Ninja Gaiden officially slicing DS

Tecmo confirms Ryu Hayabusa's debut on Nintendo's portable will infiltrate North America in October; first screens inside.

Following a spate of rumors sparked by a fuzzy Japanese magazine scan, Tecmo has officially announced that Ninja Gaiden is coming to the Nintendo DS. Titled Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, the game will ship in North America this October, several months after Ninja Gaiden Sigma ships for the PlayStation 3.

Unlike most DS games, Dragon Sword will have players hold the handheld on its side, book-style a la Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day. Players will be able to fight off enemies by using the stylus in an "intuitive" combat system.

"The Nintendo DS will allow gamers to control Master Ninja Ryu Hayabusa slash for slash with the use of the DS stylus in a way never possible in previous iterations of the game," said Tecmo marketing manager Yoh Watanabe.

Players can also combat enemies via Ninpo spells. Magic attacks are cast using the DS's touch screen, with players using the stylus to draw characters corresponding to a particular spell.

GameSpot will have more details on Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword as they become available.

I think this is what the DS needs. A popular gaming property making use of the DS's hardware. I think it just may boost the DS morale for some people who have been skeptical.

I hope its like the days of the 80's THE NES! Man those days will always be in my head forever! But I hoping this one is maybe more innovative then the past..I would like to see a game like Red Steel being made for the Wii! Perhaps a Ninja Gaiden Tecmo?..that would be sweet! Just please don't miss it up!

Team Ninja is one of the best development houses in the industry so I have very high hopes for this game. It sounds innovative and I can't wait to try it out.

the screenshots of this game look dreadful. i love ninja gaiden, and i want a ps3 just or sigma, but i dont think this looks promising. it is supposed to be a fast paced game but with stylus controls, and drawing magic signs, it will get slowed way down. i'll cross my fingers though.

This is old...IGN had it days before Gamespot. Also Ninja Gaiden was a very good game, I actually don't mind that Itagaki is revisiting it for the portable as it's like a 5 year old with a really awesome macaroni picture showing his parents. But the one for PS3 is kind of unnecessary if you ask me. PS3 barely deserves it but I guess Tecmo wanted a quick money maker in the PS fanbase so they slapped some better visuals and gameplay elements into the Original. Frankly I think Ninja Gaiden is the best game ever made; Halo 1 is also but Ninja Gaiden has far more replay value. Keep it up Tecmo I love what you're putting out!

goodemon sure but why buy a dead console when you can get a portable that has a lot of great games coming out cough zelda cough

  • KingSigy

    Posted Apr 2, 2007 2:55 pm PT

It looks a lot like the Xbox one, making me wish that Itagaki would let his masterpiece die already

    Posted Apr 2, 2007 2:10 pm PT

Does anyone think this is gonna be made by Itagaki (sp?) or another guy like Sigma was as Itagaki seems very loyal to the 360 now.
Well it sounds kool I don't really care aslong as I get Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 soon I'll be happy with tecmo, I'd rather it was exclusive but I dont care about that either (though I'd doubt P$3 will see it soon as Itagaki has said he doesn't like it), anyway I look forward to more news on this game.

Alright. Ninja Gaiden was cool, the first time it was released but this is really getting out of hand with how many times your releasing the same game. This is getting old tecmo, make something else like a football game or whatever.

yeah but for the price of a Nintendo DS lite, you could prolly buy an xbox, and a used copy of Ninja Gaiden.

If they're taking this back to the old side-scrolling games, I don't know why you would want to hold it like a book. It just gives you less room. Hopefully they don't try to make it in a whole different perspecitive.

In fact I think I may still have the Atari Lynx somewhere. I don't remember how I did it, but I somehow had managed to convince my cousin to sell his to me a long, long time ago.

Holy Ninja Hell!! Are you telling me I'm gonna play kawaii no Busa-Chan on my dear DSLite?! Holy Smokes! Well, thank GOD bimbo Rachel is not in it...but I'm a little worried on how the game is going to play. As far as I seen it seems that it will be played with the DS like a book (like you play BrainAge). But I also see that is has some recycled monsters and bosses from the Xbox version. The thing that will pump me up is doing the Ninpo via stylus. It reminds me of doing the Spells in Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. I'm a super mega hardcore Ninja Gaiden/DOA freak/geek - so this game WILL be on my DS...no matter what.
