Devil May Cry 4 goes multiplatform

The former PlayStation 3 exclusive will now also be appearing on the Xbox 360 and PC.

It's official: Devil May Cry 4 is no longer a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The latest installment in Dante's adventures has joined the list of games that will no longer be limited to Sony's new console, which launches in the UK on Friday. Like Devil May Cry 3, the Capcom game will be released on the PC as well. It will also ship for the Xbox 360 at the same time as the PS3 version, marking the first time a DMC game has been released on a Microsoft console.

The news is in line with a growing trend--many companies are choosing to go multiplatform rather than limit profits with a single-format game. Previous titles that were once platform-exclusive include Virtua Fighter 5, Assassin's Creed, Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War, Fatal Inertia (all previously on the PS3 only), and Saints Row (previously billed as an Xbox 360 exclusive).

Capcom said in a statement that Devil May Cry 4 "will take advantage of each platform's hardware strengths." The company added that the move was made "to help enhance profits." No specific release date was given for any version of the game, which is still unrated.

    But which is better PS3 seems more nostalgic to the series
    But 360 has Gamerscore and also Chat actualy works.

    it's great that Capcom decided to award us with Devil may cry 4 on PC...I'm sure the profits will rise as well...I'm happy because my Xbox console is broken..)

    why Damn microsoft??!?! praise microsoft for having so many more exclusives than the PS3. Sony is looking like a bunch of idiots. Im glad DMC4 is going to the 360 because I own a 360. And no i don't need Blue Ray either. Poor sony...and to think...Sony trash talked to the xbox 360 so much before...now its just looking bad for them.

    I like sony, but lately theyre more about the dollar sign than they are the customers anymore. im not saying microsoft isnt about the dollar sign but at least they give us great quality and exclusives and their online is awesome.

    I still hate this, DMC4 should stay a PS3 exclusive. I mean, this game is one of the reasons WHY I bought a PS3...damn Microsoft, DAMN THEM!!!

    I look FWD to this coming on any system because it means now it branches out to all Gamers...Gamers should be happy. Though understandably fanboys are not..but that's pretty silly anyhow. Games coming out on mulitiple systems is a sign that gaming tactics are changing. For the greater Good.

    Depends where you get your figures rorkimaru; 11millions 360's in 18 months gives 611,000 per month, 3.5million PS3's in 6 months gives 583,000 per month so its still behind. And the only place where the 360 is being outsold is Japan, no suprise, but then the PS3 isn't really selling there either, its all DS DS DS over there. After decent launch sales in the UK the best selling PS3 game in week 3 sold under 7,000 copies so what does that say for sales.

    Your graphics logic is also a little twisted, the more powerful machine won't need to go through all the same processes as an older machine to produce better graphics so to say the disk size is to blame for all the shorter games is garbage at best, fanboy blindness at worst.

    I feel the biggest problem with the PS3 sales is the sucess of PS2, lots of developers say its hard to work with, ther are 50million+ PS2's being used that they can programme for easily compare to 3.5million PS3's, its a no brainer as to what they are going to make most cash out of. Sonythemselves don't appear to be pushing the PS3 too hard, if they were they'd have forced God of War 2 onto the PS3 to boost sales.

    The only problem with the giant blu-ray disks is that the games are all becoming multi-format. Because there are less exclusives games are much shorter. Case sample: Tomb Raider

    tomb raider legend was multi format. i finished it in under two hours. it was a very short game with big graphics on all consoles. including the "next gen" X-Box. by looking at early videos and press releases it is clear that much of the game was junked. Prime suspect? disk space. they couldnt have the only so called next gen game be much shorter so they shortened them all. back up case: Tomb raider anniversary tomb raider anniversary promises 16 hours of game-play, it is not being released for X-box. this game uses the same engine. the ps2 and 360 use the same disks. the ps2 is much older and has worse graphics so they take up less disk space therefore more room for the game. the X-box 360 is a cancer on next gen gaming forcing games to be shortened so they can reach more players

    the xbox has more units sold than the ps3. true however if you take the time the no sold and devide by the time available, the only true way of measuring, the ps3 is outselling the 360. do you want to know what other console is selling day for day more units ie no. sold yesterday or today. ill tell you. the ps2. yes i am a sony fan boy and i accept that. i also acknowalage that my method of calculating sales shows the wii outselling the ps3 or x-box 2 to 1. still sony rocks and the 360 should be banned

    Could have swore he said consoles strengths, the sixaxis looks to be a bunch of RSI law suits waiting to happen and using it makes you look like you're "special" , Blu-ray is irrelevant at the moment, the only reason disks are turning up with 20+Gb of data is they are putting all three versions (US, JAP and EUROPE) on each disk to save a little on production costs or duplicating data to make access a little quicker.

