Retail Radar: Brain Age 2 and Picross DS, new SCEA games, no MGS4 until '08?

GameStop puts up product pages for Nintendo puzzlers and seven first-party games for Sony systems, suggests a wait for anticipated Konami PS3 title.

Last week saw a flood of new game announcements, but there could be many more on the way, as the Retail Radar has spotted a slew of previously unannounced titles at the online store of retailer GameStop, including a pair of Nintendo titles for the DS and seven first-party games for Sony platforms.

On the DS, GameStop has listings up for Brain Age 2 and Picross on the Nintendo DS. After the sales success of the original Brain Age, a domestic release for the sequel was assumed, but Nintendo hasn't yet announced any details about it. GameStop currently lists the game as an August 1 release with a $19.99 price point.

Much less assured is the US release of Picross. While the Picross series of puzzle games has seen more than a dozen installments grace Nintendo systems in Japan, only the GameBoy original made it over to the US, released in 1995 as Mario's Picross. The series challenges players to use logic in filling in a grid of squares based on numerical cues that border the playfield. Filling in the puzzle properly creates simple pictures in the grid. GameStop is listing Picross for the DS with a July 30 release date for $19.99.

GameStop is also listing a full slate of Sony games, with a focus on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable releases. There appears to be only one listing for an unannounced PlayStation 3 game on the site, and that's Folklore. Not all is right with that product page, however, as the retailer claims that the game usually ships in 24 hours. The attached screenshots also depict a racing game, perhaps the least likely genre for a game called "Folklore."

On the PlayStation Portable, GameStop has listings for SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Tactical Strike (October 2), Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (September 4), and a domestic release for Pursuit Force 2 (September 25). The PlayStation 2 section of GameStop also features some eyebrow-raising preorders, including SingStar Amped (August 7 with or without microphones), Buzz! Big Quiz Mega Quiz (October 2), and Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party (October 2). While the game is popular abroad, this would be the first time Sony's Buzz! trivia series has made it to the US.

Finally, GameStop is listing the release date of Metal Gear Solid 4 as March 1, 2008. A trailer for the game had originally pegged a 2007 release date for the game, though it didn't specify for which regions.

As of press time, representatives from Konami, Nintendo, and Sony had not returned requests for comment about the listings.

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

    Where is Wipe Out Pulse?? I love that game for the PSP and with the new one having wi-fi and allowing personal MP3 to be used in game, well, that's just the frosting.

    It's no surprise to see the DS getting its requisite sequels, but I am pleased to see the PSP getting plenty of love. And I know that the PS2 isn't dead yet, but if these unannounced titles are the best we can hope for on the system, then maybe it's time to retire that console.

    I agree with you little. The textures in mgs4 aren't superb, but the game will be a Great game, because manly it looks like a action movie, which in my opinion is great. Also, GOW was pretty looking, but comparing to MGS4 it is NOT!

    Oozaru_Kakkarot , just cause the PS3 has blu-ray, doesnt mean MGS4 will be on made on-blu-ray, till now all the game make never exceeded or had the need to exceed dual-layer DVD, dont forget that 360 can well play HD media, MGS4 will never be made on a blu-ray media, simply because there is no need to!

    a damn...i had my ps3 all ready for this game to...atleast we know the more time we giving him to develope the better he might make...and no not like other people that took long to make crappy games...so dont say that BS mgs4 will come and proove its greatnest...way better than halo for sure...and gears of course cuz i have that game i guess we al jst have to wait for it atleast itll be worth the wait ....

    If metal gear solid 4 would end up on 360 it would need to occupy atleast 3 xbox 360 dvds...each holding about 8 gig when double layered unlike the drastically superior single layer of blu ray that holds 25 gig...

    360 could technicaly handle the game with less units on screen due to hardware issues and what not...

    I myself will get both 360 and ps3 aslong as the game is not multi console...

    Every multiconsole game is watered down...this is why I like my halo on xbox and my metal gear on ps...

    Dont accuse fanboys when you are a fanboy yourself....

    Offcourse ill get a wii aswell cant have annything without my zelda and mario...

    I like it all.... but you do realize that 360 is about a tenth of the ps3 hardware wise... you see I understand that and I still like 360

    My biggest problem is multi console games.....they are always toned down and weaker in content... and 2008 means more time to get the game even better....

    Solid snakes suit that blends into anny background takes more processing power than 360 can handle....this isnt turning invisible....this is actually blending in with the bckground...like a chameleon...

    Stop hating each other...each system has theyre strengths and games and I hope it stays that way...

