WBIE confirms Lego Batman

Publisher enlists Lego Star Wars developer to bring crossover of caped crusader and construction blocks to gaming.

Ever since Lego Batman keyrings were distributed to attendees at the 2006 BAFTA Video Games Awards ceremony in London last year, rumours have been circulating that a new Lego game based on the Batman franchise was in development.

The game is finally official, as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed its existence to US magazine Variety. The company said it would be fully financing and publishing the game itself, as well as handling distribution in North America.

The previous two Lego game titles, Lego Star Wars and Lego Star Wars II, have both been a resounding success, and UK-based developer TT Games (the marriage of Giant Interactive and Traveller's Tales) recently confirmed to GameSpot that it was working on "more Lego licence games."

Lego Batman will "follow a similar template" to the previous two Lego titles, according to the article, and will be coming on "multiple consoles" in 2008.

Despite being a hardcore gamer, I have always like lego star wars. This look like it will be just as good as lego star wars.

I love the sound of this. It'll be a must-buy for me unless they release it bug-ridden, or something similarly game destroying.

I'm hoping it has a similar feel to the Lego Batman mini-movie that did the rounds of the internet a few years ago. Although that was clearly based on the TV series Batman, and I suspect this will be a more generic comic version.

i am so looking forward to this game - not that i was a big fan of lego star wars - it was okay, but nothing great - i'm figuring i felt that way because i'm not too big of a SW fan - but batman is a different story. i LOVE batman! i'll be first in line for this one.

after batman, how about a lego pirates of the caribbean game? i'd totally do that.

most batman games suck! and he's my favorite! I highly doubt that making a Bartman game a lego template will make it any better! hope they prove me wrong!

Those Lego games could be a gravy train for WBIE. A marriage of two well-recognized licenses, family friendly gaming, and code that's easy to port to multiple platforms....cha-ching!

Batman's a hard character for a good game. He has no superpowers, does most of his crimesolving with his brain before he goes and kicks butt, and has some sweet vehicles he bombs around in. Here's hoping they can figure him out at least a little because that may kick off some good, slightly more serious titles featuring the Dark Knight

Oh, fantastic! Lego Star Wars is one of my faves at the moment, so I'm really looking forward to this. Plus, I don't see why we can't have cutesy kiddy Lego Batman and proper serious Batman, too...

I'm sorry but wouldn't it be better to have a game that resembles the comic book? Maybe a Crackdown look but with more fluid animation and an homage to the hardcore DC version?

This is a cheap low blow that will strike the video game industry which will cause more children-pre-adult games to be released. When this makes money we will see a flood of games haphazardly put together with licenses nobody else dares to better take advantage of.

It might seem like I'm expecting disaster but actually I want a great game to be made in the same light as Lego Star Wars. I'm only afraid that these will start a huge trend of other bad titles not by TT Games. Or worse (like jackle2071 brought up), what if we never get a good Batman game?

never played lego star wars cuz i hate star wars but i heard they were great games. so i'm psyched to see batman (which i love more than life itself) to get the treatment.

but are these games to easy or kiddie? someone know?

Very excited by this. Given that I couldn't stop playing LEGO Star Wars II for months, this could be a major disaster on my slim social life.

Bring it on! Wii or PS2, I'm happy.

I loved the Lego Star Wars games. Also Batman was my favorite superhero growing up. If this one follows along the same path as Lego Star Wars it will be a really great game. I am glade to hear Lego is going to be licencing other games as well because I see great potential in other Lego games too.
