Guitar Hero III platforms confirmed?

RedOctane site lists Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 editions of next installment as fall releases before info is pulled.

After purchasing original Guitar Hero publisher RedOctane, Activision was upfront about its intentions to bring the franchise to multiple platforms, but it's been somewhat less transparent about the specifics. However, a support center listing on RedOctane's online Guitar Hero knowledgebase has clued gamers in to the company's future plans, specifying that Guitar Hero III is scheduled for a fall release on the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed the publisher would be bringing the franchise to "every significant new format" starting in 2007. More recently, an Activision representative said the company was doubling its efforts on the DS and Wii in a number of franchises, including Guitar Hero.

Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II were released on the PS2 on November 7 in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Given Activision's penchant for annualized franchises like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Call of Duty, and X-Men Legends/Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, a fall 2007 date for Guitar Hero III would not be terribly surprising.

Message boards lit up with discussion of the game this morning, and the mention of Guitar Hero III subsequently disappeared from the site. As of press time, RedOctane representatives had not returned GameSpot's request for comment.

It'd be cool to have a lot more songs, that's the only part of the game I really care about, the music; when it comes down to it, that's what the game is all about.

I hope the game comes with so many tracks, around 100 maybe. This is all wishful thinking but it'd provide huge nearly endless replay value to the game.

I want some of the newer rock in it as well as classics.

everybody always talks about what songs should be in there and al that, but you have to realize that (i love metallica btw), there is very little chance that lars would let someone put a metallica song in GH, i would love it but it would be a major surprise.....oh and Satch would be sweet, also possibly vai (i transcribed building the church i just need a modded ps2) or some dream theater...neways definitely picking up GH III no matter whats on it

GREAT¡¡¡¡, but i don't know if Wii has the...potential to GHIII,'cause ps2or3 & x360 have much more power than the Wii, now, there must be at least 2 songs of Metallica, this because we all have been waitin' for too long, just imagine rockin' out again, makes my blood burns, even if its GH'80 or GHIII,it will be great, and who cares about how the guitar will be

Nope, if a Metallica song goes on there, it has to be Master of Puppets. i wouldnt mind seeing some more progressive rock on there aswell

While Master of Puppets is a good song [I won't debate that], it's simply not fast, while it is long.

Personally, I'd reccomend Hit the Lights - it's much faster, probably doubling in BPM, and has a nice 2 minute solo at the end of the song. Or maybe if you're looking for long, tiring songs, The Four Horsemen?

Edit: And it should have DragonForce - if only for impossible solos.

I'd really like to see some Iced Earth (Burnt Offerings), Manowar (Hail and Kill? I don't have more than 50 Manowar songs D: ), and Children of Bodom in there (Follow the Reaper would be nice.)

Personally, if any song by metallica gets in it should be Master of Puppets; the song basically has everything..

one song I think GHIII should have is Metallica's Enter Sandman. okay so my 11 year old brother thinks so and I do too.

I just wonder how the DS and Cell Phone (not in this article) versions will work?

And if getting the PS2 version along with the 360 version is worth it? (Rumor is PS2 is getting GH: 80s Version and 360 and PS3 are getting GH3).

once you have the previous GH titles with guitar, i dont think you will be wanting Wii version, unless they develop cool method to rock.

I hope for the Wii version that they wouldn't use the Wii controller some people think it would work but I don't think I hope they have a controller that plugs into the GCN controller port or atleast a wireless one that plugs into the same place.

"They better have dragon force this time."
If they dare I will personally go to the RO offices and decapitate the man responsible with a rusty bread-and-butter knife. DF is probably the most shocking band to become a 'hit' since... I dunno... the last success story from the pop-music industry I guess...
But I digress - they are absolutely sh*t song-writers - closer to the kind of song-writing abilities you would expect from a local hardcore/emo band, and with similar lyric writing abilities. Their songs are just 99% wankage, and they really only know hoiw to play really fast... and that's like, it. I won't deny them that (but if you think the drummer is fast, check out Nile), but even their best player - Herman Lee - is more than a little short of some serious technical ability. Honestly, if you're looking for some reeeeal crazy difficult tracks to whack on the game, RO should try some Dream Theater or Liquid Tension Experiment - now THAT would make my day.

This franchise can be milked just as easily as Mario Party. Just release new songs, a very slightly different "guitar" and voila! You have another overrated pile of garbage that GameSpot will praise to no end...

It's a good idea, but I still think they should just stick with one of the current ones and just make more songs available via download/purchase. Maybe add some more massive stuff such as DragonForce, Symphony X, etc. Classic stuff is good too such as KISS, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Alice Cooper, etc.

wouldnt it be more logical to just add extra downloadable songs for a small fee? i dont see what kind of features theyre adding that make this worth another sequel. however, GUITAR HERO RULES

guitar hero 3 in the fall? WAY too soon, guitar hero 2 just came out to 360 and with downloadable content (aka. more songs) who needs guitar hero 3 right now? guitar hero 2 for 360 could go on for a WHILE if they really wanted it to. it kinda sucks when companies buy-out other companies for this very reason, to crank out as many as they can until they totally squeeze every bit of what makes the game interesting out and turn it in to a "new" game every 8 months until we cant stand to see it or better yet play it again. tony hawk and in my opinion need for speed fall hard in this category.
