Spore, My Sims confirmed for DS
Electronic Arts confirms Will Wright's evolutionary game is coming to Nintendo's dual-screen handheld, as is the Wii version of The Sims.
Just under a year ago, a job listing revealed that Electronic Arts was hiring developers for a portable version of Spore, Will Wright's forthcoming evolutionary game. Though the listing was clearly for "game systems and content for SPORE Handheld title," it did not say whether it would follow The Sims 2's lead and come to both the PSP and the DS.
Today during the conference call following Electronics Arts' third-quarter earnings report, executives from the publisher finally confirmed that Spore is coming to the DS as well as the PC. Speaking to analysts, EA CFO Warren Jenson said, "[With] Spore, we will be not only focusing on the PC and online; we are launching this innovative experience on the NDS." The game will be released sometime during EA's next fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2008.
Though no further details on the DS version of Spore were disclosed, DS fans got some other good news. The Wii version of the Sims, which features a more cartoony visual style, will be ported to the dual-screen handheld. Both games will go by the moniker My Sims and will also be released sometime during EA's coming fiscal year.

Great idea, but this will be ruined by EA's uncaring developers. This will rock on PC but the handheld version will no doubt be total crap.

Looks interesting, anyway. I'm not sure about the cross platform thing going from PC to DS though. Hopefull DS Spores will not be a lame version of the PC experience like with some other games I could mention.

I hope that this doesn't end up like one of those games that we had hige expectations for, but ends up failing in the end. Like Splinter Cell DS

GTCzeero My Sims has a cartoony style? Sigh, yet another kids game for Nintendo
So Cartoony means its for kids? Well, congratulations, that's some of the stupidest logic I've ever heard.

nothing wrong with cartoony games.
People who whine about "kiddy games"? Funny how they need to grow up.

if you read the article they sound like they are trying to make a special version of it for ds, i am thinking by the sound of things it will hold true to the game, cutting back on a few things obviously but making it unique because of the nds capabilities. btw, dont compare ds to a gameboy, its like comparing an N64 to a Super Nintendo

when i bought a Sims game for GBA way-back-when, i thought it was going to be like the pc version but, you know, on the go. But it had a story I had to follow, I couldnt build a house or do what i wanted. The game was just linear. The portable version of any Will Wright's games will probaly not even come close to the customization and pwness of the original.

seems to me there is a lot of negative opinion on a hand held title for a PC game that has not even been released yet.... hmmm

could be good. by the way, in all fairness the Urbz was universally sh1t, not just on the DS.

Just the physics of the Spore creatures alone would probably be too much for the DS to handle... the dynamic skeletal analysis for movement, interaction, etc. Besides, after seeing the Urbz, I doubt EA puts a lot of commitment behinds its DS development.
Here's hoping they prove me wrong!

I remember reading in an interview with Will Wright, before the DS version of Spore was tabled (and just recently resurrected) that Will Wright himself loves the DS, and was saying that he had all kinds of plans for special DS-specific gameplay features; didn't make it sound like a watered-down version. Of course, then they said they weren't going to do it at all. Time will tell, I guess.

it's going to be great to see how they use the touch-screen to manipulate how the creatures are

Spore for the DS is doomed to suck. Look at the DS version of The Sims 2 and The Urbz.
They seriously need to make Spore for the Wii, though. COME ON WILL WRIGHT! GET YOUR FRIGGIN' ACT TOGETHER!!1!

spore for the ds there may be hope for that game after all making it only for pc means it was doomed but no console is hotter than the ds so this means ill get it and ea will find a new audience in the game market" Nintendo fan kids who like pokemon"

I'd much rather play the PC version, because I would suspect that the DS version will be watered down; however, I am happy that Spore is coming to the DS as well. Games like this one need more exposure in order to help expand gaming diversity. The DS has done this for several different and new genres, and Spore seems like an appropriate fit in the DS's eclectic roster.

Im wondering if the DS version will be a twist on the PC spore or just a very scaled down Spore. Cus there's no way all the variables from the PC version could work on the DS. Makes me think the DS version probably never leaves its planet.
