PSP PaRappa confirmed for North America

Sony bringing portable version of original PlayStation rhythm game with new four-player mode, downloadable remixes.

While Paper Mario is perhaps the best-known dimensionally challenged mascot, he wasn't the first. Designed by New York artist Rodney Greenblat, PaRappa the Rapper debuted on the original PlayStation in 1997 and is set to celebrate his 10th anniversary with a return to the spotlight.

Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced that the PlayStation Portable edition of the paper-thin puppy's premier game will find its way to North American retailers this July. PaRappa the Rapper on the PSP will feature the original PlayStation game, along with a handful of new tweaks and features. Notable additions include a four-player rap battle mode and eight downloadable remixed versions of the original game's songs.

PaRappa the Rapper is rated E for Everyone. For more on the game's source material, check out GameSpot's review of the 1997 original.

I'm looking forward to having the chance to play this game that I missed on its original release because I didn't own a PlayStation.

This is one of those games that I missed the first time around. It looked like it was too much fun, but I didn't have a PlayStation so I was left out. I'm glad to see that I'll get a second crack at this classic.

Great game and a great milestone for the music genre. I wish it was coming out for the DS, especially since it would be a better fit, but we all know that would be impossible. I'm glad Parappa's getting some attention again.

errrr. its not enough. psp keeps coming out with these old school remakes which is great but they aren't worth the price tag. it seems no one wants to make portable games anymore

Nice; I really liked Jammer Lammy, but I never got a chance to play PaRappa. I hope the PSP doesn't lag while playing the game; that would mess things up a lot.
