Super Smash Bros. Brawl reconfirmed for '07

NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime vows to Nintendo Summit audience that the eagerly awaited Wii title will join Super Mario Galaxy, Phantom Hourglass on this year's docket.

SEATTLE--As his colleague George Harrison gave a rosy Wii sales forecast to the financial press, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime preached the Mario Factory gospel to a captive audience--the journalists attending the Nintendo Summit in Seattle.

Much of Fils-Aime's speech tread familiar ground. Armed with sales figures from the April 2007 NPD report, which had the Wii and Nintendo DS selling 471,000 and 360,000 units, he made much sport of the fact that Sony's new PlayStation 3 console finished 2,000 units behind the four-year-old Game Boy Advance SP.

Corporate bravado aside, Fils-Aime's speech did contain some major announcements--or, more accurately, confirmations. The physically imposing executive allayed many-a-Nintendan's fear by promising that three of his company's biggest 2007 titles would indeed arrive before the stroke of midnight on December 31.

The most anticipated of the bunch was Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the forthcoming Wii fighting game. Though the game was originally slated for a 2007 release, speculation had grown in recent months that it, like many Nintendo titles, might slip past its original release date.

Fils-Aime also pledged that two other high-profile titles would arrive during 2007. The 3D platformer Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii remains a lock for the year, as does The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS. The former always had a 2007 release date, while the latter had originally been scheduled to arrive in 2006.

    everybody who complaines that it is now 2008 and we have no SSBB yet are Tacos. He made an estimate, whice was innacurate. He should have never said promise, because there is no such thing as a promise on release dates. Just look at Team fortress 2. almost 10 years to design a game that ended up being a multiplayer online only game, which IMO sucks. Brawl wont be like that. It has what so far seems to be the most comprehensive adventure mode SSB has seen yet. The plethora of characters, tied into one storyline is unprecidented, especially considering the variety of extras. Dont complain, cus delays only make things better(except for Team Fortress)

    NINTENDO LIES!!! Alot of people bought the wii JUST FOR SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!!!! And they gave it online play, but if u play against someone u dont have on friends it wont even tell them ur name, give us microphones or something come on, DONT BE LAME REGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i love the smash series, but i hate how they dig up arbitrary characters.............fox and yoshi are fine, but jigglypuff?, ice climbers and mr. game & watch? and I WILL KILL IF SONIC IS IN THERE

    I think they should make another move for Captain Falcon's up b attack. When he grabs someone, it looks like he's making out with them. That's why my friends and I call him Captain Kissyface. Even if it is funny to call him by that name, they should change his up b attack.

    Waluigi and Diddy could be cool, but I always do like the bad guys, so I'm rootin for Ridley from Metroid Prime!! I could care less about Sonic. To me, he died with the Sega Genesis. I like Solid Snake in there though. Glad to see Nintendo still has some friends in the biz.

    PS - Holy crap!! I just realized there's a spell check button right here!! A lot of people that post on this site should investigate what it is and how to use it...

    i dont think they should put sonic in ssbb because that just ruins the super smash bros history of having only nintendo characters like peach, mario, luigi, link, samus, bowser, and yoshi... and the pokemon .. fire emblem too. if they put sonic its just wrong for all intents of purposes .... and i hope they put ike in this one.

    the only character that has to be in this game is MegaMan X or the one from the cartoons how he could grab the lower arm of his opponent and use their ability. eg. he grabs link then throws him away then he can shoot out arrows or with mario he could shoot fire balls in a way like similar to kirby but he can charge up attacks like he did in the snes games. Then SSBB will be the greatest wii game EVER.

    yeah i acually heard that Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be online saw an articale that said that you can battle with your friends. So thats going to be amazing just to know that if you cant play with your friends if they arent around or w/e you can have a shot at playing different people online if your friends arent around to play this game online.

    Sonic should only be in SSBB if he replaces Jigglypuff. Jiggly's Rollout move really does belong to Sonic.

    Super Smash Brothers Melee, one of the greatest games for the Nintendo GameCube. Last year at E3 Nintendo promised us that Smash Brothers would be coming to the Wii, and here it is the first footage.

    First thing to note is the updated look for the characters, the visuals are updated from the GameCube version while keeping that great Nintendo look.

    Of course there are also new characters. We get a glimpse of 5 in the trailer recently released by Nintendo. The first being Meta Knight from the Kirby franchise. From the trailer it appears as if Meta Knight will be a fast paced character, maybe similar to Falco or Fox from SSBM. The next appearence we see is of Pit, from Kid Icarus. Samus also makes an appearence in her Zero suit sporting a weapon that resembles a lightsaber. We also get to see Wario make his debut in the Smash Bros series. The last character isn't one of Nintendo's, it is in fact Solid Snake who recieved an invitation to particpate in the Super Smash Brothers.

    Nintendo seem to have packed special moves in, Kirby cooking mario, Link unleashing a devasting sword attack crushing Mario between a two triforce and Mario letting out a electric like Kamehameha blast.

    Lets not forget the theme for Super Smash Brothers Brawl. The theme is done by legendary composor Nobuo Uematsu responsibile for the masterpieces that can be heard throught numerous Final Fantasy games.

    The Nintendog's also make an appearence and this is only the beginning. What else will Nintendo have up there sleeves. They have already promised more new characters, and an enhanced solo player mode we will have to wait and see what suprises they have in store.

    SSBM had so many unlockables, from game modes, the trophies and characters, and it had great reply value, a game that was impossible to get bored of. If this game can improve on the SSBM forumla, which from this first glimpse it appears to, then we have a instant classic coming to the Wii and a game that is sure to rule countless hours of your life.

    super smash got delayed cause they are adding 4 player(4 players at once)online.Super smash brawl will probably be the last of the smash series and will indeed have online etc.....

    I change my mind. SSBB may be online. My friends have been saying that it can be, but now that i thought about it, it can be online. It would so totally rock. I just have to fix my dumb internet! I can't get it to work!

    Yea, i really hope that SSBB is supported with online play. It would be great to fight across the country with people, face some real competition.

    actually , thinking about it. Maybe not dante (dmc) it would actually make more sence , in a style way and when you think about his game and play style of joe (viewtiful) were the capcom character.

    it would be awesome if brawl was online but i dont really see it happening. there's no doubt it will be good, but this game needs to have a lot of new characters to make it great. nobody wants to see jiggly puff or game and watch again, but mega man and sonic would be good additions to the super smash bros family.

    Everyones randomly guessing stuff for smash bros. characters and such, but no ones taken a look at the site. Look here http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music01.html
    The composers for the game. Theres people who worked on kingdom hearts, killer 7/godhand. Maybe its more likely we'll see square-enix or capcom characters appearing??

    Someone care to explain? I do know there is a new nIghts game proposed for the Wii. But why do they need nIghts music for SSBB?

    Because they have the composers that did Final Fantasy and Ape Escape. I'm sure that also means those characters will make a surprise appearance along with Bill Cosby.
