ECW invades SmackDown vs. Raw 2008

First details revealed for this year's WWE wrestlefest on Wii, DS, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, and PSP.

Last month, THQ told analysts in a quarterly conference call that it would be introducing its SmackDown vs. RAW series of wrestling games to the Nintendo DS, Wii, and PlayStation 3 this year. Today the publisher spilled the first details on SmackDown vs. RAW 2008, which will also appear on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox 360, combining for the company's largest cross-platform WWE release yet.

THQ also gave a glimpse of what to expect from this year's installment of the game, saying that WWE spin-off league Extreme Championship Wrestling will have a "significant" presence in the game, with a number of ECW stars, arenas, and weapons included. As for the gameplay focus, THQ said that "realism and strategy are at the forefront" with its new struggle submission system, which uses analog controls to let players dictate the amount of pressure applied to their opponents in submission holds.

SmackDown vs. RAW 2008 will also sport adjustments to features included in last year's game, with new rosters, more interactive "hotspots," a combined season and general manager mode, and revised action outside the ring and online community options.

    i tellin u that if they select wrestlers like ultimate warrior , chyna , ricky steamboat,david flair , randy savage etc the one we never played in any of smack down or smack down vs raw series so we may experience the history and what is ecw without sabu . do u agree dudes and i hope the new and legendary dx is there

    Oh man!!!! I just got the Nintendo Wii a few days ago and I am impatiently waiting for this game to come out!!!! It'll be interesting to see how they implement the game's graphics and gameplay into the Wii console! It's gonna be sooooo realistic!

    Damn how many of you saw the trailer. They must really hate Sandman everybodys beatin him up. I wonder if you choose hardcore wrestler or whatever and you have a crossbrand match if you get DQ'ed. Im sure you dont but just wondering. Season mode better be better, its always the same win the title, get traded, re-win the title and throw short storylines in between like legends tour. I hope for more storylines.

    Damn, I have to get myself a Wii for this and with ECW in it, its gonna freakin rock! I can't wait to play as Sandman or Dreamer or Sabu or even hopefully New Jack and put some people through some flamin' tables!!

    Hope you can play as loads more wrestlers including the announcers like Jim Ross & Michale Cole as they have been playable in the past + i hope they let you play as people that are only meant for season mode like Vince McMahon, Stephanie ECT, great if you could play as the ref's & select what reff you want in your match like 6 ref's to pick from (Raw 2 had that feature). better story mode & the wrestlers have sepeard story lines. also more freedom like being able to get in the crowd & walking backstage during a match, I hate when a match dosent get used on TV they take it out of the game like the Anywere Falls match (5star), Bra & Panties, 2 special referees. Add new matches for download like and Ambulance match, new create a wrestler items, new wrestlers. make this game the best of the series as far

    i just cant wait for this to come out especially the graphics and awesome gaming experience. ive got the others and they're all great but this is going to be the best and with ECW in it i cant wait!!!!!

    I played WWE:SD Vs. RAW since 2006 and I just can't get enough of it and I can't wait to put my hands on 2008 especially with some ECW
    wrestlers but I hope they'll add new items for CAW and add some
    new match types and more Backstage Brawl areas,let's just wait and see what's about this game.

    Dear GameSpot,
    I cannot wait to see how World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and THQ transform Smackdown VS Raw 2008 onto the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS Lite. I knew this year would be a year of many changes.

    i hope they have the WWE Draft again. Since they just did it last night that be sick to have all of that again id want to get some of the ECW wrestlers be cool to draft guys like CM Punk and The Sandman and everyone like that. i hope they had more backstage areas because they havent really had that many of them in past games.

    Burning tables barb wire wrapped steel chairs and kendo sticks would make my day but in order to set a table on fire you would probally have to use a finisher.

    Awesome now that ECW will be in-game..but im more hyped about the new styles of the wrestlers and the season mode..and as for ECW - more moves to add to my CAW,and more Extremist ass to kick !

    I reckon this will be the best installment in the Smackdown/Smackdown vs Raw series because of the "significant" presence of ECW stars ans other stuff. Hopefully there are less restrictions and the game is easier to function!!!!

    It's about time there was some form of an ECW presence and hopefully the CAW's on the PSP version of this one won't be as poor as they were in the 2007, after all who wants to play a CAW that can't close their hands????
