Capcom: Dead Rising and Lost Planet stay 360 exclusive

Fans continue to rage on against the Japanese publisher; Capcom exec responds to calls to take 360 titles to the PS3.

When Capcom announced that it was taking the latest edition of its popular action game series Devil May Cry to the Xbox 360 and PC as well as the PlayStation 3, it probably wasn't expecting the "passionate" response Sony fans subsequently levelled at the company.

The fans vocalised their disapproval by posting outraged messages in the company's official forums and in the GameSpot forums, and even put up a petition online against Capcom games in light of the company's decision.

In response, Capcom's slightly surprised-sounding senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, confirmed the company's decision to take Devil May Cry 4 to the Xbox 360 and PC, and stated that although the company was "moved" by the passion that the issue had created in fans, "It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers."

In response to those comments, the fans opened a new thread, titled 'So will Dead Rising & Lost Planet ever go to the PS3?' Svensson declared that it was "a fair question" and wrote, "The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I'm bound by NDAs on these matters so I can't divulge why this is the situation."

He added that the quote he made about the company being committed to making titles available to as many consumers as possible referenced the company's strategy "going forward," and these things were not necessarily possible to make happen retroactively. He added, "You can see evidence of this [new strategy] with our previously stated Resident Evil 5 plans going to 360 and PS3 simultaneously."

    wow, capcom listened to the fans for a change, i guess that's good, i would have liked to see dead rising on a pc, but it my pc couldn't run it, but fans could have been modding the heck out of this game, til' who knows when

    This is the just a sign of the times we live in. As game consoles get more expensive, fanboyism will grow and be more vocal, due to most people only being able to afford one system.

    I think everyone needs to take a deep breath... and grow up. Everyone should stop breaking each others balls about what console you own. So what if you own a PS3 or 360 - no need to get all up in arms about it.

    some of you 360 fans need to understand the meaning of fan boy because you call people it then diss the PS3 adn cruel your way back up microsofts ass (nothing against microsoft) i mean yea i own a PS3 and prefer it but doesn't mean i hate the 360 or the people that own 1, i mean DR is an amazing game, whenever i get the chance i'm always around my mates playing on it and i do hope it comes to PS3 cuz i would never see the light of day again and my social life would be in ruins, and about the issue of DMC i've got no problem with it going to 360 and such but you 360 fans have got to admit its nice to have some exclusive games for your console, and WOOO MGS 4 and RE 5 can't wait

    Why is this a problem?? Exclusivity forces gamers to purchase specific consoles just so they can follow their favorite franchises around. Take that away and we'll be able to play what we want on the system of our CHOICE, not what the corporate execs. tell us we can play it on. So shame on Capcom for limiting those 2 titles to just the 360 (although LP is slated for PC release) but Kudos to them for moving past console exclusive titles to give EVERYONE a shot to play their amazing games. I hope Kojima is paying attention as i do not wish to dump $600 just to play MGS4

    their just doing what's good for buisness because if you think about it, DMC not being exclusive to PS3 lets them have the oppurtunity to sell to millions more instead of just 4 million. It would widely increase the popularity of the game and be thankful its not going to the wii at all.

    I will say it once and only once(anybody who knowes the economy cycle will understand me), the only reason the PS3 is so expensive is because of the rarety of the pieces they need to build units. If those specific pieces were cheap and in aboundance, the console could be selling at 250$. Its all about the money and keeping the power in controle guys.

    Sony have claimed a lot o things about consoles power in the past and that turned out to be garbage, if the things a pig to programme for then thats their own fault for pushed the specs regardless of user-friendliness.

    After the 7500+ signatures on the DMC4 petition (and there were 100's in that number that were just ripping the piss out of it and Sony fanboys as a whole) PS3 owners don't deserve to get DR or LP, hell they barely deserve to get DMC4.

