Witcher casts a spell on US

RPG to be published by Atari in North America along with Europe.

Last September, Atari stated that it would be distributing The Witcher in Europe and Asia, but no news was given as to what its plans were stateside. Now, Atari has finally announced an agreement with CD Projekt for it to publish the action orientated role-playing PC game in North America, as well.

The Witcher casts players as Geralt, a monster slayer with supernatural abilities, in a world "rife with political intrigue, in which the lines of good and evil are blurred." The game is based on the world created by best-selling Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski in his novels. One of the boasts of the developers is that during the twists and turns of the plot, decisions made by the gamer will drastically change the outcome of the story.

The game, currently due for a Q2 European launch, will be released in North America this fall under the Games for Windows banner. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's full coverage.

I have to agree with the people that want this game to come to the 360 but... on the other hand , Big'n hard needs to keep some games exclusive to the PC, and for heavens sake... actually do some marketing for the PC games market.

Crew_SK, because the 360 is awesome, it's Microsoft, and most PC titles get ported to xbox. i.e. Doom3 and Half Life 2 on original xbox.

this is PC only.. why does everyone talk about a 360 port?

Sounds cool, but even in NWN2 you can "change the outcome of the story." Well, not "drastically", but...

If this comes out on the 360 this is great news but if not I will have to get it on the PC. So I hope it comes out on the 360.

hmmm, well lets hope atari does right by this one. NWN2 was just about the only thing last year that spiked my interest, and though it was awesome, it wasn't as friendly to users as NWN was.... lets hope it all pans out and atari rejoins the greats.

The books of Sapkovski are imo better than the ones orf Moorcock and even George R.R. Martin, maybe at the top of the best fantasy books of all time -Tolkien included, but in much senses more mature and adult-. I love the atmosphere of decay in the novels of Geralt, and the strong sense of honor, ectics and rectitude of the main character, in opposition against the sense of amusement of his best friend, Jaskier. I can't talk today about the game, but I reriouslly recommend to read the Geralt's Saga.

I think it was originally using the Neverwinter Nights (Aurora) engine. Wonder what it's like?

I've been following this title on their website for a couple of years and I'm very happy to hear that there is now a US distributor for it. I'm not as happy that the distributor is Atari, as their support for titles once they have been released has been sub-par, at best, to non-existant. What I would really like to see is English translations of the novels this game is based upon.
