Resident Evil 4 Wii confirmed for summer

Capcom redesigns zombie action game's control scheme to work with Nintendo's motion-sensing controller; Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles confirmed for Wii.

Like a rotting husk of an ex-person reanimated in a grotesque mockery of the laws of nature, Capcom's GameCube hit Resident Evil 4 takes its sweet time in getting places. GameSpot's Game of the Year for 2005 debuted in January of that year, and managed to make its way to the PlayStation 2 by late October. A PC port was announced in February of 2006, but it has yet to show its decaying face in North American retailers.

Now the resuscitation of the Resident Evil franchise has another destination on its journey, as Capcom today announced Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, set for release this summer. The Wii version of the game will use the system's motion-sensing controller for functions like aiming and shooting, and Capcom promises all of Resident Evil 4's original gameplay systems have been kept intact in the conversion. It will also include all of the extra content added to the PlayStation 2 version of the game.

Eventually, the Wii will get its own installment in the Resident Evil series in the form of The Umbrella Chronicles, a new chapter in the series that revisits the settings of the first three games and the Resident Evil 0 prequel. Originally revealed as an unnamed project at E3 2006, The Umbrella Chronicles will also include new locations like the stronghold of the evil Umbrella corporation itself, and according to Capcom features "lightgun-style combat with interactive pathways." The Umbrella Chronicles does not yet have a release window.

    GS say it plays best on Wii. has best controls except for computer probably the best graphics and all the content of the ps2 one so wher is the conflict?

    This RE4 has the graphics of the game cube one and has true wide screen, but has all the bonus stuff from PS2 and its been confirmed... Gamespot should update there news/polls......
    And i sure do know i will be getting it for my Wii

    Did you even read the briefing above?

    The new game will be like a series of small games it appears, conjoined as one, revisiting old locales from previous RE games and feature brand new interactivity within' those environments.

    It sounds good if you actually read the briefing...

    I did not like the RE series originally, apart from the snazzy graphics.
    This new game may or may not change this.

    Well I haven't played RE4 on gamecube, and I was about to buy it on PS2 - so now there's the eternal conflict of which system to get it on.

    Nintendo is just testing to see how people who buy re4 for the wii will react to the controls and other things that wii brings to the game.

    Sweet, im looking forward to the extra content that wasnt on the original game cube release (which I have now). I'll trade in my gc re4 for the wii one. P.S. "Built", use "th" instead of "d". That was the most annoying comment ever!

    i am a big nintendo fan and i own a wii and a ps3 recently...but this thing with old games and bla bla it's kind of frustrating...
    instead of re4 make a re2 and a re 3 remake...
    who cares for the new type of control system in the game or the content of ps2 and pc version....cmon ninty you can thing something better or everything that the wii was supposed to be is only in wii sports redsteel wario and zelda????

    re4 was good, but ders no real point to relasing it for wii... (just another way to suck money like microsoft) dey should work on 5 and make it better dan re4...
    just like pop rival swords for da wii, i bet da only thing motion sensing would probably do is move da camera.. i might not buy re4 for wii, but i might just play it. i guess we just gotta wait and see how dis turns up..

    i am nintendo person and i really hate how sony got the residental evil 4 too cuz sony is the competion of nintendo and ever i started video gaming, i started with nintendo and i will end with nintendo and watch sony u will lose this generation war then xbox360 u r ok i might get it for its graphics SONY IS TRYING TO COPY NINTENDO BITER!!!!!!!!!!

    I personally think that this will be awesome! I mean wuts better tahn shooting the infected spanish (Not trying to be racist there) with the wii mote? I mean with Resident Evil, it can't get much better than that right? Also this'll keep us busy until Umbrella Chronicles and RE5 come out.

    I feel bad for the people who rushed and bought a Wii 4-5 months ago...
    Was it because of the low price?
    Was it because of the controls?

    This console is going nowhere...They just keep re-releasing games and charge you for old generation games from NES and SNES...

    im getting it o question just for the extra ps2 content and its replay value is grreat

    it isnt as good as gettin re5 but w/e i think its still werth it for re fans and ppl with sum extra cash to burn durin the summer

    WHY ??? RE4 was the best title on the GC it is superb , why does thier need to be a wii version , If every hardware producer done this with thier aaa titles what new stuff would we get and dont try and tell me just cause of the wii controller is 'innovative' it justifys it , the brilliance of the cube version was down to the hand pad control in the first place . ANY NEW IP NINTENDO ????

    I'm a resident evil fan, I got the GC version of the game but I'm looking foward the extra content added in the PS2 one. The Wii control are a plus too.

    New content and some new chapters? THIS is something might be a worth-a-while. But in order to make a great sale, they have to add new gameplay, about 4 - 6 new chapters, slight change of storyline, and more weapons and more minigames. THAT'S something that will make a great sale.

    Not even their multi platform thing is making them recover some lost ground.

    They may be "re-releasing" it, but I'm pretty excited to blow up zombie heads with my Wii-mote. They're adding in new chapters and content into the game, so I figure it will most likely be worth buying.

    Re-release of RE4? Gimmie a break. It's a perfect version on Gamecube (better than the PS2 version, in fact), no need to re-release it unless Capcom are trying to just squeeze some more dough out of it. Oops, did I say that out loud?

    But Chronicles should be interesting...

    RE4 is the best last gen game, i'd buy it again just to support capcom, you guys complaining can go and play madden. And about RE:UC i'm not sure, if it supports at least 2players it would be fun, but solo on rail shotter isn't my cup of tea.

    Sounds like a good game for people who have not yet had a chance to pass it or play it. Plus it will be on the Wii which adds to reasons why to get it again.

    Very much a done deal. Normally I would scoff at buying two versions of any game, just because it'd be a waste of money, but eventually when I get a Wii... I think it'd be a lot of fun to have even more control over aiming than previously in RE4.

    Can't be a rail shooter if it has different interactive pathways... but I'd expect that it will be released with the light gun that they had at E3. That would be interesting.