    If they want LP and DR enough they should have saived their cash and bought a 360 rather than the dust magnet grilling machine Sony launched.

    well I dont see a problem in their desision. I mean even thought the ps3 has sold a million units it's still not enough to sell on todays market. I mean sony is right when they say it's the most powerful machine out there, but thats not what makes poeple buy things. It's marketing that makes the people want to buy a consle. but I'm not saying that sony is SOL just yet. I mean look how long it took the 360 to get it's gears fully in motion; almost a year. And they still havnte gotten it figured out. they have already anounced that there releasing a new 360 with more memory. Plus when you think about it the prices of the machines are about the same, with all the periferals adding the total up to about 680 smakers on the 360. So i think it was sonys fault on not offering an exclusive contract. like gta IV, wich i think was a BIG F ing mistake on sonys part. But whoever said the consele wars was over is WAY wrong. Just like the Wii sony has way too many fans that will not let it die out. Infact there is still a big chance that sony can take control of the market again and over shadow the xbox. Both of them look grim at this point, with sony losing alot of exclusives and the xbox already releasing another more powerful system. There are though still a few good sony exclusives that i am looking forward too. such as metal gear solid 4, wich btw is a ps3 exclusive and will most likley debute as an exclusive since they are too far in devlopment to downgrade every thing and doubfully will it ever see another consele since it would take too much time and money to produce another. another few are eight days, lair(wich looks really nice), L.A. noir, heavenly sword (wich is stealing from god of war but still looks really good.) and a few others. These titles as far as i can see look like they are way to advanced to be on the 360 system. Not that I hate the 360 i own one but just from what ive seen so far they look like they have too much to fit on the 360s regular 5 gb dvds, as a pose to the ps3s blue ray wich holds 50 gb. IN my opinoin these titles alone could bring the ps3 to the top again ( very slim chance though). Even though they have released a program that makes it easier to code on the ps3 it still takes alot of time. And seeing that dmc 4 was probobley in pre prodution and that they probobly were gooing to go multi platform in the first place, they just said lets make them about the same level so we dont have to go back and recode the whole damn game to make it work on the 360 or PC. I have both the 360 and ps3. in my opinion the ps3 is better ( stuff it haters) i originally was all for the 360 but for some reason the ps3 grew on me. it just felt right. Maybe you all should try it out. you know buy the consele and a good game that you may really like and try it for a few days if you dont like it return it and get your money back. no harm or foul done. other wise you shouldnt just judge a system when you really havnt tried it out ( other wise that just makes you a hypacrite like i used to be ). so take the advice from a football playing geek like me and try out both systems before you judge them. if you wanna ask me somthing or wanna send me hate mail my gamespot tag is alijandroscompy and my emails is alijandroscompy@aol.com. this was my like first review ( i know im a noob to posting) and hope u liked it peace . lol MXO

    Ha finally sony fan boys get what they deserve. Have you ever noticed whenever a company makes sony consumers mad they usually post petitions, riot, kill... oh sorry that was only the ps3 launch, and post unlimited threads from too many sources? Yeah and do you see microsoft or nintendo fans doing this? Somthing has happened since the ps3 launched sony fans didn't used to be this bad... I think they know their console is the underdog so they will fight any fight they get to make their console shine a bit more. A little advice sony fans it AINT WORKING your just making yourselves look bad. Sony get your fans under control!... or atleast go out of buisness so final fantasy moves to the 360.

    Talk about insult upon injury, Capcom is even releasing Lost Planet on the PC! I think this is furter evidence that PS3's architecture is simply too complex and convoluted for most developers to spend "exclusive" time working with. Sony's original plan was obviously to be the market's dominant platform and overshadow 360/Vista with its superior architecture, but it backfired because of delays in producing the technology. Now PS3 gamers will be settling for multi-platform titles that never truly take advantage of the Cell's srengths. Sounds like the last round of the console wars except the roles are reversed.

    Ha! PS3 falls again! The PS3 honestly really suxors. The PS3 and the Wii would kick the PS3's arse anyday! Dead Rising on the Wii would be sooo fricken awesome. But on the other hand, the 360 does need some excellent exclusive titles like Dead Rising and Lost Planet.

    YES!!! No Dead Rising and Lost Planet for PS3!!! Sony aint gettin S##t. I love this. Even their top third party developers are doubting them. Oh boy is it good to own a 360. I have all 3 nex gen systems but I'm thinking of trading in my wii and ps3 to buy more 360's. I'll leave one at my girls house, my parents house and my apartment. 360 everywhere!!! I cannot begin to tell you all the excitement and joy of the possibility of Sony failing to deliver. LOL Sony boys, the joke is on you all now. The PS3 has NO GOOD GAMES!!! Sound familiar??? 360 got great games and Xbox Live which by the way is cheaper paying for a subscription opposed to paying $30 each Blu Ray movie I buy. LOL PS3 sux.

    geez people...the plan for titles on multiple platforms is slated for future games, and not one that works retroactively...and as such games like Dead Rising and Lost Planet, games already released, won't be rereleased for the PS3, if you really want to scold Capcom for hypocrasy then you'll have to see if they release exclusives for any consoles in the future...

