Retail Radar: Lego Star Wars for Wii and PS3

CD Universe now accepting preorders for Complete Saga; Xbox 360 and DS versions also listed.

With Lego Star Wars and its sequel already having tackled toy-themed games of the original Star Wars trilogy and its prequel films, there's nothing left for the franchise to do but move on, applying the same to other popular property. Take Batman, for instance.

But as the wizened Muppet Jedi master Yoda might say, "No. There is another." At least, there might be another, if new product listings on CD Universe are accurate. The retail Web site has listings up for Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga on four platforms: PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS, each with an expected November 8 release date. The same four listings have also turned up in Wal-Mart's internal database of product codes.

Judging from the name, it doesn't take a huge leap of logic to suggest these are compilation titles that include both the original Lego Star Wars as well as last year's Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. However, of the four systems listed, only the Xbox 360 and the DS played host to versions of Lego Star Wars II, and none of them count Lego Star Wars among their libraries (although Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii can play both games through backward compatibility).

As of press time, LucasArts had not responded to a request for comment on the games.

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

I was planning to get the original game but I may hold out for the compilation now just so I can get a native current-gen version without having to play it using backward compatibility.

Im looking forward to a wii lightsaber game (as is everyone I suppose).

And I am NOT looking forward to the ds version of this game, the last one was quite terrible.. did anyone see how the millenium falcon entered the deathstar on the mission "rescue the princess" ? Its so funny! But unfortunately, its a bug..

The scene : Chewbacca constantly says "mwaaammm" or whatever he says. And at random occasions too! Whilst the ship docks with the deathstar.
Whilst docking, the ship flips upside-down, backwards and off screen as it lands...

With constany problems like that during the game, the ds version was pretty awful (imo) so I hope that they saw the success of the last game on all platforms, and get the best out of each one.

For example - the 360's graphics, achievments and xbox live features. The wii's remote control. The ps3's capacity to have all the movies on one disc And the ds' touch-screen (and hopefully a nice psp port, not a laggy one).

I hope each console gets a worthy port -- in short

Mmm... it is ironic that the Lego Star Wars games are better than the "real" based Star Wars games (note: I'm talking only about the movies)...

You can bet that if a game has anything to do with Legos or Mario, or any other cartoon for that matter, it's Nintendo bound!! Yo! Nintendo!! I'm WAY older than 10!! Give something back to your ADULT VIDEOGAMERS!!! Here's an idea...since you guys at Nintendo are the masters at creating kiddie games, why oh why haven't you spent the time to create a branch at Nintendo which concentrates specifically on games geared to people ages 17-40, you know...ADULTS!! That way the kids and grandparents can have their kiddie and geriatric games under the normal Nintendo brand, and us deprived adults, who invest ALOT of our dollars on far and few games fit for us, can enjoy a Grand Tourismo-esque racer with actual CARS instead of an F_Zero hover-crap, or a Halo-esque Metroid, not that there is anything wrong with Metroid, or even a God of War-ish Legend of Zelda!! under this new adults only brand of Nintendo made Mastery!!! Do you know how many people at Digipen feel the same way I do???

Lego Star Wars II was one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had the good fortune to play. That game had no right to be good... and yet, it was. And the first one wasn't bad, either, but lacked the polish of the second.

I'd definately buy it for the WIi. Lego Star Wars was immensly fun (despite having a cutesy charm to it, but i guess thats half of the appeal).

  • oboewan9999

    Posted May 18, 2007 4:08 pm GMT

I might buy it; i missed both I and II.

@okassar: They did that because the 360 and DS already have LSW games, the PS3 and Wii don't.

    @JoeSmith34: All of them do.

Hmmm. One question I'm not seeing asked that sticks in my mind...why are they making it a PS *3* release when both games (presuming it's a compliation of the two existing Lego SW games) are already there for PS *2*? Given that they're doing it for Wii and DS as well, I doubt it's a storage-capacity issue...

OTOH..I wonder if the 'Complete Saga' version will allow mix-and-match characters to be used in Free Play in Eps 1-3, like they are in LSW 2 (which I'm playing now...I like little Darth Bob, my Sith-Stormtrooper...now if only he could throw Thermal Detonators and wear a jetpack, he'd be perfect. :-)

does it really matter, okassar? if it had been 'xbox 360 and wii' in the title, there wouldn't ave been a snuff from you, would there?

  • Agreb91

    Posted May 18, 2007 2:33 pm GMT

I like the idea of them putting it out on the Wii and PS3, since if you didn't get a chance to play it then now you can.

This is the first time I view Gamespot to be a bit bias..."RETAIL RADAR: LEGO STAR WARS FOR WII AND PS3
CD Universe now accepting preorders for Complete Saga; Xbox 360 and DS versions also listed."Are you kidding me?Mention all the systems or none in the headline...

  • JoeSmith34

The Xbox 360 version is the best because it includes the second one on the disc, too.

  • SemiMaster

    Posted May 18, 2007 12:26 pm GMT

So having it on the original PS2, GC, Xbox and now the 360 months ago wasn't enough, gotta make it for the PS3 and Wii again?

    Man... talk about milkage

Does this mean they are remaking Lego Star Wars for DS? I already bought LSWII for DS and I own the GBA version of Lego Star Wars. Unless they update LSW for DS, I don't think I'll be getting this.

they should make more Lego style games, there are so many good stories out there like LOTR and Harry Potter, etc
these were fun and I hope they decide to continue making them, can base story on clone wars too btw

why not just re-release the first game for a low price? it doesn't treally make sense to release a game twice within so short a time, unless it'll be part of each system's discount series (player's choice, gratest hits, platinum hits). if that's the case, i'm sold.

I enjoyed Lego Star Wars II, but I don't think I really want to play through it again.

  • LProjektST

    Posted May 18, 2007 8:07 am GMT

Unless they add content to it, I dont see the use in releasing it, because all the systems can play the previous generation's versions.

    kevy619:

Prolly has something to do with the fact that of the three non-portable consoles, the PlayStation 3 comes first alphabetically. Note they also list the Wii before the higher-selling (albeit older) Xbox 360.

whats with all the ps3 love from gamespot all of a sudden? Every article/anouncement lists ps3 before any other console, and ps3 sells half as much as its closest competitor...

1)I would get this on Xbox 360 if I have the money. I am more interested in LEGO Batman, however.

    2) hey PSPZero, you offically just showed that some people don't know how to READ.

Kavadias, the developers want to make the quickest buck possible, and porting is the way to do that. What we really need is for Nintendo to court some of the indie developers and see what they could churn out for the Wii and DS, as they typically have been the ones with the newer ideas for games, rather than yet another GTA clone or a 57th sequel to a game that people loved the first couple of times around.

"PSPZero: Finally a PS3 third party game that isnt on Xbox360 XD"

So which part of the line "The retail Web site has listings up for Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga on four platforms: PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS" makes you think its not on the 360?
