Wii gets 'Hottest' DDR yet

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party to use dance mat and Wii Remote together, will allow four-player dancing.

When Dance Dance Revolution first arrived in the United States, it won critical acclaim and an audience that stretched beyond the traditional gamer market due in part to its unique dance-pad controller. When the Wii launched in the US last November, it was received with similar praise and enthusiasm from nontraditional gamers for its unique Wii Remote controller.

Konami today created an intersection between those two stories with the announcement of Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party for the Wii. Using a traditional DDR dance pad in conjunction with the Wii Remote, DDR Hottest Party requires players to match controller movements with the remote and Nunchuk attachment, as well as dance steps. The game will also support up to four players in multiple game modes and minigames.

In addition to the series' free play and workout modes, Hottest Party will challenge players to dance in synch with one another, as well as offer a new support mode and an updated battle mode. The game will also sport a new soundtrack with songs pulled from the last four decades of popular music.

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party is slated for a 2007 release. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's first impressions.

sweet. i'm just getting into ddr again and this'll be great. it'd be nice if you could add your own music via sd memory card and create your own dance routines. i'd still buy it regardless but that would make the game so much cooler, don'cha think?

So not only do you have to dance, but flail your arms wildly about with the Wiimote and Nunchuck? I seriously wonder if I know anyone that is that coordinated; most of my friends are either geeks or drunks! Guess that could make the game a lot funnier, though...

The only problem with this is that no arcade style (metal) dance pads have gamecube type ports. I don't know how anyone can stand using those cheap cloth mat pads that move around too much, aren't sensitivite at all, and if you duck them to the floor, rip to shreds. Anyone who is good at DDR knows you can't pass any 8-10 step song with a good score without quality pads.
Tell them to get in contact with Konami and offer arcade quality dance pads complete with the shock absorbers to offer any worth to home DDR gaming

Makes sense for the Wii to have the hottest dance revolution game. The Wii is known as an exercise machine of mind and body, but if the dance pads suck then we got a problem.

  • Arguyle

    Posted Feb 4, 2007 8:27 pm PT

Great idea, but i'm not sure this will be outstanding. Cool to experience... but i'll stick to the traditional dance floor. Remember that moving your hands with a wire between your controller and nunchuk is like having both hands tied. Dancing hands tied ? ... not sure about it.

sounds like a good game even tho i dont like any of the others, o, and Nintendo just does drop shipments so stores have wiis u just have to be lucky, or go to walmart when they have them in their ads like i did

i dont know why they keep worrying about games games games for the wii system--i been trying to get me a wii system but no one ever has any--so i think nintendo needs to get their arses into gear and start flushing out enough consoles to support the demand--or releasing games arent going to do any good---i am sick and tired of them saying the demand is so high--when they can make 100's of thousands of these things a day-i cant believe that the demand is so high that if 1 million is released-they are sold in a matter of seconds--if sony is pushing out 100 thousand every other day then cant see why these companies cant get caught up with the demand--i think its all publicity-and a marketing scam--to keep demand up--my refund is in by the 9th of feb--if no wii--then i wont ever ever buy one

as much as i love ddr... if you're a good enough player, you can look kinda cool an a dance pad. with hand motions, there's really no way to escape looking like a dork. it'll still be fun though.
