Aqua Teen hitting virtual links

Blog says the popular animated crime-fighting value meal will star in an "extreme combat golf" game on the PS2.

From playing with Ouija boards, eating superintelligent mold, partying with Danzig, fighting crime (OK, so we've never actually seen them fight crime), to threatening national security and engaging in other hijinks, the wacked-out characters from Aqua Teen Hunger Force have practically done it all. Now it appears they will add one more thing to their lengthy list--starring in a console game.

Back in early 2005, Midway Games acquired the license to make games based on the Adult Swim lineup of programs, on which ATHF airs. Though Midway declined to say which properties would get the screen-to-game treatment, it was assumed that ATHF, as one of Adult Swim's more popular shows, was a shoo-in for a game.

Now G4 is reporting that not only will ATHF be a game, but the anthropomorphic happy meal will be... golfing. A post on G4 news blog The Feed says that ATHF creator Dave Willis confirmed that Meatwad, Frylock, and Master Shake will be starring in an "extreme combat golf" PlayStation 2 game, along with other ATHF characters such as the Mooninites and the Brownie monsters.

"It's a golf game, but it's also laced with violence," Willis tells G4. "Frylock is admitted to Jersey Pines, the very prestigious golf course in Jersey, and Shake wants to play, so he goes about ruining the course. So you actually do play golf, but you're battling the villains, and some of your clubs might have a sawed-off shotgun."

G4 says that ATHF writers Willis and Matt Maiellaro penned the game, which is "in development at Midway." The as-yet-unannounced game will reportedly ship later this year.

When asked for comment, a representative from Midway said, "We are currently working on an Aqua Teen game. The official announcement will be coming soon."

While many gamers may wonder what ATHF would be doing on a golf course, let's face the facts--it would be the most normal thing they've ever done.

G4 used to be great, back in like 2002 and 2003. Its kind of a travesty the way it has pummeted to appeal to their idea of the stereotypical male. Sometimes there is only two hours of game programming in like 14 hours. I wouldn't trust them for news, but an extreme combat golf game is porbably the most briliant game type for ATHF. If it was any other game type, It would be a stupid idea.

A movie, now a game...their really reaching (can you say "sell out"?), especially considering there isn't any real material to work from. Honestly, aside from half a happy meal talking trash, what is going on here? Nothing that's what.

You know this had all the tools to be really great. I would had liked a better title though like World of Whorecraft that would have been a great title. But a golf game is weak they might as well be making a cart racer. Now a Volley Ball game could have been fun with Meat Wad as the ball. To answer one question ATHF only fought one crime and solved mysteries in the first season. After that they concluded they could make more money collecting that government chesse.

Would be worth at least a rental. You gotta wonder what these guys can do to the prestine setting of a golf course.

    "extreme combat golf"???????????
I guess if the show is crazy then they have to come up with a crazy concept that makes absolutely no sense. But I do love some ATHF even though the show has gone down hill with the previous episodes. Please go back to being funny ATHF.

I don't have any high hopes for this game. Hopefully they will release it a price of let's say $20 to $30. I don't feel that many ppl really want this game for $50, look at how many ppl bought the Family Guy game. I have a better idea for Midway, why not make a compilation game: one disc with a variety of games, minigames, and bonuses ALL based on Adult Swim characters?? This will throughly increase their sells.

I'm not sure why you're so concerned about it being on the PS2, what kind of next-gen capabilities do you need for fast food to play golf?

Anyone who's followed [AS] long enough knows to take what they say with a pinch of skepticism... I hope this is true, because it's a unique approach to a unique property, (and let's face it, Family Guy: The Game sucked) but [AS] likes to play with their fans' minds. No confirmation from the publisher also adds to the shaky feeling I get about the validity of the story.

I never did get what was happening on "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" a strange show. This will make a great video game, even if I read the instruction manual. I'll still won't understand what the hell is going on. "Frylock" the evil looking serving of fries is my favorite character. On the other hand this game could Bomb mega. Either way it will end up in my collection.

I'd rather have Dethklok Murdercycle racing, but I'll take it. Extreme golf combat sounds sweet. A wii version is definitely in order, cuz swinging the club, using weapons, and aiming would be sweet on the wiimote.

I am a huge fan of the show(just take a look at my TV.com account). But "extreme combat golf"? Please, we are better off without it. The game is just going to ruin the reputation of the show. Maybe if they change it to a platformer or something, but "golf" doesent really work with ATHF. The game is basically going to flop.

Nappan: Yeah no kidding. The idea of an AQTF game is a bit like a Seinfeld game... it's not screaming "storyline". I completely agree. Thats why I think they went with a 'Combat Golf' theme. Usually fighting and sports games dont have that good of stories. I dont think they'll need one.

Sugreev: Frylock has the fries. He picks stuff up with them all the time in the show.
