Metroid Prime 3 primed for August 20

Samus' next outing headlines Nintendo's Wii and DS release schedule for Q3 2007.

In recent years, the August release of Electronic Arts' annual Madden NFL installment has signaled the end of a slow period on the release schedule. It has also been the beginning of a gradual ramp-up in releases, culminating with a mid-November bounty of holiday launches.

However, this year could unfold differently, as Microsoft has already announced a late September arrival for Halo 3 for the Xbox 360, and Take-Two Interactive's Grand Theft Auto IV will follow in October. The gap between Madden and Halo 3 won't exactly be barren of highly anticipated releases, either. Nintendo today detailed its summer release schedule for first-party and third-party games, with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption set to arrive on the Wii August 20, less than a week after Madden NFL 08.

Nintendo gave release dates or windows for a dozen other summer Wii games, with a reiteration that Electronic Arts' Boogie will arrive in the fall. Of those, two more are first-party titles: arcade-style soccer game Mario Strikers Charged on July 30 and the action strategy sequel Battalion Wars 2 in September.

The Nintendo DS's new-release shelves will be much busier than their Wii counterparts for the summer season, as Nintendo gave release windows for 37 games on its portable. As predicted by retailers, Picross and Brain Age 2 are definitely getting North American releases. GameStop correctly pegged the Picross date as July 30, but only had the month right for Brain Age 2, which is now set for an August 20 release. As for Nintendo's other first-party DS releases, DK Jungle Climber (formerly DK: King of Swing) is set to arrive September 10, followed by Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol September 24.

[UPDATE] Gamers who might have been panicked at the omission of Rockstar Games' Manhunt 2 from the list below need not worry. A Rockstar Games representative blamed Manhunt 2's absence on a miscommunication, and has confirmed to GameSpot that the violent action-adventure game will be released in North America on July 10 for the Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.

Now I enjoy the Metroid series like crazy, and this definitely looks good. But, graphically, I feel it's about the same as Echoes. The new controller should give it a nice new feel to it though.

FINALLY! I have waited for MP3: Corruption for such a LONG TIME! I am expecting great things from Retro because of their many delays- Hopefully an extreme storyline and some delicious Multiplayer, possibly some Wi-Fi if it works well-

Metroid is always released at the same time as Halo to help neutralize it's overwhelming power, and Retro is probably one of the most highly respected companies Nintendo has kept hold of. But yeah they are still completely different games.

"Samus' next outing headlines Nintendo's Wii and DS release schedule". What's with all these people inquiring about MP3 coming out on DS? It says that the game will be the HEADLINE of the release SHEDULE for Nintendo systems. Metroid Prime 3 is not coming out for DS.

yodamendez: It's probably for some type of connectivity. Then again, maybe not. Who kows?

I'm definitely getting Super Mario Galaxy{SMG}, Metroid Prime 3{MP3}, & Super Smash Bros. Brawl{SSBB}! And here's to the best of hopes that all of you 360, &/or Ps3 owners, as well as Wii owners, can get your favorite games this year, maybe even for this Christmas, if not for any other time than the rest of this year.

are they releasing the game for both the ds and the wii?! is that a smart move?

I never played Metroid Prime 1 or 2 because I never owned a GameCube, but when I got a Wii I loved the fact that not only could I play Wii games, but I could go back and get GameCube games I never got to play. I'm definately getting Medroid Prime 3, but it's a little tough getting a hold of Metroid Prime 1 & 2 for the GameCube. I hope Nintendo doesn't abandon its GameCube games, because some of them are great and they're still playable on the Wii. Also, I hope Metroid Prime 3 allows for use of the GameCube controller. I've heard lots of bad things about controls for Call of Duty 3 and Red Steel; I'd hate for Metroid Prime 3 to suffer the same frustrating gameplay.

Bwii and mp 3 should both be great, Battalion wars suffered from no online, or multiplayer... and yet it still got 80's! now it's got em I wanna play it!

I got my Wii a few weeks back after ordering off of Air Miles. It arrived the day after I used my gift card to get a Nintendo DS!!! So far the only game I have played is Zelda, which has been relatively enjoyable. I'm looking forward to more great games and will definitely be getting Metroid Prime 3.

Metroid Prime is the game Wii needs, it's a FPS (and it's going to be a GREAT FPS.) and it has the "Nintendo style" fun. So expect high sales, even in summer.

I dont know about you guys but it seems that Metroid Prime 3 will have a graphics leap, for some sources such as GamePro and others has already played the almost final versions. I was reading the story out of the Nintendo Power book and it said the graphics will look better than Halo 2 and be way better than Mp 1 and 2.

Not a good list, Metroid Prime 3 should be good & maybe Battalion Wars 2 might be ok. But nothing on the DS here, well maybe Megaman or Heroes of Mana, but that is a big maybe. Interested if Metroid Prime 3 comes out on the DS...probably the most interesting news.

@Ghetto_ninja try these titles, Dawn of Sorrow, Mario Bros, Advance Wars, Mario Kart, Puzzle Quest, Age of Empires, Portrait of Ruin, Yoshi Island.. The DS has some good games already..

Then again we all need more and for the Wii..

that's a long list but only mp3 and some other nintendo made games that really interest me. i foresee a few more months of 3rd party developer games not selling well for the wii. i hope this will give them a wake up call to not just make games but make good quality games. drake and josh, zoey 101 ... wtf!

Does anyone else only play their Wii at parties or to play Wii Sports? Im so sick of badly done ports, i blame the developers.

  • WalterPaladines

    Posted May 22, 2007 10:18 pm PT

Man that's a lot of kiddie games with mediocre gimmick ports coming for the Wii. I'm bored from these gimmicky games they put out once the novelty of the Wii controller wears off we get stuck with last generation graphics in these garbage games.

I am gonna sell or trade my Wii for a PS3 and get Ninja Gaiden Sigma and LAIR (that awesome looking dragon game).

Very excited about this news. Even since I saw a demo trailer for MP3, I knew that I will buy this game, but I was concerned that I have to wait until 2008 since Nintendo has a reputation for delaying games. This is a game that I will definitely buy on its release date.
