60 songs; the game definitely kicks ass.

yeah your right it does need a pink floyd song... imagine playing Shine On....... metallica would be awesome too

me: Shine on would be way too long for my taistes. Though as a final boss song, it would work. Also, dogs, pigs, Another Brick in the Wall, Time, Money ect.

Also, the game needs a Doors song. Imagine playing The End, 5 to One or Break on Through.

"needs a pink floyd song...needs a pink floyd song!!!! r u kidding me how about a song from some of the greates rock bands ever with the best guitarists and solos such as metallica, anthrax, godsmack, disturbed"

Haha, what an idiot. Pink Floyd are one of the greatest bands in the world. A band that will go down in history. Metallica are good I suppose but anthrax? Godsmack?? Disturbed???? I think you are disturbed. How can you seriously compare Pink Floyd to them? Idiot.

For me, Pantera's Walk would really get my attendtion if it's in part III. Also, if they really put J-Rock in here...Then me reserving this game is more rewarding then ever.

I don't know if anyone's posted this yet, but I read on Metallica's site that One is gonna be on here. Of all the choices for Metallica songs out there, I thought we'd get stuck with something that was popular, but bland. I can't wait to tear that song up. And I'll go out on a limb and say I'm probably the first person to say they'd love to see a Nightwish track on here.

This game has by far the best Guitar Hero Soundtrack so far. There are a lot more recent bands and less awful 80s rock. A couple songs I'm looking forward to playing are 3's and 7's by Queens of the Stone Age, Paranoid by Black Sabbath, and Welcome to the Jungle (an exception to the bad 80s music, it's so catchy) . I LOVE GUITAR HERO!

Here's the site I used to listen to the Guitar Hero 3 Soundtrack

I like a lot of the songs but they are never going to be able to please everybody. they really need to have more DLC packs that focus on groups of songs like death metal, 60's, pop, soft rock, ect. and just let people buy 15 to 25 song packs that cover every genre.
