Jetpac set for takeoff on XBLA

Rare's ZX Spectrum shoot-'em-up is Refuelled and ready for worldwide release this coming Wednesday.

Microsoft has strung together four consecutive weeks of Xbox Live Arcade releases, including Alien Hominid HD, Worms, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and the software giant today confirmed it was going for five straight. Next Wednesday is now confirmed as the release date for Jetpac Refuelled, Rare's update to its 1983 arcade-style shooter for the ZX Spectrum.

Jetpac Refuelled is a remake of one of Rare's earliest efforts, with 128 levels, high-definition visuals, simultaneous multiplayer action, and the Xbox 360 standard achievements and leaderboards. Players will also have the option of playing the original Jetpac instead of the remake.

Jetpac Refuelled is set for a worldwide release this Wednesday at 2 a.m. PDT. The game is rated E for Everyone and will sell for 400 Microsoft Points ($5).

I'll probably give this one a miss. Not too keen but I guess somehow I'll eventually come and play the trial.

i dont know about jetpack so much, but yea an rpg wouldnt kill em. I'd love to see one of the old DragonQuest/Warrior games on XBLA. But please not another reiteration of FF 1. That game has been rereleased more than any game EVER.

The Catan interview on IGN a couple weeks back said "middle to end of March", so that's apparently not going to happen. Not that I'm terribly surprised.

I really like Nintendo's Virtual Console and Microsoft's Live! Arcade. (I haven't yet tried Sony's PlayStation Network downloads.) The chance to play games I missed out on in the '90s is welcome for me.

I do wish they would release some compilations however. A pack of seven games for $20 for instance would be a great value, even if it was only available for download.

Of course, GameTap still reigns supreme as the source for old-school gaming. A huge selection at a low price, and the games are spot-on recreations of the arcade/console classics. No watered down translations there.

Come on if I wanted to play a bunch of rehashed classics I'd get Gametap with a million more games at less price then 4 XBLA DL's. Put something new out liek Catan once in awhile. Either that or up it to two releases a week one old school one new. Or one board game and one action. All these games get boring after the first 24 hours.

400 Microsoft poitns? Wow, thats a lot of poitns for this game! I Might consider it if it had a 200 MS Points price tag.

I owned a ZX Spectrum, but never owned this game.

The games coming out for Live arcade just aren't good enough. Come on Microsoft, sort it out. They should make deals with people like Atlus, Sega, SNK, Treasure etc. I want games like Radiant Silvergun and NiGHTS into Dreams. Paperboy and most of the other junk on there I wouldn't play if it was free. No way would I spend money on it.