    Capcom was paid alot of money by microsoft to keep Lost Planet and Dead Rising exclusive but i dont think it really matters my brother has Dead Rising and Lost planet and i didnt really care much for them but as far as Devil May Cry goes its not like i have a choice i will still get it unless it gets a low rating like Devil May Cry 2

    Fans "even put up a petition online"? Emma, sweetie, darling ... fans do that when they change the color of their favorite character's shoes. Fans overreact constantly, it's their nature to start (meaningless) online petitions, scream for boycots on message boards, rend their garments and tear out their hair to one-up each other in their devotion to whatever. But unless it translates into sales (and there's no telling that until DMC4 actually hits shelves) it MEANS NOTHING. The petition is a non-story, Capcom bothering to post on their boards is the only news here.

    Just follow the money. It's just a matter of it being more profitable (heck it might be the only way to be profitable) to go multi-platform with rising development costs. The PS3 has some huge muscle behind it, but it costs companies an arm and a leg to take advantage of it all. Honestly, I'd bet 10 bucks that within this generation 90% of games are multi-platform, only in-house stuff will be single platform.

    CONSPIRACY THEORY: Microsoft wants sony's really awesome stuff. Capcom is being totally bribed by microsoft big time. They spew all this crap about wanting more people to play their games when they start going multi on all the playstation games, and then get all mysterious when the topic of bringing one of their great 360 games to multi comes up. BULLcrap. I honestly am happy for the 360 people who get to play all the awesome PS3 stuff, and am personally no that interested in dead rising or lost planet. My best friend would do anything to have dead rising on PS3, but I'm cool without. I am a 100% content PS3 owner. It is just painfully clear that Capcom is full of hypocracy and overall bullcrap.

    This is all about fairness everybody wants to play a game or another...and more it only depends on what you wanna buy, i could've bought me a 360, i chose not to! i had a xbox and i didn't like it, so i sold to my cousin, he sleeps with the damn thing....what everyone wants is to experience every possible thing, so i think it's quite reasonable that capcom and other game companies that have turned games that were sony exclusive to multiplatform do the same thing with games that are exclusive to other consoles...

    Im confused. CAPCOM stated that this new strategy was to make these games available to almost everyone. It seems the 360 is getting all the benefits. I own a 360, but Im also picking up a PS3 sometime this year. Most of the exclusives I planned on buying for the PS3 are now available for the 360. In all fairness LOST PLANET and DEAD RISING should go to the PS3 to balance this situation. Its a fair trade in all honesty. DEVIL MAY CRY 4 and ASSASSINS CREED for LP and DR. I just think that CAPCOM doesnt believe the PS3 is good enough market to sell their games because the 360 already has a year of buyers whereas the PS3 is just getting started. Its mainly money here.

    Not true--it doesn't suck, and here's why:

    The key issue is that DR and LP are BRAND NEW IPs! Any gamer that's been active since first-gen is very familiar with the complaint of "Where are the NEW games?" By promoting multi-plat releases, then the "NEW new games" have a better chance of hitting critical unit-sales numbers, and are damn-near guaranteed to spawn sequels.

    There are plenty of cool game concepts from the last-gen wars that floundered as a result of selling fewer units--specifically by being "bound" to a single console.

    As it applies to CAPCOM, it is critical that their new IPs take off, regardless of what combination of systems they are ultimately playable on. A robust catalog of games to play doesn't suck--in fact, it's beneficial to every gamer.

    So yeah they don't give a (£%%£) about the consumers only money which at the end of the day they want to make money off the products which is fair but why not just say If we make LP and DR Mulit-format then we will lose money and won't be able these kind of great games in the future.     Specious--it's more likely that the licensing agreements mandated exclusivity to the 360, rather than a "negligible market" negatively imapacting future-sales. Coupled with a first-rights-of-refusal agreement, this scenario is far more reasonable. IF there is a sundown-clause, then both titles will become available for the PS3--based on merit and actual sales.

    If anything, Take 2 has demonstrated that all licensing agreements can be renegotiated, given enough time. It's not unreasonable to imagine that DR and LP will arrive for the PS3 eventually.

    Multi-plat saves every console owner between 5 and 6 hundred bucks. The consumer wins!