    As for Blu-Ray in general sony don't have a great track record at sucessfully introducing new video formats in the past, can anyone say Betamax or UMD? Both bombed.

    Sony have made a load of claims about how powerful the PS3 is yet nothing has turned up to prove any of it, even RFOM and Motorstorm, which Sony pushed to the max, don't look any better than first gen 360 stuff, and Sony promised Toy Story quality graphics on PS2 and they never appeared. This time round they used the phrase "4D Graphics" pre-launch.... can't see that happening.

    Xbox 360: windows live messenger and xbox live
    PC: DX10 graphics and larger hard drive space

    If MSG4 moves... PS3 will be even less worthy of a spot in my house. Seriously, Sony is going to die if they can't hold on to their exclusives. 360's popularity and PS3's opposite have Sony paying the price.

    What are you talking about? Microsoft doesn't even make computers. M$ and the 360 have the only exclusive that REALLY matters, the MAIN reason why I bought a 360........HALO 3, now the 360 has a very solid lineup and the future seems even brighter. Sony needs to be careful in navigating this gaming generation

    Hahaha it's cause the PS3 sucks so bad on the market. It's seeling less than the Wii. It's a wise decision to be multiplatform since there is way less PS3s in the US than 360s and Wiis, imagine how much money Capcom would lose for going with PS3 only. I mean come on Halo 2, a last gen game, is making more than the PS3. Stop crying you nerds be glad you have videogames to play.

    Cry me a river. Exclusives isn't good for anything. All games should be available for all platforms. That way you could simply pick the console that appealed to you more, rather than having to buy three, simply to be able to play all the games.

    Furthermore, if you "love" a particular console, and get into a fit of nerdrage regarding a game going multi-platform, seek help ASAP.
    Or never mind, it'd be too late.

    This is sad news, Sony better have an ace up there sleeve for the PSN and hold onto MGS4 which i believe they will as i read that Kojima said he was having a tough time fixing it onto PS3 which makes me think it wont be that great if it does get onto 360, and if you do enjoy it and its on 360 you will probably want the rest of the story from the ps1 and ps2 games meaning you buy a ps3 or ps2 to play them and maybe a PSP if you wanna play the ops and ac!id series. On the bright side we know that you can occasionally play as Dante on DMC4 and not just Nero

    "JamesSoprano " You might as well just keep your thoughts to yourself. Again, the games you mentioned for Nintendo and Microsoft are first party exclusives. DMC was NOT a mascot of Playstation. Rachet and Clank are and so is Kratos. Those are all Sony made games. DMC is Capcom. Capcom doesnt only make games for the Sony brand you know. Also when are you all going to learn? Developers dont care about Sony fans, they dont care about Microsoft or Nintendo fans neither. All they care about is how much money goes in their pockets. They are doing this because they know they are going to make a killing selling it on the 360. Look at what Ki"""""', the MGS developer all of a sudden said. He said' he loves the Gears of War and he is very interested in the 360". Why you ask? Because he see's that Gears of War already sold 3 million plus units. So he figures he can do it. He never cared about Xbox because the PS2 sold so well. So what do you know, he see's how well the 360 is selling a1nd now he is creating a 360 game. He is full of crap if you ask me. Jumpin on the M$ bandwagon now that he see's its the top console right now. I was never a big fan of the MGS series anyway. I know call me crazy. I just never really had the time to get into a complicated game like that but I will this time around when it comes out for 360. PS3 better come around because I will be pissed if I spent all that money for nothing but a couple games. Even the Wii isnt impressing me at all. The 360 is my system of choice right now and probably for a long time. I get tired of playing the wii. It has no good games neither. I'll give them both another 6 months otherwise ebay is looking good.

