Top 21 Japanese games all Nintendo
Mario Factory proves completely dominant on the latest sales charts from Media Create.
As it does every week, game-industry research firm Media Create released its chart of the most popular games in Japan. Ever since the release of the DS, a large percentage of top-20 games have been for Nintendo's handheld, thanks to the brain-training game craze in the island nation.
But ever since the Wii was released last year, Nintendo's presence on Media Create's weekly chart has risen steadily. This week, the Mario Factory achieved total dominance, occupying the top 21 slots on the chart. Four of those were Wii titles--Super Paper Mario (2nd), Wii Sports (3rd), Wii Play (5th), and Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree (7th). The rest, including top title Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, were all for the DS.

Wow, Nintendo is killin' em this go 'round. Sony's fortunes are definitely suffering in Japan right now, and it seems Microsoft has no hope of being competitive there. It's a shame for Nintendo that Japan's overall game sales are in decline right now.

@ Bench_Scientist This is NOT a top 20 chart. They mentioned that Nintendo has had a large percentage of top 20 charts in Japan since the DS launch, and now they're pointing out that OVERALL, from ALL GAMES sold in Japan, the top 21 are Nintendo's. Understood or do I have to spell it out?
Anyway, that's very impressive, given that most Wii heavy-weights aren't even out yet. Although Japanese gamers are a bit quirky (not to say weird), I believe that Nintendo will do great this gen, but something like that would NEVER happen in the US. I mean, "English Training: Have Fun Improving Your Skills "? C'mon!

Its fantastic, scary, and weird. Sony's response would be a poor and weak one if they were to mimic Nintendo's plan of getting the mainstream in the way they are. Somebody outa make a mainstream mature game, easy to play as Wii Sports/Play but a different type of setting etc. more mature stuff. I guess I could accpet that if they tried to blatantly rip them off. On the other hand I'd like to see Sony and Microsoft approach with a whle new style of games a la
Touch Generation or the Wii____ games.

@Dominant
It's just saying that they're doing so well, that they have dominated even past the best part, overkill basically. The 22nd is just so people know what it is, i know i was wondering what it was

it's really funny to me that some people always said nintendo games are for kids or how poor tase of the people who play IT just because they like something different than you or because your favorite cosole didn't sells so well or whatever. I'm kinda wonder soem people even never play those game before but think they're poor already. Well , to be honest don't you think this kind of behave is more childish?
I'm not a kid and i saw many adults who love and enjoy to play those games like my whole family or many of my friends or even my colleagues and some of them have kids and they're likd to play it together. either god of war or mario is still fun to me i can enjoy them both. If you just don't play some games and not even give it a try and judged them already just becase some people said it's stupid or for kids only so , I think you already missed some good things.

Okay...why would you throw in number 21(coincidentally a DS game) in a top 20 list...and then give mention to the 22nd (oddly enough a psp game)? If you are going to show number 21 why not just add 22 underneath it instead of writing a whole sentence explaining what the next game on the list would be?! "Why? because having 22 games on a top 20 list is just rediculous!" Just an FYI GS...there are only 20 games on a list of the "Top 20"
Something smells fishy

We're doomed, we're all doomed...
..in a good way, obviously. But with Nintendo being so dominant in Japan and super strong in the rest of the world, it looks as if the answer to the console war could be coming sooner than some thing.

Yeah! Go Nintendo. Also Rob3Nelson, Nintendo isn't just for kids. I know I can't talk because I'm only 13 but still, that's just a huge stereotype. You know, my friend's mum still plays Pokemon. Also if that's your version of hell what's your version of heaven now?

I love what Nintendo has been doing with the games industry in the last couple of years. It has really helped to breathe fresh air into a stale and repetitive industry and expand the market to new consumers. This is clearly reflected in it's hardware and software sales figures. Kudos to a company that decided to take a risk that paid off.

I am an adult of 25 and love to play these games (I even own 6 of them). You've also got to think that the majority of DS owners aren't children. I know what you said is just your opinion but I don't think I, and millions of others, agree with it at all.

No offense, but my version of Hell: playing all 21 of these games non-stop for 24 hours. While I admire the Japanese in some ways, I do not admire their taste in games. But, of course, I'm an adult. If I were 8 years old, 24 hours of these games would probably seem like Heaven.

Considering... DS is the world most famous console, it is not strange that DS is filling more than half of ranking all the time. DS is in the level that should not compare to the other consoles sales.

I'm not sure what kind of gamer I would be right now without the DS. I guess I'd just play MMORPGs all the time. The DS has a ton of great titles. Once a month or so I'll pick up something cool for 360/Wii/PS2 and play for a week or two, then go right back to the DS. It rules!

This just proves Nintendo is Japan's Company, Microsoft is American's Company, and Sony is becoming nobody's company.

This is no surpise for Japan. The Wii is a hit there like DDR there. They've never liked Microsoft and Sony is getting too pricey and American for them. But still, Nintendo's a great company.