    The charecters...the storyline..and the emotion of the metal gear series is my favorite and from what ive played and heard from gears of war is that it lacks alot in emotion and story....though i do love the multiplayer gameplay gears of war is just not metal gear....

    Damn it! I hate fanboys! MGS4 can't run on 360, MGS4 is too strong. Please, just stop it! We all know that PS3 is a good console, you don't have to say it in all the damn MGS threads. MGS4 can run on 360, Kojima said it himself. Still MGS4 doesn't even look so good graphically. I'm not impressed. Look at Gears of War. Does MGS look better than GOW? NO! And the only reason to get a PS3 is Uncharted Drake's Fortune, that game looks awesome. MGS is ok, but it's not as good as the fanboys say it is.

    mgs4 will never ever be able to be on the 360 regardsless of the demand cos kojima himself sed it. it is too big for the sh1tty dvd discs that the 360 uses. 4.7 gigs for a game that needs to use almost all of a 50 gig bluray disc?

    gellis1981 MGS4 isn't coming to 360 just cuz you want it to... you got Armored Core 4, you will get Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5. If you want MGS4, KingdomHearts3, FFXIII, FFXIII Versus, God of War 3, GranTurismo5, Ratchet And Clank Future, Singstar, Resistance, Killzone, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Lair, Heavenly Sword, or any of the other numerous goodies, you picked the wrong console bud!

    i knew this would happen... im not a fan of the ps3... but definetly a follower of the great series that MGS is. cant wait for the game... maybe i will be able to play it with a friend that owns ps3 lol

    Bummer on MGS but I think Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank and then GTA IV can pick up the slack for PS3 owners, such as myself lol, until March 1.

    mgs 4 pushed is good because the ps3 installed base will be bigger, the game will be much more polished... and that will give more breath to all the great games coming this fall and holidays on the ps3 as well as the wii

    If the date for MSG4 is pushed back, I think it would be a good move. By that time more people would have a PS3 and Sony hopefully would have cleaned up it's act leading to better sales.

    gellis1981 why is it getting ported because it got delayed that dosent mean anything. so i guess lair is getting ported no wait what about heavenly sword is that getting ported to no wait i forgot is mass effect getting ported to because all those games got delayed and there not going to other systems so dont try to use it got delayed so it its getting ported **** and why do people keep forgetting kojima not sony KOJIMA said mgs4 will stay exclusive to ps3 because porting a game would mean there would have to be more people working on it and it would cost more money then it already does. oh and lets not forget that he said when he makes a game for the wii and the 360 he wants to make a whole new game not another mgs or a port of mgs 4.

    Boy_Man07 oh no, MGS 4 just in 2008?! well, i'll have to wait! i own a PS3 so i WILL play MGS 4 and, honestly, i hope Xbox360 owners could play it too(on their Xbox360), because MGS is an excelent game. and just as Xbox360 owners want to play some of the games of the PS3(FFXIII, MGS, ...), PS3 owners(like me) want to play some of the Xbox360 games(like Gears of War, Dead Rising, ...) too. i chose to buy a PS3 because i like Sony, it has Wi-Fi, Blu-ray, ... well, because i prefer Sony's system, as some people prefer Microsoft's system. however, i think it would be great to see exclusives of 360 coming to PS3 and exclusives of PS3 coming to 360. that's my opinion.

    AvIdGaMeR444 if you only knew some of the **** that came out of your mouth you would throw up. get it straight kojima dosent care about money like that he wants to make the best game possible so him making it for more then one system would just mean more copys of the game. that has nothing to do with the game being good it just means you sold alot of copies.and like we have seen before theirs alot of good games that didnt sell a hell of alot of copies but they still sold alot some of those games were games like: okami, shadow of the colossus,ico, and beyond good and evil. so since he has already said that mgs4 is exclusive he is going to try to make one of the best experiences that a owner of a ps3 can have.

    I do agree with TTDog also, in part. Lots of sequels does look kind of desperate but I think as long a sequel breaks away and improves on the original enough, then it can be a great thing e.g Resident Evil 4.

    You know things have sunk to the lowest level possible when people start to post a list of games, aside from being childish and sad its also making the assumption that because they like those games everyone else must as well, and when they start to include sequels to games that have only just been released (or haven't been released... Killzone 3 even appeared in one list) it just smacks of desparation.

    If you feel the need to list a load of titles you just come across as insecure.

    A list full of sequels just shows a lack of originality from developers playing safe with a game that sold a few before.... where are the original titles or games wher the developer is trying something new?
    Then I might be more interested rather than just feeling pity for those who feel the need to list the reasons why they don't feel they've wasted there money on an overpriced disk player.