    i think it sucks that DMC4 is going multi platform .. sony has MGS and DMC microsoft has Gears Of War and Halo ..... just like Nintendo has Mario and Link ... i think they should have kept it like that ... that's what made the game consoles so unique in my view everyone has their own character... i would be more comfortable playing PS3 DMC4 instead of on 360 ... and one other thing i think the decesion is dumb .. for the people who hate Sony ( I Love Sony ) and do not have a PS2 then they have no idea what they are missing in previous games ... so all of a sudden they release DMC4 for 360 but what about 3, 2 and 1 ? they have to go back to the PS2 for that to play more of the character Dante and even tho maybe the previous games have nothing to do with this game in story line those people have not got a full taste of Dante's background by just playing DMC4.... i still not have played DMC3 so i rather wait and play that till i go out and Buy DMC4 when it hits shelves .... those are just my thought's

    I'm not for nor against whatever capcom is doing...if this is their choice then its their choice and unforunately there's nothing we can do about it except deal with it.

    Me personally, i'm not going to sit around and just try to bully on someone simply because someoen things one system is better than another...i have all three systems (wii, 360, and ps2...didn't get ps3 yet) and all of them provided fun for me on different factors and that's not bad. I think DMC4 is a welcomed addition to the 360 lineup much like its a great edition to the ps3 lineup the fact that we are so much in a uproar over this is just plain pointless if you asked me; you can't blame capcom for trying to make money...like i said in one of my comments a day back anyone can be loyal...i mean hell insomiac is loyal to their masters but when it comes to being capitolist that's what capcom is doing and there's nothing wrong with that i think the whoplaa to all of this just need to stop cause we can all share our 2 cents to this but its not going to change capcom's answer to the changes they make.

    but lets be real...sony has become a conglomerate of lies and contradiction, they have said one thing then bully the competition the next if something good goes on the other side of the trenches...they have yet proved to me the theory of the "emotion engine" they been so talking about since day one. And on top of that with their smug ways and their expensive way of programming you can't help but to understand why most third parties are taking the next step go multi platform...in the end, exclusivity is becoming very much obsolete and the more a company pushes for it...the more the third party will feel akward and go towards the latter which is multiple platforming to make money and get money back from the pre-sales. A game is a game...much like a company can make choices that is good for them and to benefit them and this is their choice i'm very much happy they made this decision. ...
    But for those who complain, its comming on the ps3 just as it's comming for the 360 so just be happy that its not a full exclusive and just get ready for "White night story" :-)

    Um no. All the games you mentioned are 1st party exclusives. These titles will never go to another console. I am just so glad this is happening because last gen all I heard from Sony boys was how the xbox had no good games. Well this time around they cant say this and "nexgenisps3" you have no clue what your talking about. All the games you mentioned are sequels to ps2 games. Some of them that have not been announced yet. 360 has exclusive titles that have never been done before and its a lot more than what Sony is offering. The games you mentioned for the ps3 are pretty m uch all the games in general. Thats why the ps3 has the new name of "Playnothing 3". There is about 12% of Sony favoring comments on this forum. Many Sony fans have turned to M$ for their gaming entertainment and who can blame them. Oh and by the way the PS3 has yet to prove its "way more powerful" than the 360.

It wasn't a killer app like Gears, but it was an awesome next gen game. Dont go talking about games that havent come out yet, if you are any type of gamer, you should know that hype usually brings dissappointment. So lets stop bashing this gens current leader in the console war. Thus far, 360 is stealing many PS3 exclusives. You all have no argument anymore until Sony pulls a miracle out their a$$. I actually bought a PS3 just for this game so I'm a little upset that this happened cuz now I shelled out $900 bucks after all was said and done. Pretty soon MGS4 and FF are going to come to 360 as well. I think next gen, Sony will join Sega in making games not systems.

You all seem to forget its all about the benjamins. Like the guy said its not as if the game is not coming out for the ps3 he's just spreading his wings to make more profit off of it. Look at ninja gaiden, from xbox to ps3 to nintendo ds. You all are like big babies. Its amazing how greedy you all get over this stuff. Stuff like this just shows how selfish mankind really are.     What about LIar, Heavenly Sword? those are new and amazing ohh ohh haha dont talk about Dead Rising, Lost Planet it's nothing even close to a Killer app

    i admit bioshock looks good but it's not 360 exclusive. go search it, it's coming to PC too
