Midnight Club headed for Xbox 360, PS3

Rockstar's street racer series strikes out for Los Angeles on new systems, set for release early next year.

The city of angels is about to be choked in exhaust fumes (make that "more choked in exhaust fumes"), as Rockstar Games today announced that it's working on Midnight Club: Los Angeles, the series' debut on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Set for release in early 2008, the latest Midnight Club will be developed by series studio Rockstar San Diego.

As is Rockstar's style, the company revealed next to nothing about the actual gameplay of Midnight Club: Los Angeles. However, Rockstar founder Sam Houser did say the studio was "looking to redefine the idea of a completely immersive racing game experience, both offline and online."

For more on the series, check out GameSpot's review of last year's Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix.

My first game ever was midnight club. It set the bar for all of my racing games. I would chose Midnight club 3 dub edition remix over carbon any day. Midnight club still is better than the other racing games maybe this time nfs will win. This game will be awsome, i hope it's a bit more realistic and have some style's. Also in MC you can make your car straight up gangster.

Hate the fact that it ain't comin til 2008...
But that may be good, cuz if the last one had cars that looked really good(can't sa the same 'bout the cities) and a sense of speed that just makes some cars impossible for begginners to drive, i just imagine how this one'll destroy any respect NFS still had...
Besides, i ust love the details bout Midnight Club...
I mean, how many games have pedestrians that keep starin at your car when you stop and that sort of thing?
I mean, when you tune up a ride, you do it exactly for people to look at, and midnight club have that people!
But surely, it needs some more stuff...
    Anyway...

    I'm already Waitin for it!

this is gonna be awsome..the thing about midnight club is that its not so realistic and has an awsome sense of speed, which is the perfect recipe for an excelent driving game.

People who only like midnight club and dis other racers like NFS and GT make me laugh-basically any game that requires you to use the footbrake
and have some understanding that cars do actually need to use brakes sometimes is too tough for them, so the game is too hard for them and they dis it,lol. They prefer just keeping acclerator trigger down all the time and handbraking every turn like MC because that's all they can handle.I like MC too,but I also like other games that take more skill.

This is great news, I like the way they emphasize immersion. Hopefully this will be what Test Drive: Unlimited wishes it was.

"I didn't think their were rednecks in europe and the rest of the world where NFS has been the christmas no 1 the last few years?"

Nope, thats were the "Chavs" bit comes in, the same people that buy 1000's of copies of FIFA Street.

I wonder how many copies Midnight Club sold? in comparison to NFS? I didn't think their were rednecks in europe and the rest of the world where NFS has been the christmas no 1 the last few years?

I really loved part 2 it had this Fast and the Furious feel to it that(This was before the Second movie came out killing the Fast and the Furious forever) Part 1 and part 3 really lacked. I dunno something that made part 2 so good.

Hopefully they can recapture that feeling with part 4.

Unfortunately NFS will always win out with the Chavs/Rednecks of this world, Midnight Club is for those who could actually know what a racing game should be like.

I like them both and its good to see a new MC for the next gen

  • mrjasler

    Posted May 17, 2007 7:56 pm PT

Blazzen23 , i was just commenting on the previous comment by some guy who said that the tracks in MC were great, your right, there are no tracks in MC , just streets you can race on against others etc.. the difference between MC and NFS is that MC had an environment based on the real city whereas NFS is made up and the tracks are designed to be fun whereas MC's are more for realism not fun.

mrjasler everyone has their taste when it comes to racing games. You will always get people who like the variety of tracks in NFS , the old NFS tracks with cops or open world that Midnight Club has.. The reason I think NFS is better than midnight club is that they try something different each game. Most Wanted was Daytime and Sunset.. then Carbon was at Night with addition of the canyon tracks etc.. at least they are trying something different rather than Midnight Club which just takes a city and tries to copy it.. which isn't very original. What sort of tracks does Midnight Club have anyways? they don't have proper circuits and tracks designed to race.. they have an open world with roads that are not designed for circuit racing .. so don't go saying that have great track designs.

If im not mistaken MC is based on "street racing" so the races are on the streets.....9/10 times if you pull next to someone to race your not gonna go all the way to a track and do it your gonna pull to the light and let loose thats why MC races on streets and not tracks

NFS Hot Pursuit was the closest to the original NFS formula and it was the game that in my opinion they should have kept building on. The modding things is cool but nothing beats good old cop chases.

As long as they take any hip-hop attitude of the game it should be good.

First off NFS sucks. Second off i need to get me a PS3 so i can play this game. Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix is one of my favorite racing games of all time. The crotch rockets totally owned. And if you played Midnight Club 1 and 2 they didn't even have licensed cars and customizing which is like half the fun in the 3rd one. Not to mention the great graphics and pretty sweet super powers. Oooo canyon races its like racing in a canyon totally lame gimmicky mess. NFS has terrible racing physics and blah track designs and compared to Midnight terrible graphics and thats to be expected since they pretty much stole the free roam city idea from Midnight. And oh course its set in night time its called MIDNIGHT CLUB for a reason. They aren't freaking racing in Alaska.

"looking to redefine the idea of a completely immersive racing game experience, both offline and online." how vague is that?? really did sam houser just pull that from his ass or what? seriously.. that comment oozes.. I don't really know what our game is going to do differently so I will just make some random crap that is so vague and pointless that people will just nod and go okay.. sounds good.. i'll go buy the next midnight club because i like playing the same game again in a different city. losers

    Posted May 17, 2007 12:18 am PT

terrible terrible game! what is innovative about this next game.. Los Angeles?? that's it? OMG how lame is that.. oh lets do san francisco , now LA , then some other city and there is our game, driving around a city we can drive in real life.. big deal! I do not understand what people see in this garbage of a game.. it's also set just at night-time. Dub Editions was lame as well.. the only thing innovative with that game was the fact you could ride motorbikes. At least with NFS they had canyon races, drift racing , circuit racing plus you could modify the shape of the body kits... Midnight club won't have any of that and that is just lame.
