Simpsons confirmed for PS3, 360, Wii

After a brief tease, the Fox cartoon-inspired game is finally announced at party celebrating the show's 400th episode; DS, PSP, and PS2 versions also planned.

The Simpsons are coming, the Simpsons are coming! Specifically, to the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 2, the Wii, the DS, and the PlayStation Portable this fall. After a brief tease, Electronic Arts has announced the ambitious new action game based on the long-running Fox comedy, which will be the publisher's first since it acquired the license.

It's not the first Simpsons game, by any stretch. Numerous titles have been based on the franchise, starting with The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants, and also including The Simpsons Hit and Run, Krusty's Super Fun House, and The Simpsons Road Rage.

The latest game, which currently bears a working title of The Simpsons, will sport 16 levels. Each will take the form of an episode of the series, with a unique title animation, setting, and story. Within each episode, players will take control of two family members or play one of them with a friend in a split-screen two-player mode.

Early on, the dysfunctional Simpsons family--Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa, and Maggie--realise that they are trapped in a video game and decide that they might as well use the opportunity to give themselves special powers. For instance, Bart can become Bartman, and Homer can transform into the Homerball. According to EA, the game makes fun of the video game industry, along with pop culture.

The Simpsons, was created by comic book writer Matt Groening, with its first episode broadcast in 1989. Since then, the show has run for 18 seasons, and a film, The Simpsons Movie, is due for release worldwide on July 27.

For more details about The Simpsons (working title), check out GameSpot's full preview.

It seems pretty strange not to have a PC version. As far as I know, is feasible to port a console game to PC, specially with EA, a major publisher, behind it...

Glad to see them sharing the love with so many different systems. I wish the PC, XBOX, and GameCube could still get some love too, but I guess that's just not economically viable anymore. I'm looking forward to this game.

The game has good potential but since it's on all systems (minus pc) I think it will... might... probably stink. oh well, we'll always have hit and run!

Luckily, us PC aren't a target-I think Hit & Run was the best for us.

From what the premise is, this could be a really good game. Anytime that part of the game is making fun of videogames, you know that the people behind it are going to care about videogames. Tthey might even make fun of the sterotype that all license based games are crap. This could be good.

Its all ways going to be the same thing with TV show games just like movie ones no real effort put into it and rushed to get out resulting in a sub par game at best

I hope this game does not suck, remember that seems to be the curse of these games based off TV shows or movies. I hope it lasts more than 10 hours. And enoslives I wish that was the story line for the new movie LOL. Peace

Ahhh, Bart vs. The Space Mutants; I remember that. It was a good game, but too hard; I could only get to the second level.

Krusty's Super Fun House was actually a pretty mediocre game, more than the pile of overdone filth EA will be handing us in a few months time.

Perhaps Homer will say "D'oh!" in this game?

The Simpsons franchise needs to roll over and die. It's been milked for more than what it's worth a hundred times over.

ugh.... I loath these "EA announcements." EA is so determine to say that the game is more superior then anything else we have experenced. Maybe it will be better then mediocer? Maybe it will be worse? Just show us what you got EA, especially with licensed games, nothing more then a simple clip will sell us on it.

Where are people seeing "This game is based on the upcoming Movie" ??? It looks like its just based on the show. Also, the movie comes out in the summer, not the fall. Anyways, I'm excited/worried for this game, since it sounds like something to play for a little bit, and the idea that it makes fun of the gaming industry sounds cool, but I worry since whenever the Simpsons make fun of the gaming industry, its doesn't do it well at all. Lets hope this goes well....

And to celebrate the Simpson's movie (coming to theaters this fall), why don't they bring the Simpson's arcade game to Xbox Live Aracade like they brought TMNT to Xbox Live Arcade?

This sounds like a very fun game. The fact that they will make fun of the video game industry makes it better. LOL, can't wait. And thank God it's not based on the movie, then it just wouldn't be that fun.
