Tiger driven to Tiburon

EA confirms long-running golf franchise will now be handled by Florida studio responsible for Madden, NCAA Football series.

Golfers love the sunny climes of Florida, and apparently golf game developers do as well. An Electronic Arts representative has confirmed reports in the Orlando Sentinel stating that EA's Tiburon studio in Orlando, Florida, is the new home for development on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise.

EA Tiburon is best known for developing EA's top-selling Madden NFL series along with another annual off-season juggernaut, the NCAA Football games. The Tiger Woods titles were previously developed out of EA's headquarters in Redwood City, California.

An EA rep told GameSpot that the move was made to "further establish Tiburon as an EA Sports hub" and centralize the company's sports games. With EA Canada serving as the home of the NBA Live, MVP Baseball, and NHL games, just about every game made under the EA Sports brand is now developed in just two of the publishing giant's studios.

The next edition of Tiger Woods PGA Tour has not yet been formally announced. Stay tuned to GameSpot for more news on the annual golf game.

Where was the old development home of Tiger Woods PGA Tour? And what happened to those developers?

I remember when...you all are holdin on to the past TOO hard...i remember when microsoft didn't have a console...so does that mean anything now...um no...remember this...its my personal qoute a fav too...
"inspire innovation instead of proclaiming failure! "

oh yea and to those who say collaboration slows the ability innovate..take a look at apple...great ideas come first...it takes an army of great minds to make dreams reality...in EA's pusuit of uniforimty in sports gaming they are not only becoming larger, they are allowing the consumer to easily transition for genre to genre...lower the learning curve while making games increasingly more complex and responsive. before long the EA ginat will be releasing sports packages...
for instance...imganine if you will the fall sports series...TIGER 08, FIFA 08, NBA LIVE 08 bundled togther one blueray disc, with a common UI to all three games allowing the user to choose which game to play from the start menu? Hope ur listening EA, b/c a 120 fall sports pachage would be awesome. i am an 360 owner, but this kind of innovation is why sony demanded blueray in gaming...50 gigs...multiple game son one disc.

Wow so many games at so few studios... No wonder why nothing really innovative makes it into those games anymore.

Which means Tiger Woods 2007 will be that LAST Tiger game from EA that had ANY fresh ideas, even though there werent that many. Thanks EA for putting my game on the same level as that garbage football game you keep putting out every year called Madden NFL. ---This just in... In Tiger Woods 2008, players will be able to control the trees branches with the left analog stick while holding down the L1 and R2 and clicking the R3 button. This will bring an unprecidented level of realism to the Tiger Woods universe that has never been fully utilized in a game before--- I should be paid for that!!!

we need microsoft to bring its golf games to consoles. they have always been great golf games with good graphics and great gameplay. tiger woods needs to be shaken up a bit by haveing other golf games out on the market. that might wake them up , you think ea with rights to such a great name. would not stuff it up but year after year they get worse

I don't give a **** about golf. What I want is for EA to move Live from Canada back to the US, because if 07 is any indication, EA Canada has no ****ing clue as to what the hell they're doing. Live has been dying a slow, painful death since its last good version, back in 2004. It is time for a change, EA. Hell, if all else fails, get the team that did NBA Street to do Live. As smooth as the motion was in Homecourt, there's no way in hell that Live has any business whatsoever being as choppy as it was. Something has got to be done. If not, EA may as well let 2K have exclusivity with the NBA's license, because it will amount to the same thing...one side will have a decent hoops game (2K), and the other side will have Live 07 all over again.

    /end rant

Your all crazy whoever said madden sucks comapred to 2k football is a complete moron. 2k sports games have so many glitches in them like in last years baseball game the head coach of every team was a black guy. The menu is always complicated to navigate. Where the madden is crisp, like they actually tried to make the franchise enjoyable. And ow can they mess up a golf game. Its pretty much just swinging at a ball.

Another project taken away from EARS... one has to wonder if they're getting ready to close the EARS studio. Naturally, Maxis will stay where it is, but after Godfather, From Russia With Love, and the Simpsons this summer they may not have anything else going on.

This is going to be an absolute disaster. Tiburon has a proven track record of only trying hard when they absolutely have to (think 2004, when Madden and NCAA, under heavy pressure from 2K, kicked ass), but Tiger's another exclusive license---and Tiburon does very poorly without competition.

  • soellnerjr

    Posted Apr 11, 2007 12:30 pm GMT

There hasn't been a "good" TW golf since 2002, and now that Tiburon is taking over- I guess this game will plunge into the depth and bowels of H*LL itself. Madden's NFL is utmost garbage. Two good games EA Sports ever made was way back in the Genesis days: NHL 96 and Coach K College Basketball. Thank God for All Pro Football 2K8 coming later this fall. Maybe 2K can make a new golf game too... ohh, wait, EA put a franchise exclusive tag on the PGA too.

this have to be the worst news ever coming from ea beside the annoncement of catman. tiger wood is a great game and a game that every year get better (beside 05) but even then they tried something new madden is the same game every year i am so mad ea get a new guy and this is what he do!

  • Killagorilla27

So this means that Tiger Woods 08 and on will be the same game with different labels. Tiburon sucks hard. (Ain't what they used to be)

Shoomfall, alla alla, woobah, simmy saula, sooba. It doesn't matter who makes an EA game, it's gonna SUCK. If you got a piece of crap game, EA will put it's name on it, EA, pull it out of the toilet, that would be a better motto.

terrible move. those franchises have been going down for years. Madden sucks. I mean, it doesn't suck, but it is not good. Bring back 2k Football

Hopefully they take the franchise down the sim route. I'm tired of power-ups, -50 scoring and hitting 14 fairways a round.

Where is March Madness developed? The same studio that NBA Live is made? Just a question. The article said all of its sports franchises. By the way EA, bring back Coach K College Basketball!

Well, Tiger should be thrilled about this move, he lives in sunny Florida, so this will eliminate the need for cross-country trips to help work on the game.
