Carcassonne dated for 360s

Previously announced Xbox Live Arcade strategy game from Sierra Online gets June release window.

Back in August of last year, Microsoft unveiled a trio of Xbox Live Arcade games based on board games from across the Atlantic. During the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, the publisher announced that Setllers of Catan (now just Catan), Carcassonne, and Alhambra would be coming to its game download service. All three have yet to be made available, but over the weekend, one was given a release window.

Sierra Online has announced that gamers will have a chance to do some strategizing in Carcassonne this June. The company did not give any further specifics on the exact date or price of the game.

Carcassonne, named after a French city famous for its high city walls, is a tile-based game that sees players placing plots of terrain on a large board. Only certain tiles can be placed adjacent to others, forming cities, roads, and fields. Sierra Online has not gone into details about the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Too bad that Microsoft has already proved that a month's date doesnt' mean it will come out that month (apparently double dragon was preped for March.) Still it's great to see some european board games on Live, those will get instant buys from me. Though I hope they do imperial (that's a nasty game).

Talisman would be awesome. Best part for developer/publisher is that each expansion could be a separate purchase. City, Dungeon, TimeScape could all be add-ons. It is a cool game--add online play and it would be Suuuhhhweeeeeet.

This is a really fun little boardgame, so hopefully it will feature a variety of multiplayer and single player options to keep the fun. More boardgames on 360!

Both Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan are great board games, and I've been looking forward to their release since they were announced. Catan is supposed to be coming out any week now, and it seems Carcassonne won't be too far behind. XBLA is really picking up some steam.

I wonder how close to the board games these will be...

Carcassone and Catan are great games. Both are light in complexity, but reward you well for playing strategically.

Did Sierra Online ever get around to offering up a patch for Assault Heroes? If so, then maybe they will win back some support from the marketplace crowd before they keep selling us broken games.

I just tried this game out last Friday. I miraculously won due to clever placement of farmers... It was kind of weird, because I felt dejected about how poorly I was doing for most of the game.

A Board style game? Reminds me of a board-style game I once played on the PC called Full Metal Planete (spelled as is--it was European in origin), where you played on a gameboard of varied hexagonal spaced trying to mine a planet with your spaceship equipped with tanks, harvesters, etc. Being designed for up to four players, I think this game would make an interesting Live Arcade game as well.

Carcassonne (the article title misspelled it, BTW) is a very fun game. There's several layers of strategy to it but also a fair amount of luck, and the game strikes a good balance between the two. It's also very easy to pick up and play for a strategy game. The actual board game is only $18 so hopefully the Live Arcade version will be cheap enough to justify a purchase. Should be fun to play online.
