Simpsons confirmed for PS3, 360, Wii
After a brief tease, the Fox cartoon-inspired game is finally announced at party celebrating the show's 400th episode; DS, PSP, and PS2 versions also planned.
The Simpsons are coming, the Simpsons are coming! Specifically, to the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 2, the Wii, the DS, and the PlayStation Portable this fall. After a brief tease, Electronic Arts has announced the ambitious new action game based on the long-running Fox comedy, which will be the publisher's first since it acquired the license.
It's not the first Simpsons game, by any stretch. Numerous titles have been based on the franchise, starting with The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants, and also including The Simpsons Hit and Run, Krusty's Super Fun House, and The Simpsons Road Rage.
The latest game, which currently bears a working title of The Simpsons, will sport 16 levels. Each will take the form of an episode of the series, with a unique title animation, setting, and story. Within each episode, players will take control of two family members or play one of them with a friend in a split-screen two-player mode.
Early on, the dysfunctional Simpsons family--Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa, and Maggie--realise that they are trapped in a video game and decide that they might as well use the opportunity to give themselves special powers. For instance, Bart can become Bartman, and Homer can transform into the Homerball. According to EA, the game makes fun of the video game industry, along with pop culture.
The Simpsons, was created by comic book writer Matt Groening, with its first episode broadcast in 1989. Since then, the show has run for 18 seasons, and a film, The Simpsons Movie, is due for release worldwide on July 27.
